As they do live on an island, of course part of their lands border on the ocean. Obviously, it is named for the odd color of the sand. Swimming here is always an option, but be careful of the strong currents. You can't always see them from the surface, and they can pull you down before you realize it. The fish don't seem bothered by them, and they can definitely be used as prey.
