Eve (evilous) | 44 comments Okay looks like I'm the first one to start book 2. I'm beyond excited. So much has happened already. I knew they couldn't hide forever and yes did I not call it her not being able to use her power as it's a part of her she starts to become weak again. She needs to talk to Mal about this to make it clear that this is a part of her and she can't hide it. He accepts that and only wants to hide it because of their safety and the collar because it reminds him, I think, of his failure to protect her from him in the first place and let this happen.

Also why why why? Would you track it. I'd call his bluff and she was willing to have you kill her in the first book so just man up and be willing to do the same. I think if she jumped overboard (not worried what would happen to Mal if she did) then she might prove she has more power. If she dies so does his plan, and I think if she kills herself or attempts and gets close that he will see she will not be used and give her an upper hand.

Also can we talk about Genya? What a bitch. Okay oh yeah I missed you because you call me pretty and felt sorry for me and made me feel special (because you didn't know I was a lying bitch). I get it she was in a bad spot and wanted out but to sit back and let someone do this to someone you supposedly care about is bull. The Darkling treats Alina worse than the king did wanting to skin her alive and just as pervy and I'm waiting for him to do to her what the king did to Genya and then she can see what a royal bitch she is. And that turning away and letting them have a moment does not even phase me one bit. I wish they would skin her and her perfect little face, the only thing she cares about, and scars it up. I'm a bit bitter.

Oh and random question could she like clamp her hands on his head and fill it with light? Like she's the sun and he's dark would that kill him?

Oh and the new people on the crew. I think they will help, or at least I hope they will, when the time comes. I think the fox is playing it cool and about money until the right moment. A Pirates of the Caribbean moment, "Wait for the opportune moment," kind of thing. Hopefully thinking.

So I don't want to stop reading but I have more books to work on and I can't wait til tomorrow for more.

LaChelle I feel bad. I started book 2 on Friday before I knew we were going to do a group read :( Now I'm on chapter 11 and afraid to comment cuz I can't remember what has happened when LOL

Eve (evilous) | 44 comments Oh Lachelle you could just glance back and see where it ended. I can help out here they get to the point where they look over the edge of the ship to see the other amplifier. End section! So everything up to then is fair game.

Bogdana (bogdana_m) | 26 comments So this book definitely started. It's so fast paced!

I think something changed with the Darkling and I think there was a purpose for his creature biting Alina. I am not sure what, maybe he was absorbing some of her powers or becoming immune or something, but i think that was why he thanked her.

I think Sturmhold is going to end up being an ally. Maybe the boat coming their way is actually help, but even if it's not I think he will end up helping Alina.

I think that the Darkling will end up being a character i love to hate because I find myself feeling sorry for him at times. I don't want him to succeed with his plans, but I think he might have been sincere with his feelings for Alina. I think he really wanted her as his companion.

So this magical creature that Mal tracked. I have a strong feeling that Mal is not just a really good tracker. I think he must have some powers that were not yet revealed. These mythical creatures that were spotted so long ago that they become legends are being captured so fast by him; and he said that he senses them. I could be wrong, but I really think that there is more to him than we know.

I cannot wait to read further tomorrow!

Already getting hooked back in! I knew Mal and Alina couldn't hide forever but dang! I didn't think they're get caught that fast! I like Sturmhond and the pirate crew - I agree that they might be a good ally later on.

Mal had to have some sort of power - he's beyond a good tracker and I wonder if the Darkling knows things he's hiding about Mal. I wonder if Mal's or Alina's parentage will be important down the road in terms of their abilities... Or the old man who's house they lived in...

I'm torn about Genya - I hate what she did to Alina but I also think she genuinely cares about her.

The Darkling keeps saying that Alina doesn't understand everything. I wonder if he ultimately will do something good? Or change? I really don't like him but I have this place in my mind where I can't fully hate them either.

Eve (evilous) | 44 comments I agree in part with those who think the Darkling wanted the companionship he found Alina and I know her feelings for Mal messed that up in part but really his whole I'm going to collar and use you to take over the world ego plan kind of ruined it. Plus his whole idea of 'yeah you may be mad at me now but we will live forever and you'll eventually get tired of being mad' like he can just wait it out and eventually she'll decide to just be with him or something without another option. Not good and he underestimates the power of a woman scorned.

Jamie (Books and Ladders) (booksandladders) | 11 comments This is going to be all over the place, just to warn you.

I knew that Mal and Alina would be caught eventually, but I think it was stupid that it happened so quickly. Clearly there is a reason that Alina was supposed to get to that location and I wanted her to get closer before she was caught by the Darkling again. It is ridiculous that he can now make these shadow creatures even though it goes against the rules of magic that have been laid out for us.

I liked the Darkling up until these chapters. He is annoying that he wants Alina to live forever with him. I feel like I want him to have better motives than Alina being his companion and being able to rule in the Fold.

Honestly Mal is just annoying to me. It is starting to become clearer to me that Alina shouldn't be with Mal and should be with a Grisha or someone who understands her powers and realizes that she needs to be able to use them. I wasn't a huge fan of Mal in the last book. I'm not a fan of people who don't realize the good things they have in front of them until they aren't there anymore. So. There's that.

I feel like Genya is almost poorly written. Like she doesn't seem to have much depth in my opinion. She is very shallow and seems to only care about Alina because Alina is the Darkling's best chance at ruling.

Can't wait to continue reading!

Keshia (brain_candy) | 11 comments I knew that they couldn't run forever, but I thought they would put up more of a fight before getting caught. If Alina is supposed to be this powerful Grisha, why didn't she prepare herself more. I know that they didn't want to be suspicious or have anyone find out about her being the Sun Summoner, but I think if she had practiced a little bit she would be stronger and more capable right now.

Right now I'm curious what is going to happen to Mal since they found the Rusalye and what a second amplifier is going to do to Alina.

Plus, seriously Genya? You thought Alina would be all buddy buddy with you after your whole friendship was a lie? I think not.

Finally starting this a week later! So much has happened already like you are all saying. I agree about Sturmhold (spelling?). I like him and I hope his character sticks through the story. I also agree that Mal has to have magical powers. Time to keep reading!
