I think that there isn't really a choice between Edward and Jacob in the Twilight Saga. When Edward is around, there was no question that Bella wants him. Jacob is Bella's best friend, and maybe they could have been together if Edward had never come back. But I think that Bella always knows that she wants to be with Edward over Jacob. What do you guys think?

I agree...My theory is, that the feelings Bella felt for Jake, was the feelings that bound Nessie to him...
A sort of pre-pregnancy destiny between Nessie and Jake...

Me neither. She would never have chosen Jacob.

It is a love triangle. Jacob and Edward are rivals for Bella’s love. Of course Jacob never stood a chance, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less of a triangle.
At the end of 'Eclipse' Bella tells Jake that she has made her choice and do you remember how she cried her eyes out. It caused her so much pain. That's a love triangle, because she did love him; even though her heart already knew who she wanted.

So true. And funny. :D

It's just a whole bunch of mindless obsession. I'm not too concerned.

I feel like Bella loves Jacob in a different way as her best friend. She does love him. Just not like she loves Edward.
I think Bella was crying her eyes out because she couldn't see Jacob. It was hard for her to see him since Jacob was upset that she was with his natural enemy, Edward, and she was choosing to turn into a vampire. Just my thoughts. I really appriciate everyone replying to this discussion and voicing their opinions. Thanks!
Rebecca wrote: "When Edward is around, there was no question that Bella wants him."That's true... IF Edward is around. Love between two people depends on both of them, so if Edward would have chosen to stay away from Bella, she probably would have gone for Jake. One love is different from another, but that doesn't mean they're not both real! So I think it is a love triangle with three very different sides.
It's an obsession between two people with unrequited affection on the part of the third. Not a triangle in my mind, either.
I never thought it was either. I always thought of it as choosing between your boyfriend and your best friend. Kind of depressing, really.
lol it's a right triangle, with Jacob being the farthest angle. Poor boy never had a chance! Well, except when Edward kinda 'abandoned' her in the second book... but I thought it was always Edward, too. Didn't even realize it was a triangle anything until the second book, really.
I'm not sure that she could have really been truly happy with Jacob. He made her feel better when he was around, true, but I'm not sure that, had they ended up together romantically, it would have worked out. She just didn't have that kind of love for him.Even if Edward never returned, I think that Bella and Jacob would have only ever been best friends.
Jacob is Bella's best friend. He was there for her almost always . She loved him for that but not in a way she loved Edward. They could have never been a romantic couple. I feel the book had a good ending like Jake imprinting on Bella's daughter so that they all could live together happily.

Better yet, an isosceles triangle.

That's exactly how I felt when reading this series. I mean I can understand that Jacob likes Bella, and that she doesn't really like him as more than a friend back. I feel like the "love triangle" was a tiny bit forced. Because I knew right from the first book that Bella was going to choose Edward. There was no question to me who she was going to choose.
Hehe, I always thought calling it a love triangle was silly. Because all the sides of a triangle are connected, that means that at some point, Jacob would be in love with Edward, or visa versa (sorry if I spelled that wrong xD). So, theoretically, it's a love ARROW, hence that Bella is at the only point and the only way Jacob and Edward are connected is via the Bella Intersection. Otherwise, if it remains a triangle, there's a whole story we're missing! Fleeting moments in the forest, secret meetings at the border ectectetc...
OH! TOO LATE! Sssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

Even though some are missing a side it's still classified as a love triangle apparently.
@Anah! Yeah! Come to think if it, that's who I've always pictured to play Bella in my head: Nina Dobrev! I ADORE HER!!! She's absolutely AMAZING!!! I adore the Vampire Diaries show! :)
Neither Edward nor Jacob were appealing in any shape or form...
To me, it is. bella was in love with Jacob as well, and edward and jacob were rivals for each bella, so honestly it is. The way you're looking at doesn't exactly make sense, for every love triangle is such. We all know the boy/girl the person will choose.

For example, at the end of Pandemonium, I wasn't sure about who I wanted. In the Twilight series though, I didn't really see it as a "true" love triangle because I immediately felt that Edward was the one who Bella would choose.

For instance, "The Hunger Games." I think we all knew Katniss was going to end up with(SPOILER) Peeta, but it is still known as a love triangle, is it not? And how about the Matched Trilogy- we all knew (SPOILER) that Cassia was going to choose Ky, but it was still referred to as a love triangle.
Also, In twilight, (SPOILER) Bella DOES fall in love with Jacob and they DO kiss, so to me, it is a love triangle.

I don't think its a love triangle either. I think it was more about testing the limits of Edward and Bella's relationship. Jacob didn't seem like a real candidate for Bella at all.
