Gevaudan, FranceLily was walking along the forest floor of Gevaudan, making sure not to fall by lightly pressing with her foot to and fro before placing her foot down with force. There was a small incline to the hill she was, and she was worried that she might fall and scrape a knee or tear her white dress. She had so far dodged the brambles and nettle patches that were found in the forest, but there were still a few patches of dirt stains on her white dress. Oh well, not like she could see it. There was a low growl behind her and when she turned she felt the presence of a beast. She raised the silk covering her eyes and stared at where she thought it to be. The growling stopped and a small whimpering began. Lily sighed; her power only brought pain. She lowered the fabric and continued on her way. This was what she got for taking a shortcut home...

Slade stepped out of the bar he worked at with his usual scowl etched onto his face and the stench of beer surrounding him. It was late, probably somewhere around midnight and the sun had long since set leaving him standing alone on the dark sidewalk, the only light coming from several feet away where a street light was flickering. How cliche, next thing I know I'll see a shadowy figure appear under the light he thought with a roll of his hazel eyes. He was dressed in his usual attire; his legs clad in dark wash jeans, his feet encased in black combat boots and his torso wrapped in a simple black t-shirt with his usual black, leather jacket. His black ensemble along with his black hair blended easily into the darkness that surrounded him. Slade stuffed his calloused hands into his pockets before turning to his left and heading towards his house several blocks away. As the cold air nipped at the visible flesh on his neck he silently cursed himself for not riding his motorcycle to work earlier that day. If only I could go back in time that far he thought to himself. More often than not, when he had time to think his thoughts would drift to one of two things: either his ability or his sister, who at the moment, was missing.

There he was, Nemo stood below the flickering street light, casting a silhouette in the evening's dim light or the lack there of. Nemo eyes glanced around the almost vacant street, there was something of a laziness to their glance. With the dark gothic style cloths and his wild black hair, Nemo noted the melodrama of the it all, it was heavily cliche. In a way though, it brought a touch of amusement to him, it was like a scene from a movie. Now, we'll just have to watch carefully amd see how it plays out, Nemo thought to himself as the figure of a man dressed in black caught his attention in all the shadows. The only other occupant at this late hour, Nemo wondered if it was the fact that the street was empty or the fact that he was on the street that was odd about this occurence. Perhaps it was like this every night and nothing at all was odd, but by the faint signs of a scowl on his face Nemo decided to assume otherwise. Nemo let out a sigh as he stood there, it was beginning to get chilly and Paris at night wasn't anywhere as near to being as interesting to him as during the day. It was a city of art and architecure, which aren't so equally appriciated when you can't see them. Well, that wasn't quite the whole reason, Nemo had found very little about his mother. Nemo had to stop himself from reaching for the ring around his neck as he thought about her, Don't loose focus.

Slade had only made it a few more steps when something hit him right in the face. He stumbled backwards to see a raven flapping it's wings, moving towards him. He could hardly see the creature with its black feathers blending in with the night, but it's eyes were enough indication of its location. Slade had barely enough time to duck as the raven tried to claw at him, it attempted to strike him several times only succeeding in causing a slight tear in the fabric of his shirt. As Slade was in the process of dodging another attack he noticed the bird clutching something in the claw it was not using to strike at him. After several more failed attempts the raven dropped whatever it was it had been holding and flew off. Slade was scowling more than ever now, his features hard and angry. What the bloody hell was that?! he thought, outraged at how he had just randomly been made the victim of a...bird attack. He glanced down to see a sealed letter resting a few inches away from his feet.

It wasn't exactly the last thing on Nemo's list of expectation, but it was pretty darn close. The whole thing only took a few moments; the bird flying out of nowhere all feathers and claws, then it dropping the letter and flying off back to who knows where. The melodramatic touch of the situation had left with the raven, now it was just sort of strange and a bit awkward. Nemo remained under the flickering street light contemplating whether he should say or do anything, but what was he suppose to say anyways. 'Do you get attacked by birds often?' The dude seemed alright enough, the scowl was so deep on his face now that Nemo was beginning to wonder if it would be permanent and began musing with himself what the guy would look like smiling, which was a bit difficult to do in the lack of light. Instead of just standing there below the light remaining all dark and mysterious Nemo decided he might as well do something. "So... got any secret admirers?" Nemo asked, gesturing towards the letter on the ground as he walked over to the guy.

Slade had crouched down and was a hair's breadth away from touching the paper when he heard movement and someone speaking. His head snapped up to see a boy around his age standing a few feet away. He scoffed slightly at his words "not unless my secret admirer is trying to kill me" he grumbled irritably. His scowl had faded slightly but instantly returned full force when he looked down and saw the rip on his shirt. "This is probably just some letter that that damned raven stole from a mail man or something" he commented. He turned to look back at the letter though he was more alert now that he knew someone was around. He reached for the paper once more before standing, the paper held between his forefinger and thumb.

I guess I would be irritated to if I got attacked by a random bird, things like that have an affect on a person. Nemo thought to himself as the man grumbled to himself. Not even a hint of smile at Nemo's comment, dreams just don't come true so easily. Perhaps today was just an off day for the guy; long hours at work, cat ran away, girl didn't give him her phone number, walking home in the dark, getting attack by birds- you know, the usual stuff. Stolen from a mail man though, Nemo sincerely doubted it, he had a feeling that this was a bit more then a random incident. What could be inside, he pondered curiously as the guy reached for the letter.
*after the hologram is finished*
That. Now that was definitely on his list of things he didn't expect. The deal with the ARC, people with supernatural powers out there like himself, mysterious bad guys, a proposition to join... Nemo wasn't quite sure how he felt about it all, not after all these years, and then now suddenly this happens. What was Nemo suppose to think? Never mind himself, what about the other guy? Was it a mistake and the letter was meant for Nemo, or was this guy a bit more then he seemed? Who is this guy?

Slade was silent and tense as he stared down at where the hologram had once been. His jaw was set and his muscles were tense. He knew that letter was meant for him and he honestly didn't know how to respond to any of it. His scowl was gone, replaced by a completely blank, neutral expression as he looked up from the letter and over to Nemo. His hazel eyes scanned over the boy, looking for any sign of recognition from what the man had just said. If what he had just been told was true, it was certainly possible this kid was just like him or for all he knew he could be one of the villains or whatever the guy had mentioned or he could be a simple civilian; Slade was hoping he was the first option. Slade was the first to break the silence, which was rare but even more so was that he was about to trust this guy who was a total stranger and who he had no reason to trust. "So what's your gift?" He asked, putting air quotes around the word "gift." He better be like me or else I'm screwed he thought to himself.

Should this guy be trusted? What about this whole ARC organization, are they really their allies? Nemo wasn't quite sure about either of those questions, but considering the situation the best option seemed to just go with it, at least for now. From the look in eyes and the question on his voice Nemo could tell that he was one of them, as in he wasn't normal, but now the guy just wasn't sure if Nemo was or not. He could just tell the guy no, walk away here and now and never get bothered again, but from what the ARC said that wasn't gonna happen. Despite everything, Nemo decided to tell the truth, or at least part of the truth. "I walk" Nemo said simply, to explain he walked over the wall and walked up it, as if the world was sideways. There was a bit more to Nemo's 'gift' then that, but now wasn't the time to explain it. "Now you?" Nemo asked from on top of the building. Trust went both ways, you have to bring something forth if you wanted to get something.

((I didn't put it in his charrie profile [I assumed it would be obvious, but just in case I'll say it now] but Slade can choose to freeze everything, yet leave an object or person unfrozen as well if he chooses))
Slade arched an eyebrow as he watched what the guy could do. Guess this may just be my lucky day. Well, at least he didn't runaway screaming he thought to himself before unbuckling the watch from his wrist and setting it on the ground. "Time" was his only response as he pointed at the watch as a sign for Nemo to watch it. Seconds later he froze everything around them, the clock hands stopping their movement. He kept everything frozen for twenty-five seconds before releasing it and letting time continue as it should. He bent down and picked up the watch, wrapping it around his wrist and fastening it. Slade could do do more than just that but he didn't trust this guy completely and wasn't ready to share everything yet. He looked down at the paper in his hand and noticed there were two sheets of paper inside, he frowned slightly before pulling them out and unfolding them.

The guy's ability was intriguing, other then the watch the only indicator of what Slade was doing was the that the flickering of the street light had stopped, only to began once again after the twenty five seconds were over. Nemo walked down from the top of the building, as if he were on an invisible staircase, and back over to Slade. Whether this was the extent of his ability or not remained a variable, but then again Nemo wasn't sharing everything either, and so they were equal in their lack of knowledge. As Nemo walked over he noticed the two sheets of paper that were in the letter, meaning that there still was something more. "What do they say?" Nemo inquired, considering whatever it was would likely involve him as well.

Slade was silent a moment as his eyes scanned the two sheets which were practically replicas of each other, other than their names. Slade looked at the name which was foreign to him, assuming it belonged to the other boy Nehemiah James Mallox, he repeated it a few times in his head, making sure he remembered it. "Like the man said earlier. We were both accepted to St. Peter's Boarding School in New York" he summarized before reading the letter word for word.

This was surely among the foremost one Nemo's list of odd ways to meet people. Scowls a lot, gets attacked by birds daily, and can freeze time. That's about all I know. Nemo thought to himself, considering how he didn't even know the man's name yet. "In case we die in the next few seconds- meteorite, zombie attack, flock of birds, the list goes on- my name's Nemo." he stated, since Slade could easliy see his name off the letter, but that was his full name. Nemo voice spoke with a casual calm mixed with a sort of laziness to it, a sort of strange accent, being a mix of French and Norwegian, being born in Italy, and traveling a lot.
"Now I guess the real question is, do we decide to go? High school, eh? There a first time for everything." Nemo said, without much explanation with the last comment, allow Slade to assume whatever he liked about him.

"Slade" he murmured as an introduction as he looked over the papers one more time before folding his letter up and slipping it into his pocket and handing Nemo his. "High school was never my thing and I don't really want to go back, but I must say, I'm curious about these ARC guys" he admitted. "I don't trust them yet but I still think it would be a good idea to see them in person" he said, more as a way of convincing himself that going to New York was the right decision rather than to convince Nemo. "Plus, I was planning on heading to New York in a few days anyway, so going there wouldn't be out of me way" he said with a shrug. "So I guess I might just be going back to school. In America" he said, not sounding all that thrilled about either statement.

Slade, not a name you hear every day, but I guess it fits the whole Mr.Scowl-Face image. Nemo mused over the guy's name as he took the paper, and likewise slipped it into his pocket. "The memories I have of school are fond; nap time, snack time, recess, nap time. Personally, I haven't been to school since second grade, but I'm guessing by your expression they don't have nap time in high school." Nemo replied, wondering if it was rude to ask if Slade had a disease that made his face into a permanent scowl. Nemo decided that he would go, partly because he was curious about these ARC people, and partly because Mr.Scowl-Face amused him. Then again, Nemo could leave anytime he wanted, though he suspected they had things in place for such an occurrence. Thinking back to what he had thought before about how the scene would play out, Nemo wandered that if this was the beginning of the movie, then how does it end? I'll just have to stay tuned, wait, and see.

Slade wondered why Nemo hadn't stayed in school but he didn't voice his question; Slade wasn't the prying type. "Nope. In high school you have more homework than the hours in a day, cranky teachers, detention, and worst of all, you have cliques" he said, remembering back to his high school days, a grimace forming on his lips as he remembered the dreadful years. "Honestly, if anybody ever tells you high school is the best years of their lives, they were probably drunk or high more than half the time and can't even remember it" he told him with a sigh. Slade wasn't usual someone to crack jokes unless he was around his sister but he couldn't hold it in any longer "I have to ask you a question" he said, his face serious as usual. "Do you have a insane friend with short term memory loss named Dory?" he asked, his expression never changing.

Nemo wondered what sort of clique he or Mr.Scowl-Face would fall into, it was quite amusing thinkingg about Slade in a classroom with that permanent scowl. Whether or not they had nap time, no matter of depressing the news was, Nemo was still set on the idea of going. What other sort of people are out there, and what sort of things can they do? Nemo wanted to know, and this was his best, if not his only, way to find out.
Nemo almost let out a gasp of suprise, a joke from Mr.Scowl-Face. How marvel, even if it wasn't very clever, but I guess you got to start somewhere. "Let me think about it, hm, I forget." Nemo shrugged, not bothering to loose character either,"Don't tell me, you're gonna ask if I have ever been two thousand leagues below the sea." He arched his eyebrow at Slade, wondering if he caught the reference.

Slade shook his head and his lips curved up ever so slightly before lowering once again into a straight line. "When do you plan to leave for New York?" Slade asked him, returning to his usual serious demeanor. "I plan to leave tomorrow" he said with a sigh as he thought of all the things he needed to handle before he left, if none of this panned out he'd be returning to Paris and he couldn't have things in a disorganized mess if he ended up returning. The fact that the sooner he got there the sooner he got answers to his questions from these ARC guys and the sooner he could find his sister was plenty of motivation to get to New York soon.

Gevaudan, FranceLily finally made it to her house in one dirt-stained white-dressed piece. Her dress was thankfully not torn, although it now had an unsightly color placed on it that she couldn't see. "Mom, I'm home," she called out. "Mom?"
No answer. That wasn't exactly atypical, but... yeah.
"Dad?"
He'd normally answer, but there was no sound. They must be out doing something then.
She sat down at the table and ran her hand around it to see if there was a brailled note for her. All her hand hit was an envelope, which she picked up (just in case). It was in braille, but it wasn't from her parents, it was from some place called St. Peter's, which was weird. She wasn't getting university information just yet.
She opened up and found a braille letter from the school inside along with a flat round disc. The letter read that she was accepted with free transport and tuition to the school, which was both disconcerting and exciting. Exciting because it sounded amazing from what she could read on it, but disconcerting because she didn't apply there, it was far away, and she didn't know how they got her address.
Suddenly a voice came out of nowhere.
She listened intently to the voice that sounded a bit crackly and hoarse and electric. She finally focused in on it and found that it came from the disc. It must be some sort of CD or DVD or something. She couldn't see anything about it.

A smile, well, an almost smile, but it was close enough. Nemo had discovered that Slade could indeed 'smile', and if there was hope for Mr.Scowl-Face, then who knows what else was possible. Nemo was greatly amused, despite the fact that the little burst of personality had only lasted a moment and he had fallen back into Mr.Serious, but relapses were common things. "Nothing much to do here, might as well leave tomorrow as well. Didn't they mention providing transportation, are there tickets in that envelope?" Nemo pried, not that it mattered since he could always sneek on, he was good at that. In truth, Nemo hadn't planned on staying in Paris much longer anyways, and had thought about going to the States, he had never been across the Alantic before. Examining Slade's own readiness to leave quickly, Nemo wondered if there was something else for him in New York, but he would have to wait till later to figure out if his suspicians were correct. The real thing that he had to worry about at the time at hand was where he was going to stay the night, though if worse came to worse he always had other options aviable to him.

((You make is sound like Slade has a disease or something xD))
Slade checked the envelope and indeed did find two tickets for a flight to New York "yeah, they have our tickets right here" he said as he pulled them out. "Guess we are all set to go, just have to pack and deal with a few things and I'll be gone tomorrow morning" he said while handing Nemo his ticket. "Have you ever been to the states?" Slade asked him, not out of curiosity but because if the lad had never been there before, New York may be a little hard to handle by himself. Slade and Nemo were far from friends but at the moment they were more or less the only ones of their 'kind' that they knew of, sticking together may be wise for the time-being.

Taking the ticket, Nemo scoffed silently, packing things? Nemo could carry everything he owned in a single pack, which was mostly spare cloths and a few favorite books, that and a couple personal artifacts. "Nope, been many othe places, but never across the Alantic. How about you, been anywhere interesting other then this fair city?" Nemo asked in return, at the same time he was pondering over the idea of following him back to his house since he had no where else to stay. He decided that if Slade suggested it he would, but otherwise Nemo would just have to figure something else out, but he was used to that. They weren't exactly friends by any stretch if the imagination though, their only bond was their similarity of being abnormal, otherwise they were complete strangers. Nemo only ever plays the part of being a friendly aquantance as long as it was necassary, otherwise friendship was foreign to Nemo.

Slade nodded "yeah, I've been to a few places. I've been to New York once, but only for a few hours before heading back here" he said with a light shrug. "Where do you live?" he asked him "for all we know these ARC guys could just be tricking us into showing up so they can ambush us and send us off to some lab, it would be best if we stuck together till we learn more" he stated "not that I trust you completely" he added on rather bluntly.

Where did he live? The answer was so complex, and yet so simple. "Everywhere, nowhere, but never the same place as the day before." Nemo responded as if it was what everyone did, as if Slade was the weird one for living in a home. True, the ARC could merely be tricking them, but Nemo had a feeling that they could do whatever they wanted even without a ploy, never the less it was wise to show caution. Referring to Mr.Scowl-Face's last comment Nemo replied,"The same goes for you smiley boy, but in our situation it counts very little, best to share whatever few pieces of knowledge we have if we are going to last."

So, basically he is homeless or just loves to move around Slade thought to himself with an internal sigh. Slade's lips turned down into their usual scowl at the use of the ridiculous nickname "don't push it fish boy" he grumbled under his breath before nodding at Nemo's next words. "Agreed, I suppose you can stay at my place for the night. There isn't a guest room but you can just stay in my sister's old room" he said before turning on his heel and walking the way he had been heading before he had been interrupted by that damned bird. Slade didn't look over his shoulder to see if Nemo was following or not, if he did then fine, if he didn't, it didn't affect Slade in anyway.

It could have gone worse, but now Nemo at least had a place to sleep, even if it was at McGrumpin's place. Most people might be put of irritated by someone who scowled as much as Slade did, but Nemo on the other hand found that he rather liked the fellow and his scowly ways. "There goes the reservations I made, and I had already paid the vermin(the vermin being literal)." Nemo spoke, while Slade remained scowling and serious, he equally remained casual and aloof, almost as if everything was eternally boring for him. Sister's old room? Now what did that infer, what about their parents? Where was the sister now, in New York? It would explain something, Nemo was curious about what sort of back story this Slade character had, and if it was anywhere near to being as bright and cheerful as Nemo's own. Only time will tell what stories lie behind that scowl, Nemo thought to himself as he followed Mr.Scowl-Face.

Slade made no comment to what Nemo said as he walked silently through the empty streets. It was nearly one A.M meaning he would probably end up pulling an all nighter seeing as he had to pack, clean out all food that could possible rot, email the post office to redirect his mail and call his boss to inform him he wasn't going to be able to work and that was all he could think of at the moment. Soon he walked up to a small, quaint white house in a nice enough neighborhood. He walked up to the front door and fished the keys out of his pockets before unlocking the door and opening it wide "make yourself comfortable" Slade said to Nemo as he walked inside.
The house wasn't what you'd expect from someone like Slade. It was nice and clean, everything in it's proper place and everything was spotless. The walls were a pale bluish-purple shade. On the right was the living room which held a small, old-fashioned TV sitting in front of a plush, black couch with a glass coffee table in between. To the left was the tiled kitchen with a breakfast table across from it.
Slade took off his jacket and hung it on a hook near the door before slipping his shoes of as he headed towards the kitchen.

He had seen worse, so making himself at home was quite easy for Nemo. The place was quite a cozy and neat home, and while others might not have expected such from Slade, Nemo felt that it fit Mr.Scowly quite well. As Nemo followed him to the kitchen,(having slipped his shoes off, following Mr.Scowl-Face's example) he noticed how Slade seemed a bit in a rush and even a touch bit stressed, perhaps his mind was on the things he had to do before tomorrow(well, today technically). Nemo on the other hand had very little to worry about or to deal with, he traveled all the time and so was always ready for it. "Any pets?" Nemo asked as he stood there in the kitchen doorway, and was silently amused by the idea of Slade being a cat person.

Slade shook his head at Nemo's question "no, my sister always wanted a dog but with her leaving for school and me having to work, nobody would be home to care for it" he said as he walked over to the fridge and pulled out two bottles of water, handing one to Nemo. He walked over to the sink where he pulled open the cabinets underneath and yanked out a garbage bag. He closed the cabinet and walked back over to the fridge and start pulling out food that would rot quickly and setting it on the small island in the center. "If you want to eat any of this just take some, otherwise I'll have to throw it away" he said as he continued taking things out.

More of a dog type, eh? Well, that wasn't nearly as amusing to imagine as it was to picture Mr.Scowly surrounded by kittens. "Leaving for school? Where'd she go?" Nemo pried as he took the bottle, perhaps this is what Slade would find in New York that made him so ready to just up and leave. Glancing at the food as Slade placed it on the counter one by one, Nemo didn't exactly feel the urge to eat anything, at least not at this time of night. Despite that, or perhaps a force of habit, Nemo took some cheese and crackers, because when you live like he does you never know when you might eat again.

Slade finished clearing out the fridge before turning towards Nemo. "She got into Julliard for dance and piano" he told him "she got the artistic side out of our twin-ship as well as all things nerdy when it came to school" he said, a smile threatening to form on his lips at the thought of his sister. He forced his lips down quickly though "I got the athletic genes as well as whatever gene gave me my abilities" he said with a shrug "my sister is an average human, so obviously whatever happened to our DNA or whatever doesn't affect siblings" he said.

Ah, twins. Perhaps she smiles a lot and it isn't a family trait. Nemo thought as he nibbled on some of his cheese and cracker and took a sip of water. "My mother use to enjoy playing the paino." Nemo suddenly said out of nowhere, and very much out of character. Again he had to stop himself from reaching for the ring around his neck as the memories of his mother came. Nemo quickly shoved a cracker in his mouth, scolding himself for recklessly loosing himself for a moment. "Does she know?" he spoke casually, as if his comment from earlier was nonexistence, he was referring to his 'gift'.

"I tried playing piano, Anna insisted I learn because she wanted to play together at her recital when we were eight. I totally bombed it and never touched the thing again" he said while shaking his head at one of the fonder memories in his past. "And yes, she does know" he said "three know, well I suppose only two know now" he said, his voice slightly bitter. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair "come on, I'll show you to where you'll be sleeping" he said as he walked out of the kitchen.

'My mother taught me when I was seven, said I was a natural, but after she died I never touched one again.' Nemo said to himself silently, his expression unmoving. All of the fond memories he had came with a sharp pain, like knives through the heart, but Nemo never allowes the pain to reach his face. Two now? Nemo wandered what that meant, and suspected it was nothing good, he could hear the bitterness in Slade's voice andunderstood it well. Nemo nodded and followed Slade out of the room. So, what will it be like? Pink walls and purple curtains, perhaps? Or maybe skulled wallpapers and metal bars on the windows? Looking at how Slade was, either was possible. "Have guests often?" Nemo doubted.

Slade walked silently up the stairs and walked across the hallway, his socked feet silent. He stopped in front of a simple white door before turning the knob and opening the door to reveal a room with black walls and red vertical stripes. The carpeted ground was black and made to be soft and fluffy under your feet. There was a double bed in the middle of one of the walls on the far right side of the room, it had red sheets to match the stripes on the walls and had a mix match of red and black pillows. The dresser was on the opposite of the room next to a vanity table and desk, all of which were left at the natural shade of the wood. There was a door a few feet away from the bed which led to the closet and one bare wall was almost all windows. Scattered along the walls were random sheets of classical music pinned up as well as posters of pianists and dancers. "She never was a girly girl" he said as he walked inside.

I like her style, perhaps I would like to meet this Anna. Nemo mused to himself as he entered the room, quite liking the overall theme of the room. "I can see, not an ounce of pink." Nemo stated in response to the room. "It all looks quite neat, as if she were coming home any second." He noted as he examined the room, Slade onviously hade a close relationship with his sister. Nemo only remembered vaguely in a blur what such a bond might have felt like, from as far back as he could recall there has always been a single rule in his life. 'Bonds were made to be broken', and one way or another they were. Nemo turned to Slade, "Where is your room?"

"She absolutely hates pink" Slade said "every year since we were kids I'd buy her a pink birthday present just to piss her off" he said, he normally didn't share this much information but when it came to talking about Annalisa he couldn't help it. "Yeah, I leave her things alone so it's just like when she left. I just dust in here when it starts to look as though it belongs in a haunted house" he said before tuning to face Nemo. "Right across the hall" he said, nodding his head towards a spot behind Nemo where another simple white door was. "I have some things to do before we leave but you can sleep if you'd like, I'll wake you up when we need to leave. Oh, and the bathroom is just down the hall" he said, being a good host. His mother had always taught him that if you invite someone into your home you must be respectful and courteous and even with her dead he'd never go against her. "There is a spare toothbrush in the drawer" he told him as he walked over the desk in the room. There was sketchpad sitting there with a few pencils next to it. Slade picked all the supplies up and tucked the sketchpad under his arm and held the pencils in his hand. Annalisa and Slade were odd, they didn't only talk and email but ever month they sent each other something as a way of telling them what has happened over the whole month, even if they already knew. Slade always sent her drawings or paintings while she sent him pieces of music she wrote or a video of her dancing something she'd choreographed. Slade had lied slightly when he said his sister got all the artistic talent seeing as he himself was an excellent artist. With all that had happened that day, he had several things he needed to draw.

It seemed like his sister was the one topic that took away Slade's scowl, the way he talked about her made Nemo wish he had a sibling. Then he took it back an instant later, to wish such aa life unto another was truly a terrible thing, and rather oddly Nemo found that he was glad thaat he was an only child. Still though, the care he took of the room and the way he talked about his sister, the way he teased her, still made Nemo wander. Nemo just nodded as Slade talked, then almost arching an eyebrow when he saw him take the sketchpad. No artistic skills, eh? Though Nemo might have just been assuming things. "I think I'll read for a bit, how about you and your sister, read much?" Nemo asked as he sat down on the end of the bed.

Slade sat down so he was straddling the chair at the desk and facing Nemo. "We both like to read, her more than me though. We both enjoy mystery books and action over all that lovey dovey stuff but Anna reads that too seeing as she likes it once in a while. In the end though she always ends up going on about how they give girls false hopes and high expectations for men" he said. "What genre do you like, I'm sure we have something that will suit your tastes if you want to pick something. A whole wall in the office is a giant bookcase" he told him.

"Not too picky about the genre, but a good mystery sounds fine. Any decent suggestions?" Nemo replied, recalling the many nights he had spent in a library when there was little else to go. His father was an author, and something about the written word just made Nemo feel as if he understood him better. Nemo read not only fictional stories but factual books as well, really, just whatever he got his hands on, it was his own version of school. Slade seemed to make it out pretty well for whatever he did for a job( a nice house, an office, a bookshelf, etc.) or maybe perhaps there was more to it then simply that.

"The Alex Cross series by James Patterson is a personal favorite" Slade told him before setting down the sketchpad and pencils, rising from the chair and walking over to the door. "I'll grab it for you, be back in a moment" he said before slipping out of the bedroom and heading towards the office which was downstairs. He checked his watch on the way down the stairs, it said it was one thirty meaning he most definitely wasn't going to get any sleep, but he could always sleep on the plane so it didn't matter all that much. When he reached the bottom of the steps he turned and walked into the small home office they had. He looked at the wall/bookcase which was overflowing and had books lying around because of the lack of space. He searched for the first book in the series, Along Came A Spider.

He looked at the wall/bookcase which was overflowing and had books lying around because of the lack of space. He searched for the first book in the series, Along Came A Spider.

Nemo watched him leave, even if he did scowl too much he was a pretty decent person, very polite. Nemo was almost tempted to open the door across the hall just to see what sort of room he had and if he had picture of kittens in his wall. Alas, Nemo stayed put where he was deciding that he would be a good house guest. What strange turn of events, nothing was quite what he had expected it to be, but that only made it more interesting for Nemo. Nemo mused over what sort of place New York would be, and what sort of people he would meet, from Slade's sister and others like him to the ARC.

Slade eventually found the book in the unorganized mess and made his way back upstairs to Nemo. "Here you go" he said when he walked back into the room, book in hand. "I'll just leave you to do whatever you'd like" he said as he handed the book over. "If you need anything feel free to ask and if you want to eat, watch TV or whatever you don't need to ask" he told him as he opened the door once again. "Do you have anything that needs to be packed?" he asked him with an arched eyebrow although he already guessed the answer to that question.

"Thanks" Nemo said as he was handed the book, turning it over in his hands. Then to Slade's question,"Nope, everything I have to my name is in this back." Referring to the one that was on his back that he placed on the bed next to himself. Most people found Nemo's way of living odd, but the again he was the Wanderor and that's just how things were. Thinking for a second, the edges of Nemo's lips curved slightly as he asked,"Got a name to go with your gift?"

Slade glanced at the bag before simply nodding. "I never thought about giving it a name but Annalisa always just called it 'Time Manipulation'" he told him "then she started calling me Pendulier which means clockmaker in French. She would always joke that that should be my alias if I ever become a super hero" Slade said, shaking his head at even the thought of becoming a super hero. "What about yours?" he asked, genuinely curious for once.

The Pendulier, it was an intriquing choice, and it fitted. "The Wanderer" Nemo answered, the name was simple and yet fir so perfectly. Though Nemo had never had any urges to become a super hero or anything else, though the thought had crossed his mind a few times when he was bored. "What about what the ARC talked about, if they are thee villians then what does that make us?" Nemo posed the question.

"I suppose we are simply the undecided" Slade said. "We, as well as the others like us, are the ones who have the choice of tipping the scale by choosing between, as cliche as it sounds, good and evil" he mused "we can choose to remain neutral and stay out of it all but I have no doubt that we would get pulled into the mix someway, somehow. From the message it sounds like the scale is currently favoring that of evil and darkness we can choose to aid them, tipping the scale even more so in their favor or we can choose good, our decisions wont mean much but if enough choose to aid ARC the scales may tip in their favor" he said. "So basically, it's like a chess game. These evil doers make their move then Arc makes theirs. We just need to decide who we wont to be pawns for" Slade said with a sigh, he didn't like the idea of being a pawn but he knew that's what he would be, no matter his choice.

What a detestable situation. Nemo was not one, in any circumstance, to play the part of the pawn, and very much disliked when such a role was placed upon him without his knowledge. Ignorance, in Nemo's opinion, is the greatest weakness of any person, and that was exactly what they were at the moment, ignorant. Ignorant of the events around them, events that were now manipulating them. Nemo would go with it all for now, for what other choice did he have?- but he wouldn't stay contempt for long, Nemo would learn what he could and bid his time. A pawn? Ha! Not for long. Nemo thought to himself, one way or another he would get what he wanted and not want ARC told him to do. "How terribly sorry I feel for our fair planet, when the balance of scales is left to likes of us." Nemo mused out loud as he turned the book in his over in his hands.

"Humanity was doomed anyway" Slade said with a nonchalant shrug. "I guess we will just have to figure everything out tomorrow. I'm gonna book us some rooms at a hotel in New York. The boarding school will have dorms but I plan on checking it out before I officially attend it" Slade told him, at the moment he trusted nothing about the situation they were in; not ARC and not this boarding school they wanted them to attend. "I have a few calls to make, try to get some sleep" Slade said as he twisted the door handle and opened it.
