Barrie Penman | 2 comments I have read this book and would like to hear other Scottish peoples thoughts on it.
Here is mine:-
Great characters and relationships. Thought provoking interaction and relationships. Have met all the characters at sometime or other so very believable.
Critisism of unnecessary language obviously by people who have lead very sheltered lifes and only get out and about with their mothers or carers.
Unusual in the fact it lacked a hero person or someone you actually liked or could idedntify with.

Micha (micha85) | 1 comments I couldn't finish it, and the half that I read I didn't enjoy.

As far as the language goes, I didn't enjoy that aspect of it and thought it entirely unnecessary! No I'm not 'sheltered' - swearing like a sailor seems to be a prerequisite for being a barmaid in Glasgow city centre, which I did for some time.

However, I'm not surprised that you found the characters very believable as Rowling apparently based the book on a village that she had lived in and its inhabitants. Probably why I didn't like it, if my life appeared in a work of supposed fiction I'd be quite put out to say the least.
