Hey...I'm Lucy from Howell, NJ. I love horror and vampires, but despise and detest the bastardized version of bedazzled vampires that has come from the Twilight craze! I won't be mean to you if you are a Twilight fan...but I will try to convince you that there are MUCH better vampire stories, novels, etc.. out there!

Welcome, Caterina. Glad to have you in our group. I like to think of this not as just a hate group but as a place where vampire fans can go without hearing "oh my god Twilight is so awesome!". I'm still working on the group but glad to have you with us. :)

message 4: by RB (new)

RB (rblindberg) Hi guys! :) love the initiative in creating this group :)

I'm originally from Denmark, but I live and work in the Netherlands.

Been loving vamps and vampire literature (and movies too of course) for as long as I can remember.

Looking forward to interact with you guys so we can share tips on what to read and what to avoid ;-)

Welcome, Rick. Glad to have you with us. I've read some short stories by Poppy Z. Brite but have not gotten to Lost Souls yet. But I plan to.

message 10: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (danielleamy) | 1 comments I'm Danielle and i'm a writer, but my vampires don't sparkle, or eat cute little bunnies. Vampire's are monsters, badass monsters. If you want to explore your dark side check out The Forbidden Trilogy Part One

You won't be disappointed.

Warning; Intended for mature audiences. Contains strong language, violence and sexual content.

A.R. (arbraun) | 5 comments Hi, my name's Alan, and I'm pretty tired of vampires in general, but especially of the Twilighty sort. They can still be done right, though, i.e. Let the Right One In.

Welcome Alan. Did you see both the U.S. and international versions?

message 16: by Elke (last edited Feb 26, 2013 11:37PM) (new)

Elke (misspider) Hi! First off, I have to admit I read all kinds of vampire books, though I prefer the horror genre. But if a book manages to entertain, I don't care if the vampires are good or bad. And though I prefer the bloodthirsty kind, I don't mind to throw in some romance or other stories with "good" vamps now and then. I enjoy the variety that is available today and that each genre also has some vampire stories to offer.

As you can easily check I rated Twilight 5 stars, but I am not a fan. I enjoyed reading it back then, as it was something new, but afterwards forgot about it and went on to the next book. Later, I tried the first movie and hated it, and I definitely can't understand the hype with so many other good books out there. Also, I think of Twilight as a trilogy, as I consider the fourth part a huge mistake.

Today I feel tempted to give a lower rating just to distance myself from the Twilight groupies, but that wouldn't be honest, so live with it! :[

That one definitely was great! I watched the original movie and loved it. Never bothered for the US remake, as I'm sure it can only be worse.

message 19: by Leland (new)

Leland Pitts-Gonzalez (savage-anesthesia) | 7 comments Hi, my name is Leland. Sorry, I did look for the author folder, but didn't find it. First, I have never opened a Twilight book and never will. I'm a lover of dark literary fiction and horror, including those with vampires. Someone mentioned Poppy Z. Brite (I'm a fan), but I'd like to mention a young writer, Grace Krilanovich's The Orange Eats Creeps. More later about her in another folder.

My book is The Blood Poetry and, among other things, includes terrifying yet interesting vampire characters: the protagonist's repugnant mother; Pentecostal vampires who have given up live victims; and, the protagonist's stepfather and epicenter of all evil, Professor Applebaum. In a review Horror Talk gave my novel five stars and said, "The Blood Poetry is visceral, brutally honest, cerebral, entertaining..."

Happy reading and looking forward to discussions.

Jessa Callaver (jessa_callaver) | 10 comments Hi All,

Jessa here. (Thanks for the invite, Dustin.)

Rice, Stoker, Vlad the Impaler, "The Lost Boys"... "30 Days Night" and Nosferatu to a lesser degree (would even prefer Geena Davis in "Transylvania 65000" to "Twilight"). Just not my cup 'o ginger tea.

Nice to meet everyone!

message 25: by Gary (new)

Gary Martin (gmmartinbooks) Hi, my names Gary. I like my vampires nasty. I will make an exception if the vampire is half human as in the Blade series.

Elizabeth Arroyo (earroyo) Hi!

Thanks for the invite. I'm a Young Adult author. My debut THE SECOND SIGN is a Dark Paranormal Romance. No vamps but loads of evil demons. =) My favorites are Interview with a Vampire, Salems lot, and The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa (YA).

message 31: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hi, everyone!

I know some of you, but see many unfamiliar faces, so here goes. I am Dustin, hailing from the Pacific-Northwest. Nearly four months ago (tempus fugit, indeed!) our beautiful baby boy was born, and we couldn't be happier! Every moment is cherished.

King is my all-time favorite author, but I'm much more versatile than that. I enjoy a wide variety of genre's.

Admittedly, I have read the Twilight Saga, along with the novella. I certainly didn't love it, but actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Carla Natali | 3 comments Hey guys!

I´m Brazillian, I´m a suspense author and my first novel, Two, is currently for sale at Amazon.

I love thrillers and horror mostly but I´m open to other genres as long as the plot is consistent and the characters behave like someone that could actually exist, despite being a vampire or werewolf.

Tracy (notrace) Hello to all, and thanks to Kyle for the invite. I am not a fan of glam horror at all, pretty monsters just aren't realistic. I prefer my monsters more old school. Looking forward to adding to my TBR list.

My name is Salma but everybody calls me Sally.

Char Hello, I'm Char! I'm a horror and dark fiction lover. Dustin invited me here, I hope I'm not crashing the party! :)

I love bad-ass vampires. I've read all the classics of the genre from Dracula,I am Legend and Salem's Lot, up to the newer versions like The Passage or The Twelve.
Toss in a couple of McCammon vampire books, and his new one coming out soon (I Travel by Night, and toss in a couple of Alan Ryker's vamps too Burden Kansas and I think I'm pretty up to date.

Just the thought of a sparkling vampire makes me want to puke. I could not possibly care less about anything Twilight related.

Hello, I'm Kimberly. I absolutely abhor all things Twilight related. I enjoy vampire stories that are done "they way they should be"--in my opinion, of course--LOL!

Favorites of mine include Alan Ryker's BURDEN KANSAS, SALEM'S LOT, THEY THIRST (very excited about McCammon's new one!), and accounts of Vlad the Impaler. Thank you for the invite, Kyle!
