I was wondering what other long series you guys like. My personal all time favorites are: Robert Jordans (and Brandon Sandersons) the Wheel of Time, George R.R. Martins a Song of Ice and Fire, James Clemens' the Banned and the Banished and offcourse Hobbs Realm of the Elderlings.

another late reply - because i didn't see it being added!
the first fantasy series i ever read as a teenager is Eddings' Belgariad and the Mallorean, which i still really like, but of course i'm biased because it's also nostalgia.
loved George RR Martin, i also really enjoyed reading Joe Abercrombie - but it's a lot darker and grittier so i know not everyone likes them.
the mistborn trilogy has some amazing world- and magical system building, but i wasn't superfond of the main characters (though i absolutely adore some of the secundary characters) - really worth reading
just finished the first book of Patrick Rothfuss - AMAZING writing! i'm really looking forward to reading the remaining books

also thanks for the suggestion Jenny - i never heard about James Clemens before! looks interesting, i have to check it out now!
I second Dark Tower. But I also like Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Trilogy. It's more a historical take on the Arthur and Merlin story - but totally awesome.
I've recently become a fan of Brandon Sanderson. Haven't had as much time for him as I'd like. At least two books bought and waiting to be read.:)
Jennifer Roberson is a big favorite. Lately, her Karavan's series. Her Cheysuli Chronicles are what caught me.
I heard about Patrick Rothfuss recently and I'm looking forward to reading that - specially after another recommendation here. Thanks Hanne. I've been reading Raymond E Feist and particularly liked The Empire Series written with Janny Wurts, who is another author I'd like to read more of
aaa too many books! Raymond Feist is on definitely on my to read list. and these sound interesting.
Rothfuss is definitely a recommended read!

Haha! my sentiments exactly, I'm reading Malazan Book of Fallen which is a big read for me (not so much length of book, but the time I spend reading and re-reading it. I don't know how you manage to read it and read another series at the same time!) I'm really keen to read Patrick Rothfuss and also the Wheel of Time series. It's fantastic to get all these recommendations from everyone
i actually stopped reading them at the same time.
i used to only read 1 book at the time (perhaps sometimes 2), but since joining goodreads a year ago, reading 2 or 3 at the same time had become the norm but i actually realized that i didn't enjoy it as much and sometimes had more issues concentrating on the story.
so i'm going back to reading one at the time. finishing hobb tonight, as of tomorrow going back to deadhouse gates.
i can mix up series without a problem, but i struggle mixing books, especially if there both fantasy for instance

That makes a lot of sense - I often have several books on the go at the same time, but they have to be very different. I find I can't read much of Malazan at a sitting but I forget the details so easily I couldn't read anything else until the book is finished. I've finished Deadhouse gates - I don't pay much attention to time so didn't really notice that I was ahead of group read. I'm in need of a quick read as a break from Erikson - something stand alone so i'm not tempted into another series, though I'm not sure what

Thanks Rob - sounds interesting. I might just give that a go, if I can get my hands on a copy.
Meh, I read so many different kinds of novels. I'm more about an author than about a particular series. But I read The Belgariad by David Eddings long ago, when I was about 15 and loved them. I also devoured Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind in 2011... or 2012, I can't remember. Somewhere around Faith of the Fallen, I all of a sudden dropped the ball and quit on them. I was fed up with lovey dovey longing and had to take a break which I still haven't recovered from.
And of course A Song of Ice and Fire by RR Martin, which I devoured just after I saw the first series of the TV series.
The Patrick Rothfuss books are excellent, a must-read!I loved Game of thrones, and the Cheysuli series are an old favorite of mine. I never liked the Wheel of time, it just went on forever.
I also love Fritz Leiber's Fahferd and the Grey Mouser books, old classics

Firstly - my apologies for not replying sooner, somehow you comment was missed.
Obviously - as I'm still alive, I did manage to find other books to interest to give me a break from Erikson.
I have a copy of The Belgariad and I'm definitely going to read it soon, but as I didn't want to start another series I put it on hold.
So I decided it was time to lighten up with a little Terry Pratchett's Discworld and Bridge of Birds was highly recommended too.
Still not ready to return to Erikson I have succumbed to starting and sometimes finishing other fantasy series. David Eddings is next on my list

Yes - I really enjoyed The Name of The Wind and I also read Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy followed fairly soon after by the first 2 of Gentleman Bastards series by Scott Lynch.
Silly me found myself intrigued by constant mentions of Wheel of Time so have just read first 2 of those. I'm reserving judgement on those at present.
I think David Eddings might be next and Fritz Leiber is high on my list so I will look out for your recommendations. Thanks for them

Rob you made this recommendation a while ago now, I still haven't found it locally. Might have to take a trip to Amazon ..... especially as Patrick Rothfuss says " This book was fucking awesome. " in his review I think I have to read it!
I recently discovered the Vlad Taltos series by Steven Brust, and it's pretty awesome so far, though I'm only 3 books in. Jhereg was the first book.I also really like R. Scott Bakker's stuff. I think he's about halfway done a planned trilogy of trilogies. The first trilogy was called Prince Of Nothing, and the first book is The Darkness That Comes Before.
I also really dig Martin, Abercrombie, Rothfuss, Jordan, Leiber, and Erikson. Of course.
Bryan wrote: "I also really like R. Scott Bakker's stuff."This one is part of my tbr-abyss for ages now. It looks really interesting and I need to get to it sometime.
It's not really a series yet, but a debut novel I was really impressed with was Miles Cameron's The Red Knight.
The second book might be out at the end of this year or at the beginning of the next, at least the UK version.
I enjoyed Wheel of Time as well and also Sanderson's other works (looking forward to Words of Radiance next year!).As for other long series, Kate Elliott's Crown of Stars (7 books) was excellent, an alternate history dark ages with magic. Great characters and culture-building.
Anne Bishop's Dark Jewels series (9 books) was good, although like Wheel of Time they vary in quality somewhat. The original trilogy and the short story collections are excellent; adult content warning, if that matters to you.
Trudi Canavan's Black Magician trilogy +1 was fun, high fantasy that was fast and interesting. Her second trilogy in the same world is on my TBR list.
If you like darker fantasy, C. S. Friedman has two great trilogies (all her stuff is great IMO but some of it is sci-fi). Coldfire and Magister; both trilogies, both excellent.
And last (at least for now LOL) Kate Forsyth's 6 book series Witches of Eileanan and the follow-up trilogy Rhiannon's Ride. They're based on Celtic mythology. The "accent" of the dialogue takes some getting used to but the stories are great.
