I think what makes the show so great is that the characters are all so complex.
My favorite characters would have to be Bill Compton, Eric is cool, Sookie Stackhouse of course, and oh yeah...Lafayette is aweome.

I love the books and the show ( I am we'll behind on the show though ). It's gritty, dark and violent which I love. I have to also confess I love the other supernatural species in the show I get my fix all in one place

I love the books and, don't worry, I'm behind on the show too. I don't get HBO so I buy all the seasons on DVD. And I've read the first book.

You know, I love True Blood, but I think the part where they drink the vampire blood to get high is pretty fucking stupid.
I'm currently reading Dead Ad a Doornail by Charlaine Harris and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's really making me want to watch the show all the more!
Dan wrote: "You know, I love True Blood, but I think the part where they drink the vampire blood to get high is pretty fucking stupid."I agree I don't get that part - though it seems to be a theme if you have watched Moonlight they use vampire blood to get high in that!!

I watched Moonlight too I don't remember that. I remember in Blade The Series they used to take the ashes of dead vampires and snort them to get high.

You know what pisses me off is that in episode 9 of season 4 it shows that Jessica reads Twilight.
Dan wrote: "You know what pisses me off is that in episode 9 of season 4 it shows that Jessica reads Twilight."Yeah, but I saw that as being more of a joke about Jessica than an endorsement of Twilight. The idea of a genuine vampire reading silly crap like Twilight shows that, in a lot of ways, Jessica still has the mind of a teenage girl.

I guess. But why not have Jessica read Dracula or Salem's Lot??? Fucking teenagers these days...what a pussy generation.

As part of this generation I feel I must defend our reputation. We're not all sissies pining over pansy sparkly vampires. Some of us prefer to pine over manly non sparkly ones Lol!
Jess reading Twilight is more of an ironic joke. The same way Buffy treated Dracula. It's all tongue in cheek.
As to True Blood, I love LaLa who actually dies in the books (I think) but was so popular he was given his own storylines instead. I'm Team Eric all the way and Pam just cracks me up. Vampire blood getting people high is honestly everywhere. It's because mortals react strongly towards blood from a "superior" being or what have you. Yeah it's hokey but if you drank the blood from a creature who had superstrength, immortality, heightened senses and all sorts of other supernatural powers what would you expect?
Having read all the books and seen the series, I have to say that I appreciate them as entirely separate beasts, both to be loved. The show lacks Bubba, and basically threw the book plot out in season two/three.
Aside from that, Bill is seriously underwhelming, the way he says Sookie is also terribly annoying. Eric is almost as yummy as he should be, but when you look too closely at him, his forehead is frightening, the only one who is as hot in series as he is in type is Jason, hot yummy cakes.
The girls are great, I actually enjoy the series Pam more than the type Pam, her flash backs are some of the most fun, and her outfits and her expressions, not to mention gorgeous.
I don't like the portrayal of Sookie on the series, she's a bit more feisty which I do enjoy, but she also seems to be a bit dumb... or at least gullible, which are traits that shouldn't be found in a mindreader...

I will say that I feel this is one of those rare occasions where the TV/Movie is better than the source material. I read books 1-4 and just gave up.
