Oooh, I love me the pop art. Roy Lichtenstein and Alex Katz are probably my absolute favorite artists of all time, but I also love David Hockney and Patrick Nagel--who seems very pop art-ish to me, even though he didn't live in that era. Special mention goes to Pascal Croci the comic book artist, and probably a thousand manga artists, and...and...I could probably bore you all day with my favorites. Did I mention Horse Blinders? Never mind, I need to get back to this dystopic pea book I'm reading. It's awesome!
I think this one is Pre-Raphaelite, it's certainly romantic era. The Dance of Salome by Gustav Moreau. It always reminds me of that song by Siouxie and the Banshees "Bring me the Head of the Preacher Man"
I love Moreau! Apparently Andre Breton considered his art to be a forerunner to Surrealism. My favourite movements would be: Surrealism (especially the female artists), Dadaism, the art of the fin de siecle (Art Noveau). The Blue Rider printmakers, hmm, the Mexican Realists, heaps more I can't think of at the moment.
Least favourites would include Postmodernism, which I foolishly took an extra unit in at art school.
How about Kangra painting? It's the traditional form of art from the valley neighbouring mine. Personally I hate it, which is pretty astounding coming from someone like me, who likes everything antiquated.
Cool. I'll put links here: http://www.google.com.au/search?q=Kan...http://www.harekrsna.com/sun/features...
