Francesca Woodman: "Francesca Woodman (USA, April 3, 1958 – January 19, 1981) was a photographer best known for her black and white pictures featuring herself and female models. Many of her photographs show young women who are nude, who are blurred (due to movement and long exposure times), who are merging with their surroundings, or whose faces are obscured. Her work continues to be the subject of much attention, years after she committed suicide at the age of 22."

Ederyn Khushrenada | 41 comments I never heard of her before now, but her bio on Wikipedia is so sad. She seemed to be totally ignored until she became so depressed about it and committed suicide, and then because she did, her work suddenly caught everyone's attention. So the message is you have to kill yourself these days just to get any recognition. Waaaaah!

She was troubled. Her family were well off, I seem to remember. She produced much of her work while young. I stumbled across her many years ago, when reading: Vanishing Presence. I find her photographs to be hauntingly beautiful.
