March 2013: Ugly Covers
I just started a book, but I expect to finish it fast, so I'll participate in this challenge. My choice is
.
I think I might read
, but I'm not quite sure yet; I have quite a few books with some really half-assed covers on my Kindle, so I might try to plow through those instead...?
I will read
. But I think Melissa has found the best book for this month.
has to be the ugliest book cover ever.
I looked at one of the lists, and once I'm done reading A Game of ThronesI am going to read the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series,Dead Until Dark
. I have never read the books yet and I've read all series ones this year so far. I need a funny one!
A friend of mine has
on a shelf in her living room, and it always catches my eye because of its garish colours and pattern. So I'll be reading that one in March.
Kristina wrote: "I am about to read
. A disgusting book cover."You are right. Not sure whether this one or Melissa's book cover is more disgusting.
I'll have to rummage through my shelves this weekend for some bad covers. I try to avoid buying bad covers when I can, but I know of a couple that are pretty awful.
I am planning on reading City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) Im not sure how yall get the pics of the books on here thou. If I finish this one then Im planning on reading Moon Struck (wonderful books w/awful covers)

Then when you find your book, be sure that "cover" is clicked also (instead of "link").

Tima wrote: "I can't find an ugly cover on the books I own! Maybe I'm feeling too forgiving this week.."Maybe one of us can look at your list and choose for you. I think lots of book covers are ugly! :D :D
(Then again, maybe I'm not such a good person; I find the Sookie book covers charming. :| I love this thread, though; it's really interesting to me to see what people think is an ugly cover. Some of them all of us can agree on, but then there are some that some of us may like!)

Its the longest book I've ever read. 804 pages!! Im challenging myself this year and gonna read a few really long books. We'll see how that goes!
There isn't actually a picture on here to do justice to the horror of the vile cover wrapped around the copy of Book of Daniel that I'm reading at the mo . . . It's a plain black cover that has aged badly and faded to a nasty shade of off green / black . . . It's more of a bruise than a book cover . . . .
Tammra wrote: "Started reading
. Ugly cover, but a pretty good book!"Great boom Tammra I read that last year
If I ever manage to finish last month's read (still trogging through its 700+ pages), I hope to read The Glass Room
by Simon Mawer. Understand the story's a good one, which hopefully makes up for the awful cover!
I quite like the covers of the books I own. If nothing dreadful arrives, I'll probably reread Harry Potter or Sookie series - I'm not impressed by the official artwork
I'll start with Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore
, which isn't so much ugly as dull--and I do not like yellow, so that's close enough for me!

Of the three books I'm currently reading, one has I cover I don't like, one has a cover that's just ok, and one has I cover I love. So my first book for this month's theme is
. I would have never picked this book up just by looking at the cover. I can see where it would grab some people's attention, but it is not appealing to me at all.

Ugly cover; great book!

This story sounds good (and he's got a new book coming out this year that's getting great buzz, The 5th Wave). I find the paperback cover, with the skulls in the background, worse. It's rare that I like a cover that has a skull on it.
I'm going to read some of the Stephanie plum books by Janet Evanovich. They aren't ugly per say, but they are pretty boring and had they not been highly reccomended to me I wouldn't have read them based on the cover (because I am so guilty of reading books soley because I like the cover.)
Just finished The Woman in Black
- thought the cover was pretty ugly (though I had the audiobook version so had very little exposure to the cover once it was loaded on my mp3 player). The book was ok - though not as scary as I thought it could have been.
I am currently reading my choice Bad Blood: A Memoir which is also more dull than ugly. Interesting so far.
I'm in the middle of
, which definitely has a cover that I do not appreciate. Way too cheesy. Would not have picked this up unless I had heard plenty of good reviews. It is entertaining so far.
I'm reading 'Haunted Ground'
. To my eye this is an unpleasant cover so this will be my book this month. Luckily it serves for two book groups. (Smile)
I've found an old book from 1993 which probably has the original 1945 design cover. It's 'Sparkling Cyanide' by Agatha Christie
I'm reading the Shining by Stephen King with the silver cover. More of a beat-up cover than an ugly one, but I'm dying to read it. :)
I am going to go with
. I never read this book in high school so it has been on my list and I find the cover boring and kind of dirty.

So now it's time to see what book you'll be reading in the upcoming month! Remember, of course, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder--if you think a cover is ugly or unattractive, use the book for the theme! If you don't have an unattractive covers on your shelves already, there are plenty of places to browse some of the world's less beautiful covers. Some examples are:

If you want to discuss the book with others who have read it or are reading it, remember to create a new thread in the March 2013 folder and attach the book to it.
If you aren't interested in complying with this month's theme for whatever reason, you can head on over to the Theme Rebels folder and tell us about what you're reading instead.
And don't forget to vote on the poll for April's theme. The poll for May's theme will be open for voting on March first.
Happy reading, everyone!
