Getting ready to put a new display up at the library for National Poetry Month, and although I like a little poetry, let's just say that I am far from expert in this genre. So... who are your favorite poets? Do you have favorite books or poems by those poets? Favorite anthologies? Do tell.

Susie (susidee) | 11 comments HOwdy! Been offline lately, thanks for the updates.
I love Cleopatra Mathis, her collection White Sea is excellent. Billy Collins is very down to earth and occasionally, surprisingly poignant. Of his many collections, my favorite is Nine Horses. Liesel Mueller and Tess Gallagher are also very good and I could thumb through if you want a specific poem suggestion. For kids, I love A A Milne poems. But by far I love Wordsworth, Shelley and Frost the best!!!

I am very fond of Karla Kuskin:

BUGS
I am very fond of bugs
I kiss them and I give them hugs.

And, of course, Shel Silverstein

Thanks, Susie and Jackie! I still think my favorite poetry book is "Reflections on a Gift of Watermelon Pickle," which was one of the first real poetry books I got into as a child (besides Shel Silverstein and A.A. Milne, of course).
