Reddit has had quite a few interesting book threads I think we have a duty to the Reddit community to compile that list here.

Sounds like a cool idea but maybe there is a more organized way to do this then this thread?
Is it possible to have group discussions around a book that is on the bookshelf? i can't seem to figure this out but i think it would be cool.
Here are two threads with huge collection of book recommendations: http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/com...

I don't know how the process of creating new book self works, still new here. Does the mod do it or anyone can do it?
I was going to post something similar to Pavs. But here's one more that I came across: must reads for any designer - http://www.reddit.com/r/web_design/co...
Anyone can start a new topic, but I think only the mod can make folders (?). So one option would be to start a folder for, say, The Brothers Karamazov--then any group member could start a topic about such and sucha theme, or the first few chapters, etc. I think any group member can start a poll, too. So if you all wanted to read a book together you could make a list of 'to-reads' and then everybody could vote for the one they'd like to read together.
I expected a lot more action in this group--everyone still hibernating in /r/books? Sometimes you need to step away from reddit... and meet up with a bunch of redditors on another site! :)

Hm, should we also establish the bookclub over here too? This might be a more effective gathering spot than a reddit thread.
I have mixed ideas about this. r/bookclub is actually pretty awesome, and it almost seems to defeat the purpose of reddit to not use its message boards.

I'm not too sure. Yes the idea of a r/bookclub is awesome but looking at those discussion posts, the average comments seems to be 10 tops. Would moving it here be able to generate more discussions? Or perhaps not moving it but maybe doing like a co-bookclub? Having the primary thread in reddit and then maybe more extensive things here?
Thoughts?
I'll add the books we're currently reading to this group and see if that entices more people to read the books.
A book? Well, I just got done reading "Special Topics in Calamity Physics" and was going to offer that, but then I saw you described it as "retarded" so i am guessing that's out.FWIW, I enjoyed the book. As a former English major I enjoyed the overlay an meta-ness of the approach. Added bonus: a traditional coming-of-age book mixed with a who done it.
