I think the Color Purple was robbed in losing to Out of Africa. It's such a great film!
I can't stand The English Patient. The only reason why I watched it was because it won the Best Picture award. So disappointed!
As for Crash, I think Brokeback Mountain, Munich, or Good Night & Good Luck were much better films. But what do I know? :)

I agree with those. Also, a couple of Scorsese pictures that should have won; Goodfellas in 1990 instead of Dances with Wolves, and Raging Bull in 1980 instead of Ordinary People.

I agree about "The Color Purple" losing to “Out of Africa.” Africa is a very good film, but Purple has a timeless quality to it. And that’s another time that a Steven Spielberg film lost the Best Picture Oscar to a somewhat lesser film. The other time I remember was “Saving Private Ryan” losing to “Shakespeare in Love.”
I have to agree with you about Saving Private Ryan and Shakespeare in Love, Jean. Nothing against Shakespeare in Love, as it is an excellent movie, but I certainly thought Saving Private Ryan was more deserving of Best Picture.
