Five, or, as far I have managed to get through the series before now.

Bump, bump for July!!

IDK how much of this is a spoiler for this book, so just in case:

(view spoiler)[There are some points in the series where Count Olaf's appearances at the Baudelaire's newest home really confuses me. I know the series has a recurring theme (and joke) that adults are useless, but there are just some of his disguises where I can't help but wonder how his plans for the kids don't immediately raise red flags with their guardians, despite how useless they're supposed to be. There are also points, like in The Ersatz Elevator (with Jerome, not Esmé obviously), where I wonder why their guardians don't believe them when they point out Olaf, especially considering he's followed them SO many places and they would know exactly what he looks like.

This book in particular, how would Nero be okay with him pulling the Baudelaires out at night and making them run all those laps, even with the phony baloney excuse about his orphan program? I know he didn't really seem to care much for them and was willing to hand them off to Olaf after they failed out, but it just really makes me wonder. (hide spoiler)]

Haha, maybe I just have too many thoughts for a children's book.
