First published in 1726, Jonathan Swift's, Gulliver's Travels, was immediately successful and has remained continuously in print ever since. Many adaptations for children and adults have been created including movies and comic books.

Consisting of four parts, the first two, Voyage to Lilliput and Voyage to Brobdingnag are the most well-known of the four.

Linda (lapia) | 46 comments Sadly, Gulliver's Travels is the only book I've read of Jonathan Swift's life work. Looking forward to this booking.

Gulliver's Travels is a good beginning. After we finish, try A Modest Proposal.

Linda (lapia) | 46 comments Thanks. Why do you suggest A Modest Proposal. Can you elaborate?

A Modest Proposal is one of his most famous satirical pieces, written as a solution to 'The Irish Problem'. It's shocking and even though extreme, it's the kind of thinking men resort to when they lack compassion and understanding.

Linda (lapia) | 46 comments Thanks, Jim. I've put it on my list.

Kyle It's quite an odd coincidence. In about a week, my library is going to host a couple professors who are going to be giving a public lecture on Jonathan Swift, and Gulliver's Travels, and the historical period it was written. Such a perfect read choice for this month, apparently. :)
