~grin~ Me too. I became attached to this task & when we saw that the tasks submitted by finishers were too similar to the other potential moderator's task, I nominated this one.

Yes, it does.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (shelved 36 times)]
Along Came a Spider by James Patterson (31)
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin (18)
The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (8)
Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon (7)
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle (7)
The Little Friend by Donna Tartt (7)
I also noticed one of the group reads on the list: The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux (7)

For instance I was looking up The Stranger Beside Me: Ted Bundy The Shocking Inside Story by Ann Rule
So is it shelved under criminals, serial murders, biography?

Scroll down to the "location" section:
https://catalog.brooklynpubliclibrary...
For this book the location is "Central SST Non-Fic" and the call # (Dewey decimal #) is 364.1523 R.
If it was shelved in the mystery section, the word mystery would show up either in the location column or the call # column, as seen for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo:
https://catalog.brooklynpubliclibrary...

But you can always come to the help thread if you're unsure.

I am not sure what you are asking. You can search books by "call #" in the BPL catalog. Searches default to "keyword" but call # is an option in the drop-down box. Once you have found a specific non-fiction book, if you click on the call number in the results, it will display all the books with the same call #. (But they seem to be experiencing difficulties with that function this morning).
If you want to find out what the category/subject is for a specific call #, I usually google Dewey decimal & the first three digits of the call number (ie Dewey decimal 364)

Sorry. I think I am one of the few members here that is not a librarian or English major and somehow that info never sunk in. I am good at giving shots and drawing blood and distracting kids when I do it. (smile)

I can't remember half the time what the call numbers mean either. But I've learned that most of the time I don't need to know, as I don't browse by that number in a catalog. You can, however, if you find a book that looks interesting, but not quite right. The thing with this task is that it has to be on the GR list.

Yes, if you're checking a book that is on the GR list that has been shelved at least 5 times.

Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood
Secrets of Eden by Chris Bohjalian
Storm Front by Jim Butcher
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown (I still haven't read this one!)
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
White Oleander by Janet Fitch
Lord of the Flies by William Golding (Lexile: 770L)
An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser (Lexile: 1240L)
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith (Lexile: 960L)
The Dark Half by Stephen King
The Door to December by Dean Koontz
Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith by Jon Krakauer
A Feast for Crows [#4] by George R.R. Martin (the previous 3 also fit)
Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire
Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk
Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult
Feet of Clay by Terry Pratchett
The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston
Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
The Weight of Water by Anita Shreve
Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
Thérèse Raquin by Émile Zola

Yes.

And thanks to all that are posting lists -- very helpful!

Great! Thanks.

Now, I'm trying to read through them and looking forward to getting to book 3 since I'm now refusing to watch the new season until I read the book. ;)

hehehe, the body count will definitely go up in the third one.

Yes, that book qualifies for this task.

It is shelved 6 times as murder. When I first looked for a book to fit this task it seemed to fit because the BPL entry I looked at hasn't shelved the book as mystery. But then I listened to the book and it seemed very mystery-like to me so I decided to double-check the BPL-entry and found this last entry (one out of four) for the book that shelves the book in the mystery section.
So what entry counts to determine the shelving at BPL? Do you look at the first entry that comes up on the search result page or is the book disqualified once any entry mentions a myster-shelving?
I don't really mind either way, I'll easily find another book for the task; just want to check whether the book works before posting it.

The Moonstone is on our list and you can read it for this task. It's quite possible my eyes were glazing over when I compiled the list and missed that one shelving.
ETA: Too early. This is on the canon, so disregard my comment about YA and Lexile. All styles allowed.

Here are some new ones that fit has 5 shelving as "murder" and no BPL listing as "mystery"
Phantom Evil by Heather Graham
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
11/22/63 by Stephen King
The Dinner by Herman Koch

Would this qualify for 10.6? Here's the BPL link:

Thanks!

I don't see a mystery listing at BPL and it's shelved 10 times as murder. Looks good to go, Camille. Enjoy!
