Marjory | 8 comments What is your favorite retelling of Sleeping Beauty? For me, I'd have to say "The Wide Awake Princess" by E.D. Baker.

Katie (katiedun) Thornspell by Helen Lowe was very good. The prince is actually the main character while the sleeping princess floats around the edges of the story.

ohhh i am totally in love with all sleeping beauty retellings!! i mean i havn't read all that many but jenni james has a really different take on it!! Wide awake princess was also fantastic!! i absolutely LOVED IT!!

now that the movie is coming out i'm guessing we might see a couple more of these... i also enjoy 12 dancing princess retellings because that gives each character different plot lines!!

Danielle | 48 comments I've only ever read two as far as I remember, but I really like both. The first is from Gail Carson Levine's fractured fairy tales series, Princess Sonora and the Long Sleep. It is goofy and cute and makes fun of some of elements of the original fairy tale like how the princess had so many talents given to her by the fairies, so she is really smart and knows the answer to every thing.
The other is Beauty Sleep: A Retelling of "Sleeping Beauty" by Cameron Dokey for the Once Upon a Time series. This one has an interesting twist with how the one hundred year sleep works.
I recommend both and look forward to reading some of the other retellings suggested.

Oh yes I am!! I cannot wait!! I feel like it can't come soon enough... I just wish they made her a little older... They made sleeping beauty way too young... But lets see how the story unfolds

Stories & Verse (storiesverse) | 9 comments I have not read the story yet but I recently added The Wide-Awake Princess to my -to read- bookshelf. It was on my recommendation list for a long time and I finally added it.

I haven't heard that it was coming out as a movie this year, but I am not surprised if it does; My first impression was that it would soon become a Disney movie.

Shereen Vedam | 50 comments The Wide-Awake Princess sounds a little like the Disney movie, Frozen. Will have to add it to my to-read pile.
Loved Frozen.

Thanks. I watched the trailer. I thought you were talking about a Disney movie for "The Wide Awake Princess" The Wide-Awake Princess (Wide-Awake Princess, #1) by E.D. Baker

Maleficeint does look quite dark and epic. I would definitely go out to see it.

Kerri (lilspringonion) I also enjoyed The Wide Awake Princess. Thornspell is on my 'To Read' shelf along with The Castle Behind the Thorns by Merrie Haskell. Has anyone read that one?

Spindle's End by Robin McKinley is a also a good version. I love her fairytale retelling.

Hi, I have never read The Castle Behind Thorns but I have read The Wide-Awake Princess. I didn't like "The Wide Awake Princess" - I thought it was too forced, combining so many famous fairytales into one story. There also seemed to be a comedic element to it... I am not good at comedic romance...

If you are familuar with popular fairytales it might seem forced and jumbled but if you are not I guess you might find it interesting.

Katie (katiedun) I enjoyed Thornspell! It wasn't perfect but was quite unique. Spindle's End was pretty amazing. I will go look up The Castle Behind the Thorns right now! I had not seen that one before!
