Party of Five
Hi Everyone! I look forward to getting to know you all as the challenge progresses. So, does anyone have suggestions for a team name? And who wants to be team captain?
Good morning, I am so excited to get this challenge started. I have never bbeen a team captain and not real sure I would know what to do so I will take my name out of the running for that. Looking forward to getting to know everyone as we tackle this challenge
Morning ladies. Looking forward to this challenge should be fun. I would take myself out of the running for team captain as I learned in last team challenge I'm unable to provide links for reviews and another team member had to step up for me. I can help whoever is captain with other stuff though if/as necessary. I'm in Florida on vacation this week so I'll try to check as I can - will be back in Chicago on Sat.
I have been trying to think up ideas for the team name but I haven't had any luck so far- has anyone else had more luck?Carrie, do you want to be team captain since Shelly and Melissa don't want the role? If not, I am willing to give it a try but I should mention that I would be posting at slightly different times to everyone else since I live in Australia(and there is quite a time difference between there and the USA).
I believe that the team captain gathers the info each week from the team thread(eg. how many points each team member has earned and what book they read) and posts all that and a link to each member's post from this thread in the Tv Guide thread as soon as the team has finished their books for the week.
I'm terrible at names but this is a TV game so maybe Hawaii Five-O Or maybe:
Five Alive
Five Watchers
Can't think of anything else.
A TV Show name for the team name is a great idea Melissa! I really quite like Carrie's suggestion of Party of Five.
Show is up!!Week 1: As the world turns 1956
Shelf: Serial
Cover: Planet or stars
Plot: Family drama, faked a death, openly gay character, dealing with a rape,
Title: World Turns
Name: Hughes, Montgomery, Ryan, Snyder, Stewart or Walsh
Setting: Published 1956 or Set in Illinois
As The World Turns title Sequences
I wanted to stop in a say that I will be helping Lizz and Dawn answer questions :)Happy Reading Everyone!
I have a question, what exactly are we looking for during the title sequence? For example, I have a book with stars on the cover so would that work for both cover and title sequence since there are stars in the title sequence?
tentatively I am going to read
. it is on the Seriel shelf, the cover has stars, and it contains family drama. Not sure if I can count the stars on the cover for title sequence yet or not.Just making sure i am looking at all this right before I start reading.
I'm thinking
Setting, cover (they said moon is fine) and shelf = 9 points. Will have to read it to see if I can get plot.
Shelly, you get 2 points for matching something about the title sequence to the cover of your book so yes stars on the cover would get you two points. Shelf=1 pt
Cover=2 pt
Plot= 3 pt
So that would make it a 6 point book.
I will be reading A World I Never Made for this week. So that should be 4 points for title, and 3 points for plot (someone fakes their death in the book) and 5 points for character (Lorraine Ryan is a character in the book). Please let me know if I have missed something.
Just found out it can the name can be the authors name.So going with that there is
Setting and name for 11 points.
Does the name just need to be mentioned in the book? I have a book with openly gay character and one of the names mentioned....
~Melissa~ wrote: "Does the name just need to be mentioned in the book? I have a book with openly gay character and one of the names mentioned...."The openly gay character could be a secondary character, but crucial to the plot.
The name needs to be a main character hero, heroine, antagonist.

Thanks ladies! I look again when we get home tonight. I know I have some paperbacks set in Illinois on my shelves. We'll see what I can come up with
Remote Control ChallengeWeek 1: As the World Turns
Total Points: 7
finished 3/10.Review - A man gets notified that his daughter, who he hasnt seen in years and hasn't talked to her in months, had passed away. When he arrives in Paris to claim the body he is given a suicide note that was written by his daughter. Eventually we discover that she has faked her death.
This book started out slow and never really sped up any. The story was pretty good, but the characters were not well developed, and the story just never really went anywhere.
I gave this book **
Plot - character fakes her own death

Review:You know when I first started reading this I was thinking 'okay, lets do this, lets get this party started' We have Leah who at 24 is a virgin, no big deal. Her dad was a lousy jerk who left her mom so she doesn't really care for relationships. She meets Rhett, a Dom who wants to train her.
Then as the story moves on, I'm finding I just want the story to move on. I'm sick of Leah. I'm sorry but I couldn't connect to her. Rhett I could handle, for awhile, but then things kinda got a bit out of hand and well I'm over him too.
I can see why people like it and don't get me wrong I didn't hate it. I didn't mind it, I found myself glued to the book.

Ladies - I've finished (3/9)a book with an openly gay character but nothing else to tie it to anything else. Otherwise I'm currently reading a book with a moon on the cover and has a lawyer (read in another thread that you could have a doctor or lawyer as this was not a soap I watched at all, lol) that may or may not be a large part of the plot. Will probably finish this book by Thurs. I can't tell yet. This weeks tv show was not good for me- hopefully the others will work better with what I have.I can post either book - any thoughts?

Plot ~ Main character Phoebe is a rape victim 3 pts
Setting ~ Chicago 6pts
Total pts: (at least) 9
Not sure this will work for Title too ~ Series is: Chicago Stars will check with Dawn/Lizz and let you know
Review: It has been a couple of years since I've read this book. Still love it. Loved Phoebe's bimbo-esque character and Dan's typical male- jock personalities. Always a fun read. This isn't my favorite of the series but a good beginning to this series. My fave is Nobody's Baby but Mine ~ hilarious! I think I'm going to have to get these all again from the library and re-read them.
Carrie wrote: "I just updated the little list I started, I'll change your total if it gets approved. :)"Sounds good ~ I'm hoping next week is easier...at least for me this one was hard, lol
Yeah it was hard for me too, lol this was the one show I was really dreading to be called, and of course first one picked.
Carrie wrote: "I just updated the little list I started, I'll change your total if it gets approved. :)"Bummer - it has to be the Title of the show for it to count. Just 9 pts for me.
Better than the 3 it would have been for the Rock Chick book though and the other book I'm reading I don't think the lawyer plays a big enough part.

Setting: Chicago
Cover: Moon
Plot: Family Drama-(view spoiler)
Review: It was an excellent contuination of the Chicagoland Vampires series. However, the ending of the novel leaves it at a painfully cliffhanger that although resolved in the next book does leave readers wondering about the direction of the series.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Sorry everyone for taking so long to finish reading for this week but I have been really busy lately and haven't had as much time as I would like to do some reading.
