Thanks for sharing that Peg - very interesting. I read the book about a year ago and I liked it. However, there isn't much more I can say without spoiling it =).
A Monster Calls is one of the best books I have ever read. I hope many of you read it and love it as much as I did.
What a great book! It isn't actually a collaboration. It is based on an idea of Siobhan Dowd but she died before writing it. Some asked Patric Ness to write it according to Siobhans' writing style but he refused. After reading the idea though, a new story formed in his mind and he asked permission to write this one.
I guess I better get to reading this so I can participate. It was a nomination for another group I'm in for February but didn't make it through and after reading the synopsis of it I just HAD to read it!
I started this book and so far it is very engaging. Looking forward to seeing some spoilers when I am done.
I've been loving this book, although some parts of it are tough to read. I'm thankful for this group, as without it, it's unlikely that I would have found and read this book. Thanks,
Jamie

I just finished the book and gave it 5 stars. I will admit that I cried like a baby and I don't cry very often. I would have never read this if it was not recommended here. Thanks for a great book.
It was a good read, more suited to a younger audience I think, but again I'M wouldn't either if it wasn't recommended here.
I am so glad everyone is enjoying this so much! This is the first book that has ever been selected that I nominated so how exciting is it that everyone is LOVING it? I can't wait to finish it!
It was a nomination that didn't pass in another group. The members don't nominate but the moderator nominated 3 books and you can vote on them! Once I read the description I knew I had to read it
Wow! I had a sizable lump in my throat as I came to the last page of this book. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. A great read!
I am behind on this one. I got it yesterday and read about half of it. My goodness is it beautiful and sad.
Finished. Very Very sad but very good. I am going to have to read something light and silly after this one.
I started it but got side tracked! I need to get back on track! I had lost my library loan but just got it back! Leigh, that makes me very interested in finishing it!

Dowd had undertaken at least one more children's novel before her death, about a young boy coming to terms with his mother's terminal illness. "She had the characters, a detailed premise, and a beginning. What she didn't have, unfortunately, was time".Template:(Patrick Ness) She had discussed it and contracted to write it with editor Denise Johnstone-Burt at Walker Books, who also worked with Patrick Ness, author of the acclaimed Chaos Walking trilogy. Walker arranged for Ness to write the story; later, Walker and Ness arranged for Jim Kay to illustrate it; and A Monster Calls (May 2011) was published before Ness and Kay met. In 2012 it won both the Carnegie Medal (Ness) and the companion Kate Greenaway Medal (Kay) as the year's best children's book published in the U.K., a double-award unique in more than fifty years.[8][9][10] (hide spoiler)]
