Discuss your favorite werewolves and what you think of them

message 2: by Kyla (new)

Kyla (kyla_) I've always had a fascination for the transformation of man becoming wolf, it's breathtaking <3

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

It can be a little gruesome too. In Twilight, for example, its a fairly easy transition. In the Vampire Diaries its incredibly violent

message 4: by Kyla (new)

Kyla (kyla_) In some books like Blood and Chocolate, it gives a very vivid description of the transformation too, you check it out!!! It's a very good read.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I will have to do that :)

message 6: by Kyla (new)

Kyla (kyla_) Tell me how you like it!!! :)

message 7: by Karla (new)

Karla Rades (karlosalis) I like professor lupin

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I love him :)

message 9: by Kyla (new)

Kyla (kyla_) Ha ha lol So do I!

message 10: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) For movies Dog Soldiers is probably my favourite werewolves. That and the original The Howling.

message 11: by Kyla (new)

Kyla (kyla_) The Howling was a good movie...... but the graphics were horrible!

Kaine Andrews (kaineandrews) | 75 comments I honestly think the Reverend in Cycle of the Werewolf has got to be near the top of the list for me. His sneaking suspicions and eventual confirmation of his nature were immensely entertaining to me. The fact that he's an old school werewolf - hunt, kill, eat, sleep without any of that "Oh, I'm a monster!!!" wailing that's so prevalent these days is just a bonus.

I found the werewolves on Buffy very entertaining ("Oz is a werewolf!" "Long story." "Got bit." "Apparently not that long.") and they actually presented some more interesting questions than most modern werewolf fiction seems to bother with - Oz's torment, again without the "I'm a monster!" whining, about how much of him is the wolf and how much is him (and if there's even really a difference) was well done - and the look was interesting.

I was also a fan of The Howling. Yes, the special effects are terrible - and how I'd love to see it done up "right" now - but the core of it was immensely entertaining. Until the sequels started bringing in were-kangaroos. Ugh.

And for the oldie-but-goodie (that most people seem to never have heard of) folks should check out Strieber's The Wolfen. A bit different (and more in line with the old-old school legends) and an interesting read.

Madeleine (crazyrandomhappenstance) Wolf from Scarlet. I love threatening strength that could easily physically harm you. I have issues, I know. It's kind of sexy that a character requires so much self control and compassion to keep you safe, despite the part of themselves they can't fight. Wolf was gentle and didn't want to hurt anyone. He really fought to keep Scarlet safe from himself. that's the scaring thing, the evil is a part of you. And wolves are just pretty damn cool.

Parker (parkerlewis) | 1 comments I love all things werewolves! Vamps and zombies are cool too, but werewolves are my thing. Don't know why? Anybody got any cool read ecommendations for me?

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't read anything about werewolves persay lately, but A tale of Red Riding by Neo Edmund is pretty good.

Jackie - Fire & Ice Book Reviews (jackiefireicebookreviews) Wish I got my copy LOL

Jackie - Fire & Ice Book Reviews (jackiefireicebookreviews) Better luck next time

message 19: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) I always liked the classic werewolves from the old movies. Yes they are beyond corny but they keep it simple and the terror people show them is hilarious given it just looks like a really hairy man. Also anyone ever see The Wolfman with Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro? Good movie and excellent special effects and story of the werewolf.

message 20: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) When a full moon comes out so does this story
About a creature whose tactics are beyond gory
Howls can be heard from miles away
And at night they arise to come out and play
Lurking and looking for a tasty treat
It senses heat and is craving some meat
It’s fangs as sharp as a kitchen knife
Hunting down people taking life after life
Don’t be frightened they can smell when your scared
They can catch you off guard when your least prepared
What was once a man is now no more
Not just clothes but skin tissue also tore
And tearing things to pieces is what it loves to do
So be very careful or the werewolves will find you

『ᴡɪᴄᴋʟɪɴɢ ᴛʀᴀsʜ ● ɢᴏᴏᴅʙʏᴇ』 (wickling) | 31 comments I ABSOLUTELY LOVE werewolves! I <3 wolves as an animal, and werewolves are just my personal favorite of any creature!

I dislike the Disney tv show, Wolfblood, it did not meet what I expected, but it is a kid show....eh.

Animal shifters appear in nearly all mythology, but Werewolves have to be one of the best. So much lore behind them! XD

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't even know Disney did a show like that. I know they ruined vampires though with that "my babysitter is a vampire" thing

message 25: by Piia (new)

Piia Bredenberg | 5 comments Werewolves are awesome. I like to think of them as the great white sharks of the forest :D

I'm just about to finish the revision on the second book in my Victorian dark fantasy series, and it's all about werewolves (and circus freaks and nuns...)
The werewolves I prefer are of the bi-pedal monstrous kind. Old school, before they all became lap-dogs, misunderstood heroes and love-interests for soft-headed female characters.

The Dog Soldiers is hands down the best werewolf movie I've seen. If you love werewolves and haven't seen it, check it out.
I can only imagine what they could have achieved with a slightly bigger budget.
There was supposed to be a sequel, but I don't think they ever made it.

The next supernatural species I'm going to ruin for everybody: vampires.
I swore I'd never write about vampires, because they have become about as scary as an Anne Geddes photo. (Ok, I admit, some of those babies are genuinely scary.)

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

hahahahaha. Anne Geddes... I agree. They have been completely de-scaritized. (Ha! I just made up a word. >:)) As far as werewolves there are still some instances where they are on the creepy side. Hemlock grove is an example
