Hello :) First topic open for discussion - please say hello and introduce yourself!
i started this group because i found so many other groups too confusing to follow.
Please feel free to post a topic on anything you like! Looking forward to hearing what everyone is reading, what everyone is watching and anything else you want to talk about :)
I'm a Mum of 3 aged 15, 12 and 7 - all abit of a handful to be honest so this is to be my great escape!!

I'm Tracy & I'm a SAHM of 2, ages 7 & 5, living in West Texas with my hubby. I had fallen off the reading wagon for awhile, (why, I'm not sure) but I got a nook for Christmas a couple of years ago, and now I hardly ever put it down! I do still love physically holding a book I'm reading, but the nook just makes it so easy! I also have a kindle, and I've recently discovered that you can check out e-books from the library! JACKPOT! I am also a TV/movie-aholic, as well. Hope to meet some great new people through a love of books & reading!

I love to read and I read a lot, but I like to read whatever I like whenever I like, so I don't join group reads usually. Yeah...my first and only Carnivale in Brazil.

Have not made it to Brazil yet. Maybe 2017? But I believe Carnivale is almost as good as Moomba.

I will be glad to " chit chat " with you all! I live in Richmond VA. I am over 50 :-) and love to read cozy mysteries am thrillers an some times Lit Fiction. I have just finished reading "The Violets of March" great. Love story. I usually do not read love stories but this one was good. I am now reading an book for my Church Bookclub called "The Aviotors Wife". After that one I will get back to my favorite type of book "mysteries"The Aviator's Wife

Ah yes! Hi Kate glad you are enjoying those books! I get in moods where I read thrillers and then I tire of them and want to read a love story or a book with no "blood and guts". Do you go thru reading spells like that?

Defiantly:) if i read a good thriller i keep on that.theme for a few books but if i read a love story.that really touches me i find it hard to get into another. I'm a little bit thriller mad at the minute..a change is due lol

Gosh! I thought I was the only one up this early! Or are you on a different time zone? I am EST - east coast US. Those books are real thrillers!! I cannot read Steven King - too scary! I did order " Still Missing" from Amazon and will read it soon. Thanks

haha - I'm over in England so it's 9.30 in the morning here..not so early :) Wednesday is my day off work so i get to catch up on stuff around the house while all the kids are at school.

I don't mind a good scare in a book - i like a good ghost story :)

Kate you can see my review of it. Others have said it made a good movie. If I were u I would rent the movie.

I just finished reading It was a nice wintery quick read. Not a scary ghost story though.
Now i need a scare for Halloween!

The temperatures over here in England have suddenly dropped and I'm feeling the chill! Brrrrrrr! Not looking forward to a long cold winter! What's it like where you all are? You know us Brits are obsessed with the weather!

Here in the US - east coast it has now turned a bit warm again, about 70 degrees today. We are coming out of a week of rain and chilly weather so we are welcoming today's weather!

It is pretty mild for October in New York, but I am absolutely freezing right now!! We moved our offices at work to a different part of the same building, but the building is old and it doesn't heat or cool consistently throughout the floors. My co-workers and I are sitting here with scarves and gloves on because the all the air on this part of the floor is directed at us. I feel like I'm sitting in Siberia!
I brought in some hot chocolate to share today and I'm sipping it while I work.

I am now reading "The Circle" by Dave Eggers it is really good! It is fiction about a large company that developed software programs to track everything you do, buy and say. It promotes cameras located everywhere to see everything you do! Is this good for society or bad? While some may think this company a bit far fetched - I don't!! I worked for a company like this!! A real page turner!!

My office is alot like that Terry - either freezing cold or boiling hot!! I don't know how they expect us to get any work done ..that's my excuse anyway lol

There are cameras pretty much everywhere you go in Britain i think! and we all have these supermarket loyalty cards which basically track what we buy, how much we spend, how often we shop! It's all a bit 1984 Big Brother for me. My Husband has a dream of living in the woods in a little cabin and living off the land...sometimes i agree with him but i also love my home comforts too much...and as England isn't exactly a very big country i don't know where he thinks he's going to set up camp lol

I had to wave my little 7 year old girl off to school camp this morning - 2 nights :( Missing her already ...feel like i lost an arm!!

I just love this quote!

It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas, for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry and in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by god, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does.

She has to give it a shot somehow.

Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.

Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who read understand that all things must come to end, but that you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two.

Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilight series.

If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are.

You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.

You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots.

Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.

Or better yet, date a girl who writes. ”
