2 guys go mtn. climbing - S. America maybe? - in a giant alpine wilderness. They have a bad fall, one is lost in a crevice, the other makes it out thinking hes dead. I think it turns out the guy gets out of the crevice all busted up and makes it back, but just barely.. At least 15 years old, maybe from the Sixties or Seventies?

Hi. I know some climbing books. How sure are you of any of these clues? Are you positive it is a true story? Are you sure it was South America? Or did it just look snowy? The Alps are mountains in Europe (Italy and Switzerland mostly).
Was it a big long read or a short book? Were there photos or drawings or maps?
Were the two men, caucasian?
Found it! Thanks anyway. Touching the Void. Andes mtns. 2004. Google brought me tohttp://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/m...
where I recognized the authors name - Joe Simpson - and found it here:
