I moved all the previously suggested books to a new Suggested Shelf that will help keep better track of possible titles.

Anyone can make new suggestions below and we'll get them added to the shelf.

Kevin (kevineagan) | 11 comments Just a general update: Amazon bought Goodreads yesterday. So, brace yourself for changes...not sure if this is good or bad yet. We'll see.

Adding Reconstructing Amelia to the Suggested Shelf. It is in the vein of Gone Girl. Girl goes missing. We peice together what exactly happened. Plot twists. Mayhem.

Nicole | 4 comments Someone recommended The Presidents Club to me the other day. It observes the relationships between the Presidents over the years - who are friends, who hate each other, etc.

Fiction:

"Dear Life" by Alice Munro.

Just read a piece suggesting it as a good book club book. It is 4 closely related short stories, something we haven't done. Could be good, especially for those who can't make it through a whole book :)

Amanda nudges "We need to talk about Kevin" for a fiction pick.

message 9: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Nash | 48 comments It's an intense one. Nicole and I have read it.

Katie (katieeagan) | 7 comments I loved we need to talk about Kevin.

Amanda wants Sex at Dusk added to the list. It is a repudiation of Sex at Dawn. She's even volunteered to lead discussion!

One of our favorite patrons just returned and raved about Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.

It sounds similar to 11/22/63 in that the main character struggles with her actions impacting known outcomes.

4 new non-fiction titles added to our Suggested Shelf (mostly courtesy of Michelle).

David and Goliath
Quirkology
The Tell
Snoop

Hopefully they produce "Quiet" type discussions.

message 16: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Nash | 48 comments I want to read "The Tell" too.

"The Tell" is not going well. Dry, Dry, Dry. Maybe it will get better.

message 20: by LuAnn (new)

LuAnn | 61 comments Just so you know, I'm "super cultured" as well.

message 21: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Nash | 48 comments Aren't we all? I mean I totally bought the book in the museum gift shop to see what all the fuss was about...going to read it while I wait to see it.

LuAnn | 61 comments Larry Brown has suggested: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

"The look at other countries' ways of raising children and education, etc. compared with ours is a real eye opener, not only for parents, but for all of us who are interested in comparative social trends. We do some things well and a bunch very badly. These issues have a real impact on how our country suceeds or fails in the future. "

Sounds interesting. Less than 300 pages too :)

message 24: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 4 comments Is anyone interested in "The Circle" by Dave Eggers for a fiction choice. I've been wanting to read it forever, but haven't picked it up yet.

"a captivating story of one woman’s ambition and idealism that soon becomes a heart-racing novel of suspense, raising questions about memory, history, privacy, democracy, and the limits of human knowledge."
