Tell us who you like to read? What is your favorite historical time period? American? European?

message 3: by Suzan (new)

Suzan Tisdale (suzantisdale) | 33 comments I myself am partial to Scottish Historicals and Regency. ;o) But my favorites are anything with hunky Highlanders in them. There is just something about a man in a kilt, with that Scottish brogue....I find it quite sexy! ;o)

Ahhh, yes. The accent just does me in, too.

message 5: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Davis | 2 comments I absolutely adore historical romances set in Elizabethan times, but I'll read just about anything.

message 6: by Elsa (new)

Elsa Centilli | 1 comments I started reading historical romance books when a friend told me to read a book by Rose Gordon. After that I was hooked I read as many books from her as I could then I found author Rachel Van Dykens and Tarah Scott. Another author that is really good is Natasha Blackthorne.

message 7: by Suzan (new)

Suzan Tisdale (suzantisdale) | 33 comments I love anything by the following authors: Julie Garwood -- her Scottish Historicals are beautiful and had me laughing til I cried!
Carmen Caine
Laurin Wittig
Emery Lee/Victoria Vane
Stephanie Laurens
Katie MacAlister
Amanda Forester
Maya Banks

There you have my top favorites! ;o)

message 8: by Missy (new)

Missy | 8 comments I think I might have too many to list. But since my main objective for joining this group is to find new authors and books to read it would be best to state what I like. I guess my favorites would be:
Lisa Kleypas Jennifer Ashley
Tessa Dare. Liz Carlyle
Lorretta Chase. Elizabeth Hoyt
Sabrina Jefferies
Sylvia Day
I like steamier novels a lot! ;)

message 9: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn Knight My favorites are Judith McNaught & Diane Gabaldon for historical romance.

From Missy -- Did you read Nobel Intentions by Katie MacAlister? I've bought about 6 copies for friends and family. Funniest book I think I've ever read.

No worries, hon :-)
Hugs,
Krystal

I love the steamier novels too! Jennifer Ashley is one of my favs

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Love Jennifer Ashley's historicals!!! Ian MacKenzie was the best by far!

Lisa Adams | 7 comments Okay, this is for all the Historical author friends writing out there. As I write historical also, I know that language can be an issue. Wording is extremely important in historical novels. So, a friend of mine on twitter @cairnrodrigues showed me to a site today that I just felt I had to share.

http://www.etymonline.com/index.php

This site, can give you the year a word came into existence and its meaning origin of the time. Amazing site! Try it out!

message 14: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey Brookes (lindseybrookes) | 6 comments I write contemporary romance, but read historical. My favs are books with Highlanders in them. I write during the day and some in the evening and then treat myself to reading Kindle books when I go to bed. I also listen to a lot of historical audiobooks while driving somewhere or cleaning(ugh) house.

Missy | 8 comments I listen to books to and from work, while setting up at work, cooking and cleaning. I listen to text to speech though. Audio books are just too slow for me. Maybe if they came with the text as well, so I could do either I might try one again, but when I'm finally able to sit or lay back, I want to " read" not listen. I devour books and my mind visualizes better when I read than when I listen.

I write and I'm an avid reader of highlander books with a bit of time travel at times. I love a great historical....no matter the time period! :)

I write historicals too Lisa! Thanks for sharing that great resource. While I'm writing sometimes, I find myself googling the appropriate language. This is great!

Kathryn, I'm waiting for one of those moments in my life that I can sit down uninterrupted and start the Outlander!! I've heard some wonderful things about it!

Great list Missy! Sabrina Jefferies actually is part of my RWA chapter here in NC! Even I swoon when she walks into a room ;)

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I write historicals. My favs are the highlanders, of course. If I can get a kilt in the storyline....I'll do it! I sometimes like them with a time travel twist too. However, I'll read any historical. I just love that in those eras there were a whole set of roles to relationships. Definitely makes for some conflict ;) I love to read Paula Quinn, Margaret Mallory, Monica McCarty and Julie Garwood.....and just too many more to name. However, our own Suzan Tisdale and Kathryn Loch have some amazing highlander books.....that can't be put down until you read "The End" ;)

Ahhhh Suzan!!! Is there really anything better than a man with a Scottish brogue in a kilt. I think not ;)

Elsa, I've been wanting to read Rachel Van Dyken just because her covers look amazing! I think I have a couple of hers in the TBR pile :)

Lisa Adams | 7 comments Angela, here's one I can't wait to come out. Highlander and Time Travel. Due out April 9th, "My Highlander Cover Model" by Karyn Gerrard and published by Decadent Publishing. If this book is anything like her "My Vampire Cover Model" I'm positive it will be a GREAT read.

Sandra (sandraschwab) | 7 comments Thanks to the strange marketing of romance fiction in Germany, I came to romance relatively late and have been reading it only for the past 13 years. My introduction to the genre were historicals: one day I ventured into the corner with the brightly coloured covers in one of the English bookstores in Frankfurt, and picked up a book. It was A Rake's Vow by Stephanie Laurens, and after reading the novel I was hooked. :-)

Among my favourite historical authors are
Georgette Heyer
Kathleen Givens
Gaelen Foley
Teresa Medeiros
Julia Ross

I also love Julie Garwood. Right amount of humor and the heroines aren't so pitifully weak.

I have read those as well.....I cried like a baby!! So emotional touching!

message 40: by Janet (new)

Janet Gorden (janet_vangorden) I only just started reading regency romance. I really enjoyed The Marriage List by Dorothy McFalls. I do think though, after reading all the posts about hunky men with Scottish accents and kilts I will definitely have to look into some Scottish romances.

message 41: by Suzan (new)

Suzan Tisdale (suzantisdale) | 33 comments I like regency novels too! ;o) Some of my favorites are Emery Lee, Stephanie Laurens, Katie MacAllister, Lucinda Brant...probably way too many to list! ;o)

message 44: by Janet (new)

Janet Gorden (janet_vangorden) Thanks for the recommendations Angela. I am always looking for something new to read. It will be exciting to lose myself in a good Scottish romance.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Your very welcome. Now if your looking a Scottish romance with a bit of time travel that would be me ;) However, I loved Melissa Mayhue's series, as well as Veronica Wolff's

message 46: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Blair (sandysandyblairnet) | 3 comments I love (and thus write) Scotland-set historicals--often time-travels, but also love historicals set in England and Ireland. Two favorite Romance authors are Lorraine Heath (writing Victorian England) and Julie Garwood. I also enjoy fact-laden historical fictions by E. Rutherford and P. Gregory.
