All things contemporary go here!!!

Ilsa Madden-Mills | 7 comments Hi! I'm Ilsa Madden-Mills and I write New Adult contemporary romance...getting ready to self-publish!

My MS is edited but I would still love to acquire more beta readers out there. Is anyone interested? We can trade off. :)

Some of the details: My new book is steamy and is about a girl who renounces her seemingly perfect life, setting herself on a course of self-destruction by pushing the limits with alcohol, drugs, and sex. She never expects to find her one true love.

DeLaine Roberts (delaine_roberts) | 5 comments I have learned the hard way about editing. Thereis no replacement fo beta or editing. I can suggest a great editor if you want a 2nd opinion. As far as a critique partner, I would be happy to help you.

DeLaine Roberts (delaine_roberts) | 5 comments See, it is for, not fo! I need to self edit better!

Ilsa Madden-Mills | 7 comments Hi DeLanie! I just read your bio where you already have your book published, but you are still editing? Wow, how do you do that! :) I think I have much to learn.

As far as editing goes, I've gotten a good rec's, but have a master's in English, so as far as syntax and grammar go, I think I have it...although I'm sure I've missed several little details. My teacher friend is currently doublechecking my editing.

It's the flow that I'm concerned about...you know how you get so close to a story and then it's hard to tell what the reader gets and what they don't? That's where I'm at. So, I'd love a critique. FYI, it is slightly steamy...are you okay with that?

BTW, I marked your book to read! :)

Ilsa

DeLaine Roberts (delaine_roberts) | 5 comments Steamy is just fine! I actually published my book without sending it out on beta. It was killed by reviews on editing. So, I now have it back in editing and will re-release a cirrected version in a few weeks.

I'm happy to take a look at yours for flow. Contact me at delainerobertsauthor@yahoo.com.

If your are looking for a side gig of editing or Proofreading, I know of someone wanting to hire freelancers.

Tell us who your favorite authors are? What is your favorite contemporary romance? What makes a contemporary really get to you? Are the characters more important or the storyline?

message 10: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kitresa) | 1 comments I just read Unquenched by Jorie Dakelle. It was pretty good. I felt like I was having a conversation with a friend trying to decide between two men.
What are you all reading? What should I read next?

I just finished Stuck on You by Heather Thurmeier! It was really good and I'm starting the next one called Falling For You.

Stuck on You was so awesome! I need to start Falling For you...really want to know Paige's story!

I have to have a good mix...I need great characters and a storyline... and my favorite characters right now seem to be jaded heroes...man oh man I love reading about how they come to life and change when they meet the heroine.

Sandra (sandraschwab) | 7 comments One of my absolutely favs in the contemporary genre is Sarah Mayberry. I particularly like the sexier titles she writes for Harlequin Blaze.

message 15: by Justine (new)

Justine Dell (JustineDell) | 20 comments I'm a HUGE fan of Nora Roberts. I tend to like her old stuff better than her new. I'm also in love with Lora Leigh (again her old stuff better than new). Maya Banks, Sylvia Day, Laurel Hamilton...really, there's not enough room here. LoL. I just love a good contemporary romance (well, ANY romance!)

I love, love, love her MacGregor titles! These were my introduction to Nora Roberts.

Justine Dell (JustineDell) | 20 comments OMG, ME TOO!!! The men in those books are just...awesome. And the family dynamic? Nailed it! It's one of the few series I've read more than once.

Her first title that I read was TRIBUTE and after that I was hooked! Good thing she had a lot of books, because I bought pretty much all of them and gobbled them up!

Oh yes! And they have big hands! *melts into a puddle* One of my favourites was Naomi & Ian's story in "The MacGregor Grooms". Just dug out the book and put it on my nightstand to read tonight. :-)

Justine Dell (JustineDell) | 20 comments *swoons* That was my favorite one, too! I think I'm going to have to dig those bad boys out again.

Janet Gorden (janet_vangorden) Just following the thread of comments... I really like Sylvia Day and I just read the first book of Kyra Davis' series The Stranger. I love all and any romance novels and will read pretty much anything, but in general I prefer the sweeter side rather than a lot of heavy drama. I read Forever Black and while I liked it, it took me longer than usual to finish. Looking through my Kindle Library, no one particular author stands out, I have such a random assortment that I have read.

message 25: by Janet (new)

Janet Gorden (janet_vangorden) I will have to check out Lora Leigh.

message 26: by Justine (new)

Justine Dell (JustineDell) | 20 comments Hey Janet!

Start with Lora's earlier stuff (like the Breed series)...her later stuff is getting pretty sloppy. She's writes more paranormal, but she does have some contemporary stories littered throughout. Enjoy!

Thanks Justine. I will be sure to check her out. I've been looking for something new to read.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 5 comments I adore Kristen Ashley, Tara Sivec, and Alice Clayton (at least what I've read so far)

I'm not as big of a fan of Sylvia Day... not quite sure why.

message 29: by Justine (new)

Justine Dell (JustineDell) | 20 comments Hey Alana!

Alice Clayton is wonderful. She's a fellow Omnific author and her Red Head Series (along with Wallbanger) are simply awesome. :-)

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 5 comments I haven't read the Redhead series yet, but I adored Wallbanger. I already have book one of the Redhead series, just trying to find time to squeeze it in

Leah Braemel | 5 comments I had the good fortune of meeting Lori Wilde this weekend. I've read a couple of her Blazes in the past but now I want to read more of her works. Anyone got any favorites of hers to suggest?
