Goodreads bought by Amazon

The official posting from the site's creators said that the site will remain independent, just under the Amazon umbrella. That would work very well for me since I read a lot on my Kindle and prefer reading on my Kindle actually... we'll see what happens...http://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/41...
Amazon is a profit making major corporation. They will now have access to my "To Read" shelf and the ability to bombard me with sales advertsing for those books as well as what they think I want to read. Reviews on Amazon on more geared for making a sale. They also have in the past censored many books due to opposition by some of their users. To my knowledge that has never happened here; indeed that's one of the features that drew me to this site. Time will tell, as you said.
My first reaction to this news is to think it is bad. It often feels to me that only writing they will not take down is the racist kill em all crap - but maybe that has changed. I will wait to see what happens. But I liked the small company feel of Goodreads so I'm not fully happy that it will soon be part of a "big" company that has to make "shareholders" happy above all other motives.
I'm also on Shelfari.com which is connected to Amazon. I don't find it bad.
I like the groups better here, but I like being able to edit book information on Shelfari.

I joined LibraryThing and am in the process of adjusitng to their site. I will continue to be a member here, but in the meantime I deleted ALL my book reviews and left only my star ratings.
I've never noticed one of my Shelfari reviews being on Amazon.
The only thing it does is recommendations.
