I've figured that it would be about 3 and a half chapters a day to finish in a month. I am rounding it up to 4, as it seems like a good number to read in a day. Most of us have complained that it's hard to stop at the number of chapters listed. If you want to read more or less than 4, it's your choice. I've thought of something for when we are discussing a book, especially one this big that not all of us have read. When you post your discussion post chapter numbers that you are referring to at the top of your post. That way we will know if there are spoilers that apply to us or not and we can skip reading your post until we've caught up.

i finished one of my previous books so i started this one up. there is a prologue before chapter one but not long. seems doable. can't wait, i hope i enjoy the book

Hi Tiff and all! I'm sorry I petered out after reading "The Scarlet Pimpernel," but I'd like to hippity hop into reading "The Di Vinici Code" with you guys. I hope you don't mind. If anyone has a problem with me jumping back in...please let me know as I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

I am only on chapter 2, I didn't get to read as much as I wanted last night. I hope to catch up tonight. However, I am taking my time reading it this time around. I have been highlighting places and works of art that I want to look up as I read. Last time I skimmed over some of it because it was a borrowed book.

Yesterday I noticed in my notes and highlights section, it gave me the option to see the highlights of people in my group....does anyone know what that is? I think as far as enhancing the discussion on this book, it would be nice to see notes and highlights that you guys are making. I'd read them at the end of each chapter. .....

i didn't think about that as i usually don't highlight so I'm not sure exactly how that will work but i woukd be willing to use that feature for this book to compare notes. I'm up to chapter eleven now.

I high light a lot. For this book, I've been highlighting works of art and places that I want to look up. I'll be liking them up tonight and posting here.

I'm only on chapter 3, but tonight is my reading night. As soon as I get my housework done.

It's been about 6 or 7 years since I read this and it's only coming back to me in bits. Which is kind of nice, it's like reading a new book.

What do you think of Opus Dei? In a way it reminds me of how Scientology is presented to us. Secretative, famous people that are members, people that renounce it, etc.

i am mot sure exactly what to think about them. you are correct in your statement but i am referring to how one second it seems like they do not believe the curator and other three bit then it seems like they do. which is it? i was told by a coworker that they will let us know but as of now they have me confused in that aspect.

i clearly see what they are doing but not why. not yet at least.

I'll be starting to reread The DaVinci Code this evening. I felt the need to reread Angels & Demons first and finished it. I've been having problems with my Paperwhite last night. I may be calling CS shortly.

I had the same thoughts about Opus Dei, Tiffany. They both seem to have cultish tendencies. I don't believe Scientology is into physical self-abuse, however.

Hopefully, I'll be caught up soon. :)

No, it takes place before The DaVinci Code.

***Spoiler Alert***I've read the first 18 chapters. The descriptions of the physical self-abuse are very disturbing to me. I love Sophie's idea for hiding the GPS tracker inside the bar of soap! It cleared the coast so they could escape. Fache is so overly aggressive that he's not very likeable.

@ Lenora, I agree with everything. I'm in chapter 20 and do not like Fache at all. He is so intent on doing what he wamts he doesn't really care about guiltiness. Sophie is a very interesting character

I finished The DaVinci Code. I enjoyed rereading it, but thought Angels & Demons was slightly better. I'll be happy to continue to discuss the story. I'm going to reread The Lost Symbol now. I'm hoping the new book coming out in May, The Inferno, is good. :)

What do you all think of Saunière and his way of hiding messages and the connections? I'm up to chapter

I thought it was very clever. He did an excellent job of training Sophie to think critically and solve problems.

OK...so I started reading on schedule and got side tracked by "Angelina's Bachelors" thinking that I could handle reading 2 books at the same time. Well...I got through chapter 8 of Da Vinci and ended up putting it aside to finish "Angelinas" but now that I am finished, I'll get back on track. So far, up to Ch. 8, it seems that there are many more questions than answers after finding the curator's body. Looking forward to finding out what it all means.

I really thought I was going to participate in this thread, but I'm afraid I'm too distracted by my shiny new birthday books and am going to immerse myself in them. Sorry, guys. Maybe the next discussion I'll be able to do a group read again.

I for one totally understand Denise. I would probably do the same has it been me.

I've been pretty immersed in the book when I am at home to read. I had a rehearsal dinner Friday, wedding Saturday, hockey game Sunday and now I am heading to a round of meetings and doctor's appointments. I am on chapter 50 something though.

I really like the book. I am highlighting things that I want to go and look up to see what is based on fact and what's fiction. I know from my art history classes that there are a lot of the things he talks about that are actually true. Or at least people out there believe. I've been racking my brain trying to remember what I can about Constantine. He was one of my favorite people to study. Interesting and powerful man, we don't learn nearly enough about him.

I have not gotten to Constantine yet but I do know a bit about him. I have study books that mame mention to him. PHI also grabbed my attention and I do intend to check that out. This week I am on vacation so I have plenty of time to read while my gf works. I should have no problem getting up there with you guys.

I like the way he establishes at the beginnings of his books as to which things are actually factual. The art was one of the things he stated that he was being factual about.

May I say, I know I'm not reading along but when I did, he annoyed me right off by talking about how many words could be made from whatever phrase that was? And he underestimated it by a long shot, as I found out after five minutes with pen and paper

I just finished chapter 32 andat this point I really hope they reveal what Sophie saw jer grandfather do. She witnessed the chanting but not what was in the center.

Lol. However, she was referring to a time when she was a kid.

To play devil's advocate....maybe she meant words of a minimum of 3 letters or more.....I dunno.

I'm a bit ahead of schedule...chapter 70...and I'm still waiting for Sophie to reveal what she saw Josh. I have a conference next Tues and Wed to attend out of town and may not have much reading time then so am trying to stay a bit ahead this week.

Spoiler ALERT: I'm finding this book to be very intriguing, even though my beliefs differ from what is being presented regarding what the true nature of the Holy Grail actually is...but I find Brown's writing style to be compelling, and I continue to return to find out what will happen next...especially easy to do since chapters are so short.

I remember all the controversy surrounding this book when it first came out...many Christian's called it "heretical" and I now understand why. Because I believe as I do that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh and therefore without sin, I cannot accept the idea that the purported "truth" in this book is anything but false, but it makes for good fiction and I am open minded enough to be able to read it in that context and enjoy the story.
