How to "Refresh" a Member's Total or Add a Comment to Their "view books" Screen:

We are using ♥Robin♥ on Atomic Tangerine for this example:

• Scroll down to your friends, who are listed first, or down futher to "community."
• Click on either the percent numbers or the words "view books" (red arrow)
• You can enter a comment on this screen (blue arrow), if you desire, or wait for the next one.

• On this screen you can see her total books jumped from 2 to 4.

• If you click on her name (blue arrow), it will hyperlink to her Profile page.

• Pink arrow shows comments by other members.

• If you hit the back arrow to go back to the community page, you'll see she is back to 2 books; just refresh the page.

• The Total goal for all participants may take anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes.

• The cache usually updates every night sometime after 9 p.m. PST.

Previous mini challenges:
(view spoiler)

CURRENT MINI CHALLENGE

Copied from Kate's post, found HERE

Here's how we are going to play:

You can earn one point for each category your book fits and can read as many books as you want for points.

1. Read a scary book (this is open to interpretation, I am going to read scary/horror books, but maybe someone else is scared to read a classic and therefore finds The Catcher in the Rye scary/intimidating, so interpret "scary" as you will)
2. Books about vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc.
3. Halloween Colors: Black, orange, red: Read a book which is predominately black, orange, or red or some combination of these colors (Black and white covers are acceptable)
4. Several of the games on the linked page appear to be card-based, so read a book which relates to cards in some way. This may mean they have "ace", "king", "club", "heart", etc, in the title, a picture of a playing card on the cover, include a card game in the story line, etc.

I am currently thinking we will play these games October 1-31, but if we get bored with it or need a change, we can add something else after the Read-a-Thon.

Hi Electric Lime team! I am one of your captains. I was in round I and am very excited for this to be starting again! I will be in charge of weekly updates, managing our team's spreadsheet and making sure all our members are on the correct team and that their books work for this challenge.

1,350 is the number we need to reach to win. Remember that any books you finished that were 160+ pages from April 12 on will work for this challenge, so be sure to add them to your bookshelf for this challenge.

Happy reading! :)

message 9: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Welcome to Team Electric Lime! My name is Kate and I will be your cruise director for our Round II Tower Team Read Challenge. I will be posting challenges periodically, and communicating with participants.

I live outside Washington, DC with my husband and our 14 year old dog. During the week, I spend my days playing with my two year old niece and reading voraciously. When I am not acting like a toddler, I am an avid sports fan, an amateur golfer, and a voracious reader. :)

I mostly read literary fiction, but I read a lot of different kinds of things and frequently find myself unexpectedly enjoying off the wall things. I am not a fan of contemporary romances or graphic novels, but I will give almost anything else a try.

Please stop by and tell us a little about yourself, after signing into our sister group:

Post your bookshelf name:

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Hi team! I'm Logan and live in Chicago with my husband and dog. I read lots of YA, mixed in with urban fantasy, mystery, and even some nonfiction. I'm looking forward to Round 2! I was on Team B last time.

message 11: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Welcome to Electric Lime, Logan! Both Megan and I were also on Team B in round 1 and it looks like we have several other members joining us from the Brigade!

message 12: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shelld79) | 288 comments Hi, I was also in Team B from round 1 and cannot believe the hectic amount of organisation that has gone into this new round. It blows my mind the work that has been done.
I'm hoping to get back into my reading groove very soon as I have been in a little slump lately but knowing me it won't last too long :-)
I live in Australia with my hubby, our two year old boy, and our fur and feathered children who consist of one beagle (my first born!), two cats and a duck.
I can't wait to see how we progress in this new round!

message 13: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Welcome, Michelle! It sounds like you have your hands full. We all hit reading slumps once in a while, I am sure you will find something to spark you soon! Your cheerleaders can be here :)

Nairabell | 303 comments Hi all! I'm Claire and I was also on Team B last round :) I'm from London, England and I'm a full time carer for my Mum. I'll read pretty much anything, but I mostly read cozy mysteries, YA, paranormal romance and urban fantasy.

I'm really looking forward to playing with you guys, especially as I've been in a bit of a slump with reading (I joined a quilting group and have ended up very distracted).

Kate S | 1998 comments Hey Electric Lime! Thought I would drop in and see how we are all doing. I have read some fantastic books this week (and some which were only OK).

Calico Joe
Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald and
Brideshead Revisited were all fantastic.

I think Dave Barry should stick to editorials and humorous essays, as this was not my favorite book of the week:
Big Trouble

How about everyone else? Anyone read anything fantastic to recommend? Anything terrible we should avoid like the plague?

message 27: by Megan (last edited Apr 18, 2013 08:18PM) (new)

Megan (celtic_girl) | 728 comments I read The Dance by Dan Walsh & Gary Smalley and it was absolutely AMAZING! This book made me cry, several different times, and I am a person that doesn't cry very easily with fiction. Highly recommend to fans of either Christian fiction or contemporary fiction.

I also read and enjoyed UnEnchanted by Chanda Hahn. This was a very good YA book, and it is currently free at Amazon! I plan on reading the next book in the series as soon as I can get it. :)

message 28: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Finding a new series I can enjoy is a bright spot in my life! Glad you found one you can follow, Megan.

Reforming Lord Ragsdale
Marriage of Mercy

and the awesome The Subtle Knife

for 3 points :D

More or less. Bit rambling for nailing true brain candy, but sufficed.

And I just finished Lips Touch: Three Times, and I want to utter any and all superlatives that could come through my mind and flail excitedly. And purr
*shug* (it left me kinda silly)

message 33: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments I hope everyone takes a few minutes to review the group read-a-thon information! Every book helps and there is a reward of a "book bonus" for the team which scores the highest number of points.

I have some ideas about the group theme, the mini challenge/game and more, but I look forward to hearing other's ideas as well. Please don't hesitate to offer suggestions or voice opinions about my offered suggestions. Happy reading!

message 34: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Group Theme Ideas:

Getting to Know the Team: Read a book set in a country in which one of your teammates live (US, Sudan, Australia, England, Argentina, etc)

The Electric Group: Read a book with an object run by electricity in the title (The Fan Man, My Fair Lazy: One Reality Television Addict's Attempt to Discover If Not Being A Dumb Ass Is the New Black, or, a Culture-Up Manifesto, etc)

Lime: Read a book with the name of a fruit in the title.

ELECTRIC LIME: Read a book written by an author whose name is in Electric Lime.

message 35: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Mini Challenge/Game Ideas for Read-a-Thon

Stolen from Group B-Antonym fun-Give a book you are currently reading, will be reading soon or have recently read a new name by using the opposite of each word in the title

EX: Gone Girl=Here Boy
Dear Life=Hated Death
Big Trouble=Small Calm

Will need more for this category, to be expanded. :)

message 36: by Megan (new)

Megan (celtic_girl) | 728 comments For a group theme I like all the ones you suggested, but I especially like 'Getting to Know the Team'. However, maybe to make it more challenging it should be that you have to read a book from a country different than yours. Just an idea.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm with Megan. It'd provide a lot of dialogue too, since I could give titles for my country, but might need titles for others :D

I don't quite get the mini challenge. Is it just renaming, or finding a different book that goes with the flipped theme?

message 38: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments I am glad we like the Getting to Know You Challenge, it's my favorite, too!

The mini challenge is a break during the Read-a-Thon. It, in my opinion, should include books in some way, but should not include actual reading. I am not a poster of pictures, so I struggle to suggest anything requiring this, but love word games so am much more likely to propose something along those lines.

message 41: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shelld79) | 288 comments I've noticed that we seem to be one of the quieter teams on here.
How's everyone going? I finally managed to finish my first book for this round a couple of days ago which was January Justice (The Malcolm Cutter Memoirs, #1) by Athol Dickson and I loved it.

message 42: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments We are a quiet team, we're too busy reading to socialize much. :)

Glad to hear you enjoyed your first book of the round. I have not enjoyed the last couple as much as earlier reads, but I am really liking The Once and Future King and should have it finished tomorrow.

READ-A-THON UPDATES

There are some misunderstanding about ALL the team members needed to participate to get points.

Well, they DON'T

If a team has 12 members and only 4 want to participate, that team can still earn all the points available.

We'll consider that team a team of FOUR elements to the Read-a-Thon only.

Irene, I am still unsure of your bookshelf name. I'm just going to go with 2013c until I hear otherwise.

message 46: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Hope everyone is having/had a good Sunday! I did manage to finish my book, and I really enjoyed it! I am starting an autobiography this evening to read tomorrow called Infidel-it looks pretty interesting.

I will definitely be participating in the May Read-a-Thon and am super excited about it! I hope a few other members of the Electric Lime team are planning on joining in on the fun.

I know I have an idea about my page goal, but I will know better as I finish a few books this week to see which books I have coming up. I also need to figure out what day I am going to finish Les Misérables because that could cause a HUGE swing in my page total. :)

Have a great week and as always happy reading!

message 47: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Read-a-Thon Theme

Getting to Know You (Part 1)

Read a book which takes place in the country in which one of your teammates lives (different from your own). We have members living in Argentina, Australia, UK, Sudan, USA.

I need to send this to the moderators this week sometime, so please pipe in if you have comments, questions, etc. We need every participating member to read at least one book which fits this criteria for ultimate points, so if this is not realistic, please speak up soon! Thanks.

message 48: by Megan (new)

Megan (celtic_girl) | 728 comments I plan on participating in the Read-a-Thon and can easily read a book that will work for the group theme - I have several that take place in the U.K.! :) I'm still not sure what my goal will be. My total for last 11 days is 2,479 pages, but that is with having a few books halfway done beforehand. I don't want to overextend myself and not reach my goal, but at the same time I feel I should challenge myself to read more than I usually do. Plus I don't know if there is going to be some sort of reward for reaching your goal but not going too far over it. If not, I think there should be, otherwise I don't know why anyone would choose to read more than the minimum amount allowed. Anyway, I'll decide soon what my goal will be.

message 49: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Hi everyone,
I'm Lauren, the newest member of team Electric Lime!
Looks like I'm the only one who wasn't on team B last round - probably because I only joined last week :0)

I'm originally from South Africa but immigrated to Israel at age 9 with my family - wow, that was long time ago!

I teach English lit at a local college but I read most anything and everything. My favorite genres are mysteries and thrillers, romantic suspense, PNR/UF and historical romance.

I've read 5 books since April 12 (hope I updated the challenge widget correctly)

A Rush of Wings (The Maker's Song, #1) by Adrian Phoenix - 3★'s, a little weird for my tastes but actually quite engrossing.

Hard Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #4) by Chloe Neill - 3.5★'s, enjoying this series. Although this one was a little slow out of the gate, it livened up halfway through and has a doozy of a cliffhanger.

Love Irresistibly (FBI / US Attorney, #4) by Julie James - 3★'s, an OK read. Not as funny or witty as some of the other books in the series. I'm a bit disappointed that it has moved from romantic suspense to straight up contemporary romance.

Triptych (Will Trent, #1) by Karin Slaughter - 4.5★'s, brilliant thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

White Heat (Dept 6 Hired Guns, #1) by Brenda Novak 3★'s, creepy cult leader and some exciting moments but the balance between the romance and the suspense is off.

message 50: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I'll have no problem participating in the mini-challenge. I have dozens of books set in the US and UK. Will see if I have any set in other countries.

I usually read about 3 books a week of between 300-400 pages so a goal of 1150 pages sounds reasonable.
