Sandi (sandin954) | 1276 comments A slow month reading wise but had some good quality. Here are my March reads:

Top Read

Black Light (Bob Lee Swagger, #2) by Stephen Hunter Black Light
Stephen Hunter
An excellent thriller that pulls together the plots and characters of the author's previous books Point Of Impact and Dirty White Boys. Had my favorite type of plot, great characters, and realistic action.

Good Reads

Field Of Blood (Paddy Meehan, #1) by Denise Mina Field Of Blood
Denise Mina
Set in Glasgow in the early eighties. The book had great descriptions of of the city, the class and sectarian divides of the time, and how a daily newspaper runs. The characters were all very believable and Paddy was a compelling though young and flawed heroine. The only slight quibble I had was that the plot was fairly pedestrian and the entire subplot about the real life Paddy Meehan, while interesting, seemed a bit like page filler.

The African Queen by C.S. Forester The African Queen
C.S. Forester
A good listen but not what I had expected. I thought there would be more humor but this was really a straight ahead adventure. The audio version was read by Michael Kitchen who kept the pace lively.

Nine Princes in Amber (Amber Chronicles, #1) by Roger Zelazny Nine Princes in Amber
Roger Zelazny
This was an entertaining start to the classic fantasy series. Just enough magic and action to keep my attention. Listened to the audio version read by Alessandro Juliani who handled with first person narration with great aplomb.

OK Read

A Spy by Nature (Alec Milius, #1) by Charles Cumming A Spy by Nature
Charles Cumming
Set during the run up to Blair's election as Prime Minister this was a fairly tepid espionage thriller. The plot just did not do a lot for me and the main character annoyed. Listened to the audio version read by Simon Vance who was the best part of the whole endeavor.

Ann (annrumsey) | 17148 comments Sandi: My current book (The Death of Bees is set in Scotland. I usually like that setting so will look up the Denise Mina book, Field of Blood, thanks!

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9552 comments I started listening to Field of Blood a while back and couldn't get into it. I think I had to return it before it really took hold, and I let it go.
