I found The Shining on my Kindle Paperwhite for pennies on the dollar. I will start reading tonight.

Eric, I was not aware that there's a sequel coming out this year. This will make me read the novel quicker before the movie shows Danny all grown up.

The Shining is one of my favorite novels. I've read it a few times and each time I see it differently. I saw jack as a psycho waiting to happen instigated by the hotel the first time. I saw him as tragic and ruined by the hotel the second time and the third time I read it through poor Wendy's eyes.

I love this book.

Doctor Sleep not so much. It was good, but only when read as a separate thing from The Shining.

This is one of my fave novels, too. I'm not sure if the sequel is any good, I'm quite wary of King's newer works.

It's not the best, and kind of not necessary in my opinion.

I adored this book when I first read it and it has held up well over the years. It will continue to be a classic of the genre. All the same, I have no intention of reading the sequel.

It really does hold up well after all this time. My Bucket List contains staying at the Stanley Hotel in the winter time.

I have a first edition of The Shining! Great book, though the ending was a bit strange...

I like The Shining overall. Tense, creepy parts, good characterization, found the isolation and borderline madness fascinating, love the setting, the pace is surreal and gets to you. I have to say I dislike the ending though, King suddenly turned it into a strange cheesy novel when it was serious and thought-provoking before that.

I think it needed a bit of a cool down after all that. Even before the evil, the magic, just the sad Oprah show level horror was getting to me!

The movie ended in freezing death so I was pleased when the book had just a little light at the finish.
And then came Doctor Sleep...

I've never read the book but I've seen the movie a ton of times, I want to read it as it's one of my favorite horror stories.

There are quite a few differences between the book and Kubrick's version on film. King was never a fan of Kubrick's "re-telling" and after you read The Shining, you'll see why.

I didn't hate Doctor Sleep, but I didn't like it anywhere near as much as I loved The Shining and it was nowhere near what I expected/wanted from a sequel.

I actually loved the movie after reading the book. I've read the book a few times and found it great and gripping, with the ending being the exception.

I do see King's point that Jack gets crazy too early and basically starts that way in the movie, but the directing, music and acting made that movie one of the best atmospheric movies I think.

This is actually one of the few big King books I never read. I don't know how many times I've seen the movie though.

No haven't heard of it, but it sounds interesting

This is funny because two years ago I said I found the Room 237 documentary interesting yet I watched it again this year and thought it was total garbage. Funny, either I didn't watch Room 237 back in 2017 or my opinion and view totally changed.

It was a bunch of hogwash conspiracies that no rational person would make a connection to and it's what the entire documentary is based on. A bunch of critics and viewers with their outlandish takes. I don't know how I thought this documentary was good.

On another note back to the topic at hand, I still need to read the book.
