I believe I have seen this movie...It has been a long time but I think I liked it
I both saw the movie and read the book. Although both grabbed my attention, this is one of those rare times, and I hate to say it, I liked the movie better. The book is much more informative and explains how storms like this occur in a way even us non-scientists can understand. But the storm itself is so huge and so unimaginable to anyone, like myself, who has never seen anything like it, the magnitude is just not comprehensible. In the movie, the visuals make the storm much more visceral, real, and terrifying. Either way, the reader or viewer gets a real inside view of the devastation and emotional impact nature can have on a small community.
I've seen the movie too. It's been a while now but I know I liked it. One of my biggest fears is wind storms. So while most people get scared watching a horror movie, it doesn't even faze me and never has. But the first time I watched Twister and this as a kid I was cowering under a blanket.
I am with u on that Heather. Scary movies make me laugh...but real life movies scare me to death...The day after tomorrow I think has scared me the most!

Now that I'm older they don't actually scare me so much as make me think. But a few years ago we had a really bad wind storm where I live. They called it a down burst. It lasted maybe ten minutes but it was horrible. We were in the truck too so it was even worse. I actually cried I was so scared. My friends make fun of me. But I think it's a legit fear. We lost over 150 trees at camp in that storm.

Ok...picked up my copy today so I am hoping to read it soon!!!
Absolutely not what I expected...More along the lines of a documentary type but it is a very interesting book.
I wasn't sure what it would be like. I might have to read it sometime. I'ts nice to read things that are informational sometimes.
I am really enjoying it....you should read it!!!!
lol....Ya that pile never goes down does it!!!
It bounces around an awful lot...It talks about the fishing in the 1800"s and how the laws became in place...I find it kinda boring when it does that because I don't understand what the boat parts are or the fishing terms are but I am pushing my way through

The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea by Sebastian Junger
It was the storm of the century a tempest created by so rare a combination of factors that meteorologists deemed it "the perfect storm."
When it struck in October, 1991, there was virtually no warning. "She's comin' on, boys, and she's comin' on strong," radioed Captain Billy Tyne of the Andrea Gail from off the coast of Nova Scotia. Soon afterward, the boat and its crew of six disappeared without a trace.
The Perfect Storm is a real-life thriller, a stark and compelling journey into the dark heart of nature that leaves listeners with a breathless sense of what it feels like to be caught, helpless, in the grip of a force beyond understanding or control.
