Harry has a seriously messed up life: his parents were murdered by a murderer (haha, someone who murders someone IS a murderer), that same murderer was obsessing over him for seventeen years while having his followers tear apart the wizarding world. Dang... that's a scary life. Dark times, people, dark times.
This is just a joke but Voldemort is like a teenage girl: he has objects that he would die without, He has a favourite pet and he obsesses over a famous teenage boy. :) but for reals he really does have a messed up life.
He's got a diary, his own special cup, his favourite locket and a ring that he prizes. Messed up? I'll say!
I wouldn't consider that a ground shattering entrance or anything. But it was rather extravagant.
Alright.
What about Harry, Harry?
What about Harry, Harry?
Wasn't that funny. But okay. xD
I really loved his character. He's so strong and kind, but not a complete Mary-sue! I love how J.K Rowling does that with all of her characters, they aren't perfect, they're like real people. They all have their flaws. :)
Harry has...kind of serious psychological issues. Well, I don't blame him. His parents--targeted/stalked (basically), then murdered by a serial killer, and this serial killer's been obsessing creepily over Harry for, what, seventeen, nearly eighteen years? Sees a good friend murdered, then a guy dropping a slimy foetus-like thing into a cauldron, then cut off his own hand. And that's only at fourteen. At fifteen:
-Has disturbing nightmares every night, one involving seeing a man lacerated and bleeding on the ground, while witnessing the attack first-hand.
-Is told that he must kill his adversary, lest he kill him. That's really intense for a fifteen-year-old.
-His godfather is killed right before him.
-Is possessed by a demonic villain/endures massive agony.
-Is chronically depressed and moody throughout most of the book.
At sixteen:
-Sees a girl get cursed with really disturbing results.
-Witnesses a girl leaving her leg behind (I know it was more comedic, but that, in the terms of the real world, is FREAKY).
-Spends most of the book obsessing over his nemesis. Honestly, it gets kind of annoying after a while, even though he's right.
-Sees best friend get poisoned, with disturbing results.
-Gets attacked by reanimated corpses and nearly dragged underwater.
-Sees mentor killed.
At seventeen:
-There are WAY too many to list, from watching a man's silver hand strangle himself to a classmate fall to his death and get incinerated (I know he didn't actually see it, but, still) to witnessing his house-elf friend get stabbed in the chest with a knife and die in his arms. Then, there are the maulings and the other gruesome killings, like seeing Fred get crushed by an avalanche of stone, and George losing an ear to Sectumsempra.
Oh, and practically all of his father figures were murdered. If he weren't psychologically damaged, I would think something was wrong with him.
If you've actually lived your life without encountering at least one thing that left an impression on you that made you act a little strange/depressed/unhappy, then clearly you live in some sort of happy bubble. Harry's no different. But yeah, he definitely had psychological issues.
Me neither. I know a lot of people rant about how moody and angry Harry was in most of the books, but it surely wasn't without good reason.
I feel really bad for Harry now D:
Harry Potter was a sassy but depressed teenager for pretty much the entire series. I never felt like I connected with him the same way I did with, say, Hermione or Luna, but I always sympathized.
I always liked Harry. But in some parts, I felt closer to Hermione or Luna. I can understand that what he experienced, made him moody and difficult. However, I sometimes liked it more how Hermione tried to solve a situation. I think this is what great teamwork is: a group of people who support each other through thick and thin, even if someone isn't helpful or even moody from time to time. Harry only showed that he was human like many other characters, too.
