I had to watch the beginning of The Study in Pink before I made it through the first five minutes and actually started to enjoy it. (Promptly afterwards I had seen all the other episodes and loved them thoroughly)
The Study of Pink opens with a war scene,-one from John Watson's dreams, as he used to be a soldier- and that greatly surprised me. I immediately turned off my TV, having not known what to expect and not wanting to watch something about war.
But there it was again, on my instant queue on Netflix, and allover my favorite Doctor Who threads-as it was created by Moffat.
So I gave it another try, cringing through the brief war scene to find that it was but a dream. (Personally, I think they should have opened differently)
But then we go to people killing themselves with little pink pills. My gosh, that terrified me. So once again, I shut it off.
Now this time, it was only because I felt guilty for not giving it a chance. I started it, and vowed to finish it.
First of all, Sherlock is a bloody genius-even more so than in the classic stories. (which I had completed just three months ago) John Watson seemed to be also slightly different, but more so than Sherlock Holmes.
Quickly, their relationship together started to grow and evolve. Adorable to watch, in my opinion.
You solve the clues with Sherlock, and the series just hooks you, even if I'm seriously not a fan of the beginning.

I was a little reluctant to watch too cuz each episode is really long, and I wasn't sure if I'd like it much. I don't like the Sherlock Holmes movies..I was very apprehensive of the show turning out like that. But my friend who luuuurrvvzzzz Doctor Who almost made me watch it. I didn't really expect Sherlock or Watson to be the way they were, although I'd read the books a long time ago. But it was awesome!! Half way through I knew I was hooked. I LOVED Cumberbatch and LOVED Martin Freeman even more, if that was possible.
Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are two of my favorite actors of all time.
I love A Study In Pink! My favorite is The Great Game, although a little confusing. But I love them all!
One of my friends talked me into watching this just a few days ago, and I was surprised by how much I loved it. :) I had a hard time understanding a lot of the dialogue because I watched it on a computer, but that's just another reason to watch it again, lol.

no doubt!
no doubt!
I can't say too much good stuff about this I just can't.
The first scene did surprise me but after putting off watching Sherlock BBC until Id read all the books I was too excited to finally watch to really mind~
The whole thing was just perfect....
I was just like, "I know that reference!!!" which just made it all the better.
The writers are geniuses.
and so is Sherlock.
And then Benedict became Khan in the recent Star Trek movie and I had a fangasm!
(not really that's gross.)
Anyways,
Martin Freeman is the cutest John that ever lived on God's green Earth.
and Ben......

I loved how this episode,(and many of BBC's Sherlock)manage to make it modern while keeping so much the same from the original. An example that comes to mind immediately is Sherlock explaining to Watson how he knew everything about him in the first minute he saw him. The information about Watson was almost exactly the same as in the books, but he found it out by looking at his phone instead of a pocket watch. Or Watson writing a blog and in the books it was his memoirs. Which really is what a lot of blogs are used for. Add the action and the relationship of the characters and it makes for one of the best shows to come along in a long while.
Ahhh!!! I had to stop last night right when Sherlock gets into the cab!!! I need to watch as soon as I get home!!!
I thought instantly OH MY GOD! IT'S EFFIE! and the cabbie looks just like my teacher D: (my friend and I who both have him, hate him, and always suspected that he was a killer just look at each other like, "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?!")
Julia wrote: "Did anyone else think... UMBRIDGE IS DEAD!!! I mean, she was wearing pink and everything..."You gave me a whole new perspective!

After watching The Study in Pink, I had to watch more! I really loved that all the characters (mostly) were introduced, in a variety of ways in the first ep.
I rewatched this last night and have to say that Phil Davis who plays the cabbie is an incredibly good actor. He matches Cumberbatch twitch for twitch in the great scene they share at the end.
Still my favorite episode out of the Sherlock series. Excellently done, great establishment of the characters in a relatively short amount of time, wonderful transfer from book to screen. I clapped my hands together gleefully when I saw how they did Sherlock's deductions with the words floating around him and all that, it was like actually seeing into his brain. I loved it!
