Skomand, if you have a favorite you can post it in the Book Reco thread.

I'm a fan of Bentley Little also, I liked Dominion quite a bit, the books you mention are also quite good.

Let us know what you think of this one. I havent read it, but it is in my tbr.

message 8: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I have read all of his books and am continuously on the look out for whenever his next one comes out. I got hooked with the first book of his I read which was "The Town". Another fun one to try him out is "The Collection" which is a collection of his short stories. I liked some more than others, but overall love him as an author.

William (wmcc) Will do Kevin. It's off to a good enough start.

Nikki,I also liked "The Collection".And you've just reminded me of one of my favourite short stories "The Washingtonians".I loved that one. It's just such a wacky story about a group of historians dedicated to George Washington's big secret.Brilliant!!!

"Washingtonians" is one of my favorite short stories too! Masters of Horrors made it into a short for their series years ago. I wouldn't recommend it though, I was hugely disappointed. I don't think the person who did it had even read the whole story, maybe just a blurb on it.

message 11: by William (new)

William (wmcc) Oh yeah!I remember Masters Of Horror,I don't recall "The Washingtonians" though, obviously didn't make much of an impression on me.I remember a great John Carpenter one,I think it was called "Cigarette Burns" and the awesome Joe Lansdale story"Incident on and off a Mountain Road ".I thought they did a great job adapting that one to the screen.

I enjoyed it Kevin.I liked how the tension slowly builds and found it pretty entertaining.I didn't think it was on the same level as "The Store" or "The Mailman" though.

I'm glad you liked it William. I'm a fan of Little, so I should get to this book sometime soon.

message 14: by Mharper (new)

Mharper Harper (harp) I really like The Resort. It was the first of his books that I have read and I read it during vacation at the beach. The book fit in with the hotel we were staying- not that it was the surreal horror-show one of the book, but I was at a hotel rather than at home. Now I'm reading The Store and so far I really dig it. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite horror writers.

William (wmcc) I'm about to start his new one The Influence by Bentley Little .I thought his last one The Haunted by Bentley Little was a tad average so here's hoping it's a return to form.

I haven't read any of the newer Little books. I have heard that he seems to have lost his stride, but I'll reserve my opinions until I actually read one of later releases.

I actually have The Haunted in my Nook, it's really too bad to hear it was only an average read.

message 18: by William (new)

William (wmcc) I hope i haven't put you off "The Haunted" Kevin.I've probably just read too many haunted house stories and it's by no means a bad book.

I enjoyed Dominion, it was a twisted read in every sense of the word.

Dominion by Bentley Little

The Store and The Association were also good books. I also thought Little's take on vampires was decent in The Summoning.

I truly think it's a shame that many reader don't get Mr. Little, many cant find the story for the gore, but such is the case with much of the work in this genre.

You didn't put me off this book William, I will get to it sometime in the future. I was just hoping you would have enjoyed it a bit more.

Awesome! I have that one but haven't gotten to it yet. Now I'm excited :)

Holly (goldikova) I enjoyed The Collection and The Association. I don't remember much about The House. I actively disliked University; the sexual violence was nauseating.

Yes, that's a selling gimmick, but The Summoning ,Dominion, The Walking, The Ignored do not fit that mold, nor does The House and a handful of others.

Authors tend to find a working hook and go for it, many authors do this, and many times it has to do with the business end of the deal. Musicians get caught in the same trap.

Take a good look at authors such as Christopher Moore and many others. I could post a long list here. They find a hook and run with it. It doesn't make them less enjoyable in my opinion. I look forward to new adventures in genres and styles I enjoy.

How many authors run a series into the dirt because it works? I'm pretty sure contracts come into play and expectations need to be met. Business and writing are a marriage unless you self publish.

Robert McCammon had quite a bit to say on this subject, and has posted his thoughts on line. I will try to hunt the open letter to his fans down.

I found this letter, but there's a better one where he threatens to quit writing altogether,

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I read some of his stuff in my 20s. I tried reading the Mailman but had trouble getting into it.

Back then I rated The Return and The University 2 stars, The House and The Revelation 4 stars.

Not sure if I'd consider myself an official fan or not, I'm going to try to finish The Mailman sometime and have Dominion and the Resort on my TBR shelves.

Dominion is a twisted read. I would have to rate it as one of the better Little books I have read.

Word of warning: If you are easily offended, this book will put you to the task.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Thankfully I'm not easily offended. What fun is that? :D

message 32: by Lee (new)

Lee (calmerthanyouare) | 15 comments Bentley wrote a book about vampires that would suck all of the bodily fluids out. I can still remember a scene where a priest takes a dead cat out of a freezer and spoons some conjealed blood onto a piece of bread and eats it.

That will always be with me.

Vicki Willis I am reading my first BL book right now.
The Haunted The Haunted by Bentley Little
I am only about half way through, but am loving it. I think I will want to read some more of his when I finish this one. :)
