Jimmy (jimmylorunning) | 94 comments I'm a huge champion of this Mexican writer, whom I stumbled upon while trying to read a Spanish interview with Cesar Aira:

"And Elena Garro, that I adore. I think as a writer is great, one of those that appear once every hundred years. I think it's the greatest novelist of the twentieth century." --Cesar Aira, thru Google Translate.

I think only Recollections of Things to Come has been translated into English. Come on, people! Translate this great author now! I read 'Recollections' a while ago, and was totally blown away. Oh, she was also Octavio Paz's wife, but that's neither here nor there.

More from Cesar Aira: "looking back on the author's career, critics have continued to refer to [Recollections of Things to Come] as her most important work. In reality, the peculiar genius of Elena Garro only timidly peeks out in its pages."

Jessica (jesstrea) | 14 comments Jimmy, it's very tempting, Maybe I should jump on it (translate her). I can't believe there aren't more books translated by her. I've only ever read her in Spanish. I'll have to query the translation association I'm in to see if anyone else is working on translating her works...
