Eric Greenfield I think Shadowlands is a classic and Ghost Story was right up there. very terrifying and fun to read.

Ghost Story is a GREAT book. I feel it's underrated and deserves much more attention than it received.

I didn't read Ghost Story. Saw the film, which wasn't very good.

I have to read it!

John (crimewriterjm) | 4 comments Ghost Story is a great novel - but I also liked Koko by Peter Straub and The Throat by Peter Straub . The movie of Ghost Story didn't make much sense. The novel's plot was too complicated for a film. It might have worked better as a series.

JDB | 64 comments Ghost Story was perhaps the greatest influence on my reading preference (horror). I was always looking for the "next" Ghost Story. As far as quality and pure brilliance, the book shines. I'm still searching for it's equivalence. And yes I read a ton of Mr. Kings work, but his prose never were quite as polished as Straubs.

I like the way you think. I agree about the authors prose, Straub IMO is definitely more polished and sharp.

JDB | 64 comments Straub is a better writer but King sure has the imagination and a decent voice to deliver the goods.

I don't like to bash King because I feel he earned his right as the King Of Horror but I do feel he is human and has put out some stinkers just like the rest of the pack. Some people have a hard time admitting that and I truly don't know why.

Ghost Story is an amazing read. While its detractors will say that they were bored or there wasn't much action and didn't finish it. This makes me sad that they didn't have the attention span to peel back all of the multiple layers that Straub shrouds this masterpiece within. His prose is pure poetic as the dread slowly ratchets up the climax. I can't say enough about it.

Seems typical of the division in horror readers, some of us prefer the subtlety and the rest aren't entertained unless some serial killer is stringing his victims entrails around a room in the first three pages............yawn.

Kirstin | 10 comments Ghost Story was the first book I read by Straub and I loved it. It's one of the only books to give me nightmares, maybe because the writing is so complex and immersive. I also loved Koko and Shadowland. Just brilliant!
