Did Movie #1 do The Hunger Games justice?

message 2: by Ciara (new)

Ciara | 144 comments I was actually quite disappointed with it. I didn't like Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, but Jennifer Lawrence was good as Katniss. The Cornucopia was a let-down... I just didn't imagine it as it was... It was an enjoyable movie but not the best.

message 3: by Alix (new)

Alix Fish | 24 comments The movie wasn't bad! It had all the important bits in it but I agree Hutcherson wasn't the best choice for Peeta! Jennifer Lawrence was good as Katniss, though!

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked this movie, a lot actually. But the book wasn't favorite so....
I thought that they captured it quite well, even if Hutcherson wasn't perfect, no.

message 5: by Ciara (new)

Ciara | 144 comments Yes. I said I disapproved of Josh Hutcherson as Peeta in a HG topic and was immediately flooded with comments disagreeing and often, being rude.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Aw, I'm sorry.

message 7: by Doctor Who Fan (new)

Doctor Who Fan I♥♥DW | 389 comments The movie, as a movie, was awesome. The movie, compared to the book, was sorta not as good.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, I can see that.

message 9: by Ciara (new)

Ciara | 144 comments As a movie itself, it's good, but I don't think it captured the book right for some reason.

I liked Woody Allen as Haymitch, and Liam Hemsworth was quite good as Gale.

Sinda Quietus (superwholockedtrekacrossthestars) | 2846 comments However, the "That is Mahogany!" Line was fantastic.

message 11: by Ciara (new)

Ciara | 144 comments Yeah :) I think Effie was portrayed well most of the time, in her oddness ;)

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I thought Katniss, Rue, Effie, and Haymitch were cast really well.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I think Effie, Haymitch and Gale were the best casted. I have no problem with Jen Lawrence, in fact I think we couldn't have had a better Katniss, but I guess I was just being picky.

message 14: by Mayomouse (new)

Mayomouse (mayomouse) | 612 comments I was actually surprised at the unexpected way they filmed in the beginning of the movie. It rlly brought the poverty of district 12 into the movie.

message 15: by Mayomouse (new)

Mayomouse (mayomouse) | 612 comments I think a lot of ppl would agree with josh hutcherson not being the right peeta! Cinda, and across the screen high five. And about Cinna? DEF not what I had in mind!!!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked Cinna. >.<

message 17: by Mayomouse (new)

Mayomouse (mayomouse) | 612 comments Cinna was pretty cool...just wasn't expecting him. They sorta made him look like he was in love with katniss. Like if u hasn't read the book, someone would have to explain the whole sitch to u

message 18: by Gloria (new)

Gloria I liked the movie :)
But the part where Rue dies is so sad !!

message 19: by Ciara (new)

Ciara | 144 comments I liked Cinna, too! I think the actor captured Cinna's strong personality, but also the darker,.more subtle side to him very well.

message 20: by Flore (new)

Flore (florefritz) I thought Cinna was pretty good. And i liked the game maker's (seneca) beard.

the part about rue WAS sad but did they show al the flowers? sorry, don't remember.

message 21: by Gloria (new)

Gloria Yep, I totally agree, he gamemaker's beard is awesome ! :D
And i think there were some flowers in the part where Rue dies ...

message 22: by Mayomouse (new)

Mayomouse (mayomouse) | 612 comments Gosh Flore! Just take the words from my mouth!!! Haha Jk. I was just about to comment about Seneca crane's Supercalafradgilistic beard...

message 23: by A (new)

A H I loved Jenifer Lawrence for what she did....really awesome she is :) But the movie as a whole isn't that impressive. They missed out on many details and I think the book was a better experience :)

Leah (lepolk) | 32 comments The book was better, but the movie did it justice (for the most part). I was kind of upset at some of the choices, like when they left out Madge, the Cornucopia, etc, but I LOVED Jennifer and Josh together and the movie as a whole was great. Also, I liked that you got the whole point that the Capitol was being cruel and unjust without having to see heads hacked off. Finally, I loved those extra scenes with the Gamemakers and that scene with Seneca and President Snow (BTW, Donald Sutherland was the PERFECT Snow). It was chilling but brilliant, kind of like the book itself.

message 26: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1 comments Yeah the movie was a bit of a let down compared to the book but I am still a hunger games fanatic. I thought they could of gotten a better actor for peeta but Jen did amazing. I get that it's hard to follow to what the book says but I think they overall did a good job. But once again the book way out scored he movie.

message 27: by Mayomouse (new)

Mayomouse (mayomouse) | 612 comments @lea, I totally agree they did a great job showing the cruelty of the capital

message 28: by Mayomouse (new)

Mayomouse (mayomouse) | 612 comments As I said b4 (i think) I had to explain the whole movie to my mom after we watched it!

message 29: by Rose (new)

Rose (natthebookworm) | 10 comments I think Josh Hutcherson was perfect for Peeta. I did not picture Peeta to look like him. His acting was great though. When they were in the cave they left out some scenes that were in the book that i loved. Overall I give this movie 10 stars!

Rebecca Jeyne Lannister (echodawn22049) | 152 comments I thought Josh Hutcherson was good as Peeta, but Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth were perfect as Katniss and Gale. Books are always better than films (except for World War Z, which my dad said was an awful book with no plot, but I thought the movie adaption was really enjoyable) because books allow more detail and backstory than films, as you can see the characters thoughts in books and become them. Overall, I thought the movie portrayed the book very well.

message 31: by Rose (new)

Rose (natthebookworm) | 10 comments I loved world war z and I do not even like zombie movies.

message 32: by Preethi (new)

Preethi | 9 comments Peeta didnt really fit josh hutcherson but i've been a fan of him for a while so im happy with it but katniss and gale were spot on! but my favorite character is HAYMITCH

message 33: by Ananya (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) Peeta was not that well cast but Katniss and Gale were awesome!!!! Haymitch was pretty cool and Rue was pretty much the girl I imagined. Overall, it was a pretty good movie and one of the best book to movie adaptations, according to me after Harry Potter.

message 34: by Ananya (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) One more thing, they missed out the part about Peeta losing his leg. I mean....he lost his leg and in the movie, he didn't!!! Pretty important if you ask me.

message 35: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Jeyne Lannister (echodawn22049) | 152 comments His leg was bitten and stabbed a lot in the film, maybe it was meant to be assumed?

message 36: by talltyrion (new)

talltyrion Nag... It was barely a scratch in the movie. He was moments from death in the book.

message 37: by Claire (new)

Claire I liked the movie, but it didn't capture the overall premise of the book. They got the plot mostly right, but you didn't get a full understanding of the government or characters. For example, in the book Peeta is witty and funny. In the movie he's just there. He has almost no personality. Also, you didn't see just how much Katniss struggles though the entire book. I didn't think that the movie did the book justice at all. On top of that, the media makes the series look like some stupid love story which drives me crazy, it's so much more than that.

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (taelianaofthewind) | 1584 comments Delaney wrote: "Did Movie #1 do The Hunger Games justice?"

Nay. It wasn't. In my opinion at least. At least I don't think any film could, besides ones including voice-overs for so much it of it imported from Katniss's inward view. They left out so much import in the movie...(i.e. the aforementioned Peeta loosing his leg, Katniss telling Peeta the whole star-crossed-lovers-deal was fake et cetera).

It was an adaptation but the book-the book was better.

I noticed that too!

Emily Stidham | 1 comments The books are always better! I loved the book! I thought with the movie they did an ok job of keeping up with the story line but it wasn't the best.

message 43: by Tia (last edited Jul 30, 2014 01:34PM) (new)

Tia Marie | 4 comments The books will always be better than the movie because you get to read the detail to everything. I did love the movie because you get to see everything come to life which is amazing!

message 44: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rjscottie) The movie was a good adaptation of the book.

message 45: by brooke1994 (new)

brooke1994 (formerlynarnian525) | 1174 comments I like it even though it's on the violent side.

message 46: by Jazzy (new)

Jazzy (stairstepjitters) | 155 comments I didn't like this movie too much. The ages of the actors bothered me (they all, except for Rue, looked too old. The scary part of the first book is that they're all kids and there's nothing you can do to stop them from dying). I also felt that it was a jarring shift from Katniss' first person perspective in the books to an outlier perspective. I didn't hear Katniss or understand so much why she did what she did. To truly understand her decisions you need to see inside her head more.

message 47: by Gracie (new)

Gracie Owens | 3 comments I definitely didn't enjoy the movie near as much as the book but that's pretty much how I feel for every movie based of of a book but it was a good movie overall

message 48: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Baker | 30 comments I enjoyed the books more than the movies. Jennifer fit great with Katniss, but I felt that Josh/Peeta was missing something. He was good I just don't think he captured everything that the book implied. I think the movie didn't capture everything from the book. It was a letdown. All three movies were; I feel that the purpose for the movies was to share the idea of the arena. I don't think the movies was for the characters at all and that's what was so upsetting. I really expected more.
