I like the old ones because they're a good series with quite a few books. Lots of the new ones are good, too, but they really aren't that connected and there are hundreds!!! I can't find them all!!!
There's so many other Nancy Drew series like the Case files series - I don't think I'll finish all those but I'll try out a few. :-)
Yeah, Tara, some of the newer books are harder to find in libraries and bookstores nowadays. My university library has a lot of them!

Most of the Nancy Drew Mysteries (1930-2003) and all of the Girl Detective books, as well as the Diaries are available as eBooks and there are libraries that you can borrow the digital editions from. :)
Charmaine wrote: "Good to know that, Ann :-) are the eBooks kinda expensive, or are they a pretty good price?"No, not too expensive - in fact, sometimes you can find them on sale, and that's really cool! :D Like @Amazon you can usually find a lot of them discounted - and you can read the Kindle edition on your laptop or of course a Kindle, or through an app, including for Apple devices. :) My favorite books I really like to have the paper editions, but the main thing is getting to read them! :D
Nice to know, Ann! Especially for some of the old paperbacks that are harder to find :-) I will definitely check out what's available for the kindle :-)

Also, you all check your library ebooks. I just checked out some older books straight from my local library :-)

Very cool, Lamarr :-) my library has some of the old books in ebook format but I've read the print versions of all the ones they have, heh heh!

I've only read the old ones and I don't really plan on reading the new ones. I think that the original is always the best.
I love the originals! Have you been reading any Nancy Drew books lately, Emily? I took a break but I want to go back to reading them :-)
Yeah, I'm reading the Hidden Staircase right now. I've read it before, but I thought that it would be cool to read it again.
I haven't read any new ones... I would REALLY like to read the unedited original versions of ND with less watering down of the story and characters.
Anyone else make it a goal next year to read some ND? I am going to try to read the entire new series of books from when Nancy is in college. Although the old ones always have a place in my heart.<3
I read that the college ones aren't very good, to the extent where they aren't even about mysteries anymore! Is that true?
I actually don't know. I haven't read any ND books aside from the original mystery stories. Although I did buy my daughter a "Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew" book when the girls are all age 10 or so. It was a cute read! I hope the college ones aren't horrible. :/

I'm trying to read as much of the original series as I can! (not the very first editions, but the ones with yellow covers)

I have 3 copies of the first edition books that were my mothers. I love them! But I am trying to finish the entire series as well (the yellow covers). So much to go through! :)
Okay guys, so I just read one of the newer Nancy Drew books. It's called "The Case of the Last Song" It's Nancy Drew 162. Has anyone else read it? I'd love to discuss. I think in these newer books Nancy is a lot sassier and there is a lot more drooling over boys and I dunno if I dislike it or not. I think I definitely prefer the original mystery stories though.
I read that one a long time ago, Ashlee! I was a teen and now I'm college-age ;-)
I don't even remember what it's about. But I remember finding it exciting at the end. With the newer Nancy books I do agree with you what you said. The endings are usually exciting/interesting in the end for me, though! What did you like about this particular book?

What I liked about this book was the twin aspect to it. I like how two suspects were twins and we never knew which one we were talking to. That was pretty cool and I don't remember that in any of the original mystery stories. Aside from that I just liked the traditional elements of the story- I liked Bess and George being with Nancy, I like Ned helping, I love the description of Nancy's sleuthing. I just didn't care for all the boy drooling and it seemed like Nancy was a bit sassier. I wouldn't call her "rude" but she was definitely a lot nicer in the original mystery stories. She let a lot roll off her back and was always polite even though in this book she got heated up very quickly it seemed.
You're right, Ashlee! I do remember the twin aspect now that you mentioned it :-) That's what I most liked about the book, too.
I do remember one of the Nancy Drew original stories featuring a set of twins, but they were girls instead. I can't remember which exact book it was.

I haven't read that one yet, but I will eventually :-) the one I was thinking of had a different title. It was book 20-something or between 10 -20. But the twins thing is supposed to be a surprise revealed at the end of the book, so I don't think I should say which particular book has it ;-)
