I am going to see the film today, I'll let you know what I think.

Though it is a drastic re-imagining of the Brothers Grimm short story, what did you think? Love, hate, indifferent?

I'm only going cause its at the dollar theater. LOL.

Certain films I am not sure of, I wait till they hit the dollar theater, and then go.

:)

OK here it goes:

I enjoyed the film. It has a certain Evil Dead/Armies of Darkness style of appeal. There's a few cheesy one-liners and other contemporary humor.

The action scenes were pretty decent. There's a little nudity, (female) a sex-in-the healing waters scene. (I felt a little more healed myself)

The witches are straight-up demonic, deformed, undead, wicked, and powerful. Hence my comparison to the Evil Dead series, because the overall effect of the witches and fight scenes is very similar, a paranormal action-comedy.

We find out late in the game there are other witches that are not evil-demonic, a decent twist, but I kinda saw it coming.

If you're into Wicca and other types of naturalist-herbalist-witchcraft-pagan belief systems, this movie might piss you off. But its all in good fun.

"The only good witch is a dead witch" ~ Hansel

Prepare to be entertained with juvenile antics and good ole action-comedy. The brother-sister team do a lot of ass-kicking, but mostly they get stomped over and over, which is part of the fun.

Jeremy Renner (Hansel) could stand to learn a few things about comedic timing in delivery of one-liners, but the supporting cast carried him along.

Its worth watching, and I am glad I waited till it hit the Dollar cinema. Not sure if I really wanted to pay full price on this one.

:)

Noree Cosper | 37 comments Great review. I pretty much felt the same way about the movie. It was a lot of mindless fun with witches and kick-ass witch hunters.

R.M.F. Brown | 158 comments I thought it was a step too far, proof that the film industry is fast running out of ideas. Too be fair, people have been saying that for years, but TV is the place to be.

I enjoyed it. Liked the build of the witches.

Steven (steven91) I enjoyed it, but thought it was a bit too gory for my tastes.

Kathy Davie (kathydavie) | 49 comments Most of the old fairy tales aren't actually our idea of kid-friendly.

Erich Penhoff | 133 comments Being from a country that boast writers like Grimm Brothers and other we red these stories in its original form, a horror story that mad kids hide out from the dark. The same with Red Riding Hood. It is only during the last seventy years these fables have been made baby friendly. Maybe we will experience a return to its originality> Would be fun!

You are absolutely right, but it is the dollar demand that drives the movie engine. At the same time artistic drought is a maybe a misnomer, it is just that the true artists are swept up in the drivel of the masses. But then again 'Shining' was not a literary gem, but a money maker at its opening and still is today. The same goes for Carrie and a thousand other stories put on film.

True, but at least most of King's work has a half decent story to it. Most films seem to involve things blowing up and very little else.

I find myself constantly evaluating the plots and dialogue, thinking, "Couldn't they come up with something better than this? They have all that budget..."

Heather Heffner | 8 comments Haha, I kind of wasn't expecting too much going into it--I was kinda expecting something like Van Helsing. Cheesy, and I wish characters had been developed more, but the fighting was entertaining.
