Tony Talbot This might be a DK book, or it might be another author. I remember a dedication in a book where it ran something like this:

"To Barbara James, winner of the Get-Your-Name-In-This-Book competition. Barbara - you thought you were going to be a psychotic killer, but ended up a sweet lady. Sorry about that."

Any ideas? I have no idea if that's the name of the woman, but that's the gist of it. I do remember it was a woman.

Tony Talbot I looked at the preview of the book in Amazon, the dedication was included. I wonder what the woman thought when she saw it!

This is pretty amazing :-)

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The real Barbara Christman won a prize: the use of her name in this novel. Considering that she was one of a hundred booksellers involved in the lottery, I am surprised by the way in which her name resonates in this particular story. She was expecting to be portrayed as a psychotic killer; instead, she will have to settle for being a quiet heroine. Sorry, Barbara.

I am hesitant to mention, but am going to....the note to Barbara is actually an acknowledgement, not a dedication. The book is dedicated to Dean's Uncle, Ray Mock. :-) Please don't hate me for mentioning the clarification... I'm just saying....

The Dedication reads as follows:

TO THE MEMORY OF RAY MOCK,

my uncle, who long ago moved on to a better world. In my childhood, when I was troubled and despairing, your decency and kindness and good humor taught me everything I ever need to know about what a man should be.
