Doctor Who Fan I♥♥DW | 389 comments YES. My friend gives me spock fives, and I have watched a few episodes, but as soon as I get free time, (probably summer vacation) I will watch more.

Sinda Quietus (superwholockedtrekacrossthestars) | 2846 comments That is a great idea. I haven't finished it all yet, but I've watched the Original Series, most of The next Generation and the first season of Deep Space Nine

Doctor Who Fan I♥♥DW | 389 comments Cool. I've seen a few of Kirk and one episode of Picard.

message 5: by Sinda (new)

Sinda Quietus (superwholockedtrekacrossthestars) | 2846 comments Do you remember what episode it was with Picard? I haven't seen The Original Series in a while.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I've seen a wee bit. I do Spock-Fives as well. *Little bow*

message 7: by Sinda (new)

Sinda Quietus (superwholockedtrekacrossthestars) | 2846 comments THE NEW MOVIE IS IN 26 DAYS! I CANNOT WAIT! The trailers are AMAZING! They managed to turn my friend into a new Trekker. There's only 26 more Trekless days....

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Is that the one with Benny in it? :D

message 9: by Sinda (new)

Sinda Quietus (superwholockedtrekacrossthestars) | 2846 comments Yep. His character is John Harrison.

Ciara | 144 comments I'm not a massive fan... but I might check out the new movie since Benedict's in it! (You're right, Johanna!)

message 13: by Sinda (new)

Sinda Quietus (superwholockedtrekacrossthestars) | 2846 comments I noticed quite a few people started watching the shows because they liked the reboot so much. Hopefully the fact that Benedict is in this movie will add to the people who do this.

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 7675 comments Most likely. Very clever of them, really. And lol, Ciara xD

message 15: by Sinda (new)

Sinda Quietus (superwholockedtrekacrossthestars) | 2846 comments I JUST WATCHED STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS AND TO SAY I AM COMPLETELY DRAINED OF ALL EMOTION IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. I WAS SOBBING AND FANGIRLING AND SCREAMING AND GENERALLY ANNOYING EVERYONE IN THE THEATRE.
Using all caps is exhausting.

message 16: by Russellat5 (new)

Russellat5 | 125 comments I just saw star trek into darkness and it was amazing!!! I watch the older episodes of star trek and I love them! Does anyone play rock paper scissors lizard Spock or am I the only one?!

message 17: by Sinda (new)

Sinda Quietus (superwholockedtrekacrossthestars) | 2846 comments It's the only acceptable form!

message 18: by Russellat5 (new)

Russellat5 | 125 comments Lol :) Spock is a walking contradiction !

message 19: by Gangambika (new)

Gangambika | 113 comments Now I really think I should watch the movie!! I'm not really a trekkie but I watched like 3 seasons of Enterprise and almost all of Voyager. And then I thought I would watch the movie, but a friend of mine (who was a trekkie) said I should keep off the movies. But hey...Cumberbatch just puts a whole different spin to the whole movie-watching business.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Star Trek is AWESOME

message 21: by Anne (new)

Anne Sting | 7 comments OMG!!! I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO DOES SPOCK FIVES!!! YES!!!

message 22: by Parker (new)

Parker (flipwizard) I watch the next generation. Awesomeness! My sister and I debate- she likes Commander Riker, I like Captain Picard. Captain Picard is smarter and less hasty, I think. My sis thinks he's heartless and reserved.

message 23: by Marie (new)

Marie O'leary | 7 comments I grew up watching the original Star Trek but Picard is my favorite of all the Enterprise captains. Though I find the series TNG didn't really come into it's own until Season 3.
Spock and Data are 2 of the greatest characters ever created for television.
I'm currently watching the original and TNG with my daughter (8 years old) and she's loving it too.

message 24: by Anne (new)

Anne Sting | 7 comments I am the youngest and the only one in my family who watches Star Trek (original and TNG). I still can't decide if I like Spock or Data better.

message 25: by Dee (new)

Dee YAY!!!!! A Star Trek thread!

I LOVE STAR TREK!!!

I am an original series girl. :)

message 26: by Elysia (new)

Elysia (elysia_rae) I sometimes wonder how people don't like Star Trek, it's so good! I've watched the new movies and some of the original Star Trek and Next Generation. :) (I mean, it has Patrick Stewart, why wouldn't you watch it?)

message 27: by Dee (new)

Dee Haha!
I've mostly just watched TOS

message 28: by Sukhmony (new)

Sukhmony (sukhmonybrar) I guess some people think: Oh it's going to be boring...some old fashioned sci-fi film. Before I really didn't care for Star Trek and stuff like that, but after watching it I loved it...they're really good! :)

message 29: by MJ (last edited Feb 02, 2014 12:58PM) (new)

MJ Woody (harpsickhord) I just became a Trekkie a week and a half ago :D I saw the newer movies first, but then I got to watching the original stuff--I prefer it to the new movies.

Awesomepeacock | 14 comments I am a total treky. Big fan.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I like the old star trek shows. They were always very adventurous. I enjoyed them very much.

message 32: by Elisa (new)

Elisa | 57 comments I got two good reason why I didn't watch much Star Trek till some months ago. When I was about 5 or 6 years old, my father watched an episode and what I saw traumatized me!! It was the only time I had a nightmare after watching a movie or a tv show. I just remember that soemone was turned into stone... and as a child it's hard to understand that it won't happen to you. And the second reason is that I always preferred Star Wars... That's not really a good reason but there will always be a fight between both fandoms, and I think there's no one who doesn't prefer one of them.
Then I watched the 2009 Star Trek and liked it, and started to watch the first Star Trek movie ( which is really bad...). And then Star Trek : Into Darkness, not just because of Benedict Cumberbatch!! At this stage I've watched the new novies and the old movies 1-7 and the first episode of Kirk...

Saving People, Hunting Things~ The Family Business | 204 comments I love the tv show, William Shatner made an amazing Kirk.
The adventure, comedy and social commentary made it a favorite for me.

message 34: by Anika (new)

Anika | 5 comments I love Star Trek.

Jazzy (stairstepjitters) | 155 comments And I posted a gif right on the first try! Whooo! *drops balloons from the ceiling*

In all seriousness, I love the classic series. William Shatner makes for an incredible Kirk and Spock is incredible. And I always loved seeing Uhura because she was a black girl on a spaceship. 6-year-old me and also 14-year-old me think that's pretty radical.

message 39: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Baker | 30 comments I like the TOS because of the unity between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. I like the new Star Trek movies but not as much because in the new movies the unity of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy is replaced with Kirk, Spock, and Uhura. And Spock in the new movies acts more human whereas in the old TV shows he acts more Vulcan.

I'm not big on the new movies either. Surely there's enough imagination in the world to move forward on the fictional timeline instead of repetatively backward.

Sarah Baker | 30 comments Can someone discuss the Spectral and Planetary classification in the TOS series?

message 42: by Christine (new)

Christine Malec | 14 comments Sarah wrote: "Can someone discuss the Spectral and Planetary classification in the TOS series?"

Good question. The only thing I know is that "M class" comes from the Vulcon "Minshara class" meaning habitable.

That is strange for the origin of class M to be Vulcan because in the 1st episode of the second season on TOS on Netflix, Amok Time, Captain Kirk had trouble with breathing. So technically every class M planet should be hard to breathe for humans, yet it wasnt shown in the show.

Wow, I missed that. I also saw that class K means adaptable. So, maybe that's what they meant?
