Andrew | 16 comments I'm from Edinburgh in Scotland so I've got Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which is cool because I'm quite a big Sherlock Holmes fan. I guess Londoners could also claim this as they've got 221b baker street.

I've also got J.K Rowling, she wasn't born here but she has a house here and wrote the first book here. there's actually a really rather annoying cafe on George IV bridge which advertises itself as the "the birthplace of Harry Potter"

Ashley (icecheeseplease) I'm "from" Dallas, Texas (US) but I've lived most of my life in Saint Louis, Missouri and I consider myself a 'St.Louisan.'

Writers from Missouri, the only ones I could think of off the top of my head were Mark Twain and T.S. Eliot so I googled a list and found a few more.

I've thought about driving out to Hannibal, MO for a day to see Mark Twain's home and the riverboat and all that but it's a two hour drive from St. Louis...

I don't have a lot coming from my hometown, Calgary... Since I'm currently living in Toronto, one of the more notable ones is Bryan Lee O'Malley who wrote and illustrated Scott Pilgrim.

Margaret Atwood has moved around a lot, born in Ottawa but she lived in Toronto.

David Ranney (davidranney) I am currently living in Los Angeles, but like Ashley, have spent a majority of my years in St. Louis.

Here are some more St. Louisians:
- Kate Chopin
- William S. Burroughs
- Eugene Field
- Jonathan Franzen
- Sally Benson

@Ashley - You should definitely visit Hannibal! It's quaint and majestic and a literary mecca (well, maybe that's overdoing it). I'll be returning home in July for a short trip and I'll be heading up there myself.

Lauren (laurenrpalumbo) | 1 comments I'm from Long Branch, NJ and Dorothy Parker, Norman Mailer, and Robert Pinsky were all born here. There's actually a plaque at Dorothy Parker's birthplace designating it as a literary landmark:
