Cory walked into the cafe with a spring in his step. He was having a good day, but it was rather boring now that school was out. He was home for the summer and looking forward to meeting up with old friends. Hoping to see someone he knew he had popped in here for a cold something.((Anyone want to RP? Please jump in))
Cory saw the pretty girl enter the cafe. He watched amused as most of the men in the place looked towards he, some eyes resting there. She must be used to that by now. He thought to himself. She didn't look too old, maybe 17 Cory thought, but she held herself with grace and confidence. Cory looked back up at the menu trying to decide what to get.
Cory got a soda in the end, root beer in glass bottle. He wondered how many places in the world still sold root beer in glass bottles. He popped the top and took a sip before heading to one of the only free tables by the window.
Sapphira notices only one empty table that is then taken by a man. She walks over "Excuse me, but would you mind if I sat with you?"
Cory turned away from the window he was looking through, surprised and maybe a little pleased to see the hot girl from a moment ago standing there. He smiled broadly "Not at all, please." He gestured to the empty seat, as if she had no idea where to sit.
Sapphira smiles, not concealing her fangs "Thank you." She sits down in the chair brushing hercurly blue-black hair out of her sapphire-blue eyes then holds out her hand "I'm Sapphira."
Cory took the proffered hand after a moment of hesitation. A vampire? Here? In broad daylight? He knew vampires could be tricky, but it was highly unlikely that she came here to feed. Sometimes they got lonely and went walking about, and she at least seemed nice. "Cory, its a pleasure." He said using as polite a tone as he could manage.
"No......I wouldn't say dislike." His eye went up as they all ways did when he was thinking, and he considered how to phrase it. "I would say I warier of you now than I was about five seconds ago." He smiled "But dislike? Not at all. Forgive me if offense was givin, it was not my intent."
"You have no need to be wary of me. I don't feed off of humans, and I only wished for some companionship." Sapphira says honestly
Cory believed her. "That's good to know." He felt bad for judging her based on spices but he didn't come to those measures by being bias, he had just learned vampires could be very different and very dangerous and you never could tell which. He tried to think of something nice to say, "It's a nice day out, huh?"
Cory laughed softly, not wanting to draw a lot of attention to his table. "I suppose it does, but......" He stopped unsure of how to go on. I mean it was was a little rude to go around asking vampires why they weren't a crisp piece of toast in the daylight hours. "Is there a particular brand you use? Of sunscreen I mean." He clarified.
Sapphira giggles "I know you're trying not to be rude. I seem to have a natural resistency to the sun, and I use the highest SPF I can find."
"You know that stuff gives you cancer." He said with a grin. It amused him to think of vampires getting sick, not because he wanted them too or because he hated them, just how absurd that would be. Immortal, but sick all the time. That would suck. "It must be nice though." He said with more seriousness. "To be able to get out."
Cory wasn't sure what to say next. He took a drink of root-beer and counted how many people in the cafe were wearing blue. A pointless exercise to be sure, but it kept him busy for a few moment. He thought of several things to ask, but all sounded like prying and that was not something he wanted to do. With a human it would be considered polite conversation, but with a vampire? who knew how they could react.
Cory almost blushed, but on his darker skin it was hardly noticeable, but then again, vampires had very good eyesight. "Oh, I was just curious where you go when you are out? Or do you always come to the coffee shop?" He asked. It wasn't exactly abrasive, but she had asked.
Sapphira shrugs "Around, sometimes here, sometimes wandering." She looks out the window blindly. "Anywhere to find companionship, I geuss,"
"Is it so lonely?" Cory asked. He knew the answer of course. Any vampire with a lick of sense was often lonely. It was the ones that were happy and took great joy in being a vampire you had to look out for. He hoped that was not too insensitive.
"Yes, there are but a few small joys." She thinks of the other vampires, disgusted at the ones who enjoyed taking life. She knew she was not among them.
"What is one?" Cory asked, truly curious this time. He often asked question he knew the answer to, to make other people feel more comfortable and not act like such a know it all. This was almost a new experience, asking a question he had no idea what the answer would be.
Sapphira smiles lightly "I have more time, so I can help more people." She twirls a lock of blue-black hair around her finger abscentmindedly.
Cory liked that answer, that showed a lot about her charter. "That does sound like a perk." He took another drink, soon his root-beer would be all gone, then what was he going to do? "Although I would avoid the red cross if I were you." He joked.
Gwyn giggles. "Wiser words were never spoken." She tries to keep a straight face, but ends up giggling
Cory smiled too. Had he indeed found, or rather been found, by one of the few sain vampires? And better yet, maybe a good one? He mulled over the thought. It would be most interesting to have a vampire friend he didn't have to worry about eating him every moment. "Do you live around here?" He asked at last. He considered it rude to ask where people live, human or otherwise, and he didn't know where the vampires stayed around here, but he wanted to know if he would be seeing her around.
"Were you from here?" Cory asked. He meant before she was bitten but he didn't want to say that in such a crowed area. He only had about one more drink of Root-beer left then he would be out of an excuse to hang around.
"No, I was from Oregon. To be honest, I have only been a vampire for a couple decades." Gwyn thinks of her small hometown.
Cory choked on his rootbeer. He coughed for a few moments trying to regain his breath. It always shocked him how old vampires were. After clearing his throat he nodded. "So very young." He said although it was unclear what his meaning was. He looked around as he heard the door open and a large guy walked in. Cory balked and turned his back to the cafe, lifting his hand to cover the side of his face. Trying to mask the movement as though he was just messing with his hair.
Cory peaked under his hand, the guy hadn't seen him. The guy was too busy high-fiving what must be his pals. "Not that I have any problem with telling you, but I gotta go." He could see the exit close to him was clear and out of the guys line of sight. "Your welcome to come." Cory said getting up and making sure to keep his back turned.
Cory made a b-line for the door. Making sure he didn't bump anyone because he did not want to draw any attention this way. He didn't breath easy till he was outside and down the sidewalk a ways. "Whoo, thanks." Cory said. "I'm sure that must have been strange."
"Yeah, it was strange. Why do you fear him so?" Sapphira thinks of her human life "Does he bully you?!?"
"Oh I don't fear Derick per-say.....more of have a healthy respect and determination to stay away." Cory said with a lopsided grin. "He used to bully me in middle school and some in high-school before finding better prey. But the reason I avoid him is not that." Cory wasn't sure if this was any of her business and was a little embarrassed at what he was going to tell her. But tell her he would because she sort of deserved an explanation after that hasty retreat. "I once saved his life from a werewolf, and he never really forgave me."
((thanks :)))
Sapphira thinks for a moment "I would be eternally thankful if someone saved my life, especially from a werewolf." she shudders "I suppose his pride was hurt?"
Sapphira thinks for a moment "I would be eternally thankful if someone saved my life, especially from a werewolf." she shudders "I suppose his pride was hurt?"
"That, and....well this is just speculation, but I think he really wanted to be one." Cory didn't want to spread rumors around but he highly doubted Gwyn was in the rumor mill. "I've also know a lot about him, which makes him uncomfortable. He hopes that if he treats me badly no one will believe me if I ever tell anything nasty about him. That maybe people will just think I am making stuff up." Cory sighed, he didn't like Derik, but it was in Cory's nature to feel bad for folks. "Little does he realize that by treating me, and others, badly it just makes anything bad about him more believable."
Sapphira sighs. "I'm afraid that you are most likely correct. Humans consider us monsters, but what they don't realize is that the worst monsters can be humans." She looks at Cory
"Perhaps, although I personally believe Hitler was a vampire." Cory said. He was mostly joking, but he said it with a straight face to see if she believed him. "And the man who invented the A-Bomb? He was visited by other-worlders." Now he was just making stuff up, but it was funny.
Cory laughed with her. It was pretty absurd he had to admit. "Very well, very well, I hadn't heard that. But....." He smiled with a hint of trouble. "Maybe I will start spreading it around. Maybe someone will start a cult in my name and I will be famous amongst the conspiracy theorists."
Sapphira laughs boisterously. "Pray tell, oh faerie, just what cults belong to your name," her sapphire eyes twinkling in humor
