When Marvel meets DC... discussion

Paige's body moved slightly to get comfortable on her bed.

She heard a knock at the door, a bright rap of sound with knuckles rolled.

Paige mumbled a barely audible "Come in." In her half asleep state.

Even if the door was locked, two red eye dots meant the door had been silently cracked open.

"I found my way up to de hangar again," said Gambit's familiar voice, "To check if y'where okay."

A pitchy voice squealed, "So she is the one! Helllllooo! I am Starfire!"

It was too dark to see anyone but obviously there were three people in Paige's room.

Paige sat up with her short boyish blonde hair a mess and looked at Gamebit tiredly, "I didn't think you were going to come back. I'm glad you did." She said to him with a small smile lighting up her slightly tanned features.

"Hello Starfire." Paige said before letting out a small yawn then saying, "I'm Paige, nice to meet you."

Despite seeing better in the dark than perhaps in the day, Gambit switched the lights on. Clearly seen were the two figures. One of Paige's street thief and the other of a very curvy orange woman floating a foot off the ground in a belly button top and short shorts. She had one hand on Gambit's shoulder, leaning into him while levitating there and grinning her pearly whites like it was Christmas.

Gambit in turn leaned on Paige's wall with ankles crossed, not really interested in talking just yet. Sometimes, it was best to collect your winnings and get clear of the table as quickly as possible. Speaking could ruin it all and he was taking the angle of a sly schemer, looking more like a Guild member than anything else.

Gambit let his eyes trail across her room, noting the book names, noting the cleanliness.

"It's difficile when you can't fly," he admitted with a head tilt. He seemed to be trying to read into her, attempting to figure out what she had thought when she'd left.

The girl at his shoulder hugged him and than moved to Paige's bed, sitting right at the end. The springs protested to high heavens.

While Gambit made it feel like an old movie, Starfire was summertime in Beverly hills, alien modelling addition.

"You simply must tell me your hobbies! You have such beautiful hair! But you look so tired! Here, have some of my tea, it will--"

"Starfire, no!" Gambit said, "Y'can't. She's allergic. Severely."

"It was banned on Asgard," Starfire admitted, dotting her fingers.

"Look, I'm sorry I couldn't talk to you any other time," Gambit said, noting her grogginess. He tired to see how she would interpret those words, his gaze, serious, friendly, reassuring and only for her.

Paige giggled slightly, "It's ok Monsieur." she told him. She looked at Starfire, "I like to draw, and surf." She told her quietly.

"What is this surf? I have heard of a man named the silver Surfer. Are you him?" Starfire asked vacantly.

((Mais oui, although it is becoming a bit crowded, as if by little cousins invading your room to get their grabby hands on everything of yours....))

Starfire traced the patterns with her index, babbling slowly dying down as she stopped to look pointedly at the door.

Pulling her tank top down her bony midsection, she thumbed back at the door like it was mission impossible.

"KYLE!!" She shouted with glee at hearing her brothers voice, "Come in!" She said happily as her eyes twinkled.

Paige nodded, "Sure!" Paige said to him.

((Darn, I forgot where this was going.))

Paige smiled and took te food from him happily. "Thanks Kyle!" She said to him in a happy tone.

"Hey!" She said to Kyle as she playfully slapped his arm, "This is Monsieur," She said pointing to Gamebit, "And this is Starfire," she said as she pointed over to the orange skinned female.

"No." She said sarcastically, "Your yellow." She said giggling.

Paige blushed a light crimson color and nodded. She mentally poked at Gamebit's mind with her own trying to see what his reaction would be.

Paige munched on her food quietly as she poked at Gamebit's min once again, 'Halo? Anyone in there?' She asked him mentally.

"Starfire, yes," she said grinning with a full two rows of pearly whites, "I am orange, like a Tamaranian and you are Yellow like a Simpson. Together we will get along very nicely," she said like it was a matter of fact.

Gambit smirked, "Why does your girlfriend persist?" He asked Kyle, "It don't work," the corners of his eyes crinkled at Paige but only slightly, "How does it feel to be human, sha?"

There was only one girl who could see into his mind and she and her poisonous flesh was buried in Drake's destructive power. Paige's other Gambit pinned 'boyfriend' she had many of these figures in her life.

Paige coughed up the water she was drinking. "He is NOT my boyfriend Monsieur! He is my brother!" She said flustered as she looked at him with shock at what he thought evident on her fave and in her eyes. 'I try because I wan to.' She said to him mentally seeing if he could understand her.

Gambit rubbed his temple, his jaw having a spasm as he fought back the pain of someone pressing up against his mental barriers. He turned his back to her as he tried to work the tapping away, "If you keep doin' dat. Aie, Ttinking you'll get results... Si Gambit didn't know betta, he'd say you're tryin' to experiment some prejudice on his mind," he appraised her, "Impressive but... maybe you should keep it for some oder..." He turned around and clasped Kyle's hand with his broken gloves, "Nice ta meet you, brother o' Paige. d'you cook dat yer'self?"

Paige shrugged and stopped before laying down on her bed. She sighed and looked at the ceiling of her room wondering how she was ever so lucky to get out of Hydra while her emotions were mixed with happiness, confusion, and sadness.

"You an I," he promised to Paige, "Had enough experiments up here," he tapped his temple, "To not like invasion of privacy," Gambit trudged towards her and sat down at the end of her bed, playing with her wrist once he'd taken in into her hand. She had very smooth skin and he seemed to dwell on it. But not as a pervert, no longer as a pervert.

Her emotions were so hectic that he couldn't make head to toe of them. She was straining under mental and emotional stress all day.

Deliberately he said, his expression shifting to something much more calming, something that was meant to relax her strain, "Say, when d'you encounter waves big enough ta ride? I wouldn't believe dat der ocean in de sky."

"When I went to the beach as a kid I went surfing." Paige said as sadness tinged her emotions as she thought of her past and how she couldn't remember her mom or dad.

Starfire was about to slip into a lopsided grin, happy to be spoken to but than it occurred that Kyle's comment wasn't a funny one and that he wasn't trying to be part of a routine. She fell, no longer able to control her flight and thus was sitting with her butt end on the carpet looking frazzled.

"In many ways, yes," Starfire said, leaving it with the safest answer, "Yes, they are both very good at finding friends. May you be pleasured in helping me up?"

"They're courting!?" Starfire exclaimed, "Why has no one told me this?" It was like getting a Disney princess surprised.

Gambit met her eyes mutely as if to check if she was okay before turning back to Paige.

He knew she was a princess, that was a very discomforting realization.

"But he has not yet told me where Nightwing is nor," figuring that she was sounding very whinny and unladylike, Starfire slouched her shoulders and left the room looking sad, pulling him out with her.

((I hate to say it Kyle, but if your sister had a boyfriend whom you've never met before. I'd probably not put 'leaving them in a room alone' high up on first things to do.))

He dug into his coat pocket, finding a small container of Advil and shook it before twisting the cap. "The dose says deux."

Paige giggled at Gamebit and smiled her eyes sparkling, "I'm not sure where I grew up exactly." She said to him as she thought to herself and Famebit by accident, 'I have no idea how we had such a bad start but I really have started to love him.' As she blushes slightly thinking those thoughts.

"You're supposed to take two of them for pain medication or to relieve headaches." Paige told Gamebit with a small smile.

"Which is why you're takin' dem," he nodded.

Himself, he couldn't take them. His metabolism was a space heater of constant energy and thus burned through any pill. That was great when someone had put unknown toxins in you but not so great when you were getting an operation without anaesthetic.

Not that his 'Doctor' cared about anaesthetic when he'd operated. Apparently the open brain surgery could only be performed if he was awake and able to say where it hurt.

Gambit, admittedly, wasn't a very good Doctor but than again, he'd never met a single doctor he'd liked so, in the price of the medical system failing him, Paige would just have to deal with two tablets of Advil while sitting beside a very handsome young man.

Paige sighed and shook her head no. "They don't work on me Gamebit. Any type of pain relievers or headache relievers don't work on me. They haven't since I was five and..." She trailed off looking away with a small tear rolling down her cheek. Her heart rate quickened a bit as she remembered what happened to her in Hydra and she turned completely away from Gamebit so he couldn't see how weak she felt she was.

Why did every time he tried to smile sincerely it always came out sickly sarcastic? Maybe it was better to try not to look children friendly and for once put a little more seriousness into what he was saying.

"Hey, hey, don't strain y'self," he rasped, cupping her shoulder to take in some of the vibrations her sobs were giving her, "Somethin's botherin' you and dat happens but if I can get y'anyt'in' to stop de stress it'd be better on both o' us."

Paige sighed and shook her head, "It's just been a whole since I had someone to lean on. I've only been out of Hydra for a few days." She said quietly.

He fell quiet, seeming to contemplate by rubbing his chin and leaning into the wall behind, slowly drawing his hands behind his neck, "Misery loves company. Mabbe it's smart to talk 'bout it." Whatever it is... She said allot about that Hydra and about experimentation but maybe something specific had scarred her stronger than the others. Her parents death or disappearance could play into this except she wasn't a mutant. Whatever caused her to have these powers was a mystery up until now. Most likely, they'd accumulated at the age of 5...

All these mood swings were a beating.

Remy was lying low his inner surprise over a subject she'd brought up but keeping it from batting the surface, he simply offered her his ears and shoulder to lean on.

Paige seemed to have lived more in the last few days than most people did in two lifetimes.

Paige sighed and looked to Rémy. She definitely was in love and you could feel the compassion and love for him radiating off of her body. "It's ok, and I would rather not talk about it unless if you want to know what happened. But I'll let you know one thing, they sure as hell didn't give me all of my powers." She said as her rainbow eyes glowed in the light making them seem like they were on fire.

"Naw, dôn strain," he said and then grinned wolfishly, "I'm surprised you're not loopy or sleep'n yet. Der's no pride in stayin' 'wake. Here," he got up, adjusted his coat and leaned down to kiss her on her hair, patting her shoulder with his wrist guarded hand.

Paige blushed and smiled at Gamebit with a little yawn escaping her mouth as happiness flooded we body. "Will you lye down with me Monsieur?" Paige asked him quietly as she blushed a light crimson color.

His red eyes shifted and for a second she'd caught him off guard.

Gambit ran a hand through his hair. With that smile he could turn a homophobe gay.
"It's not dat I don't mind not sleeping but dat I gets dis feelin," he said, "Dat you're not gonna see a wink o' daylight if you don't lie dat pretty head o' your's," he rather her human, not an owl. En plus, with all the experimentation, he was surprised she wasn't healing still--Knowing those sick bastards personally, they usually took a saw to the bone.

Paige had been burning up, the sight amused him to no end.

"Sorry, I'm not a masochist," he shrugged like he was admitting to not liking butter, "Je te verrai dans la matinée."

He shut the light on his way out, the sound of a lighter clicking in the hallway.

Paige had a confused look on her facts but layed her head down anyway and she soon fell asleep dreaming of surfing.
