Religion
Well said, Leah. Yes, we have opinions based on Christ's teachings, but our theology goes much deeper than that. When we first convert, Christianity is just an inclination. With adherence it soon becomes a lifestyle. And, with years of dedication, you and Christ dictate's become inseparable. We'll never become Christ-like that's an unreachable goal, but none of our sins rule or control us as we have a much better Master than sin. And then there's this other little added benefit of eternal life - sweet!

I am Mormon, and I believe most of what is in the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Pearl of Great Price, and the other books, but there is also things I don't believe.
He says homosexuality is a sin. How is love a sin? How do you make a choice in who you love?
I pray to my God every night, go to church every Sunday, but I'm a lesbian. Do you think I'll end up in hell? For this one "sin" that I can't help?
I'm a good girl, I really am. What makes me a sinner?
I love my religion. They do not force you into baptism, and they do not force belief on you. My religion believes that all religions have the truth, just not the full truth.

Okay, good. :)
Okay, good. :)
I am an atheist, but I don't think having a religion is bad. As long as you can still see both sides of the metaphorical coin, it doesn't matter what you believe.

I have to say that religion does have quite a big impact on my opinion regarding certain things. But I also try to look at it from a point of view other than religious, because I know that a lot of people don't believe in God.

Nice! I agree.

I got into an argument with my sister the other day about this. She's an Atheist. Maybe she was just challenging me, but she asked me why can't atheism be a religion, as Atheists, like other religions, believe in the same thing together.
But in reply to your post, Atheists do have beliefs. They have the belief that there is no God. Sure, it's a negative belief but still one all the same.
I dunno, what do you guys think about this?

I think I might've misunderstood your last sentence--but in case I really did understand that right, I'm not an Atheist. I'd consider myself non-religious or Agnostic.

I don't consider myself a 'religious' person. However, I'm head-over-heels madly in love with Jesus, and I believe that he's in my heart, and I believe that I'm gonna go to heaven.

I love the way you said that! :)

I am a Muslim, also proud to a be so. However, the impressions "Muslims" around the world are giving is not the way Muslims are supposed to be. And when I say "Muslims" I mean the ones who cause destruction around the world. Islam does not teach people to hurt no matter what religion, or background they come from. In fact, it embraces just the opposite! It teaches Muslims to be kind to everyone, to show respect, no matter what the religion!
RELIGIONS SHOULD NOT BE JUDGED LIKE THIS!!!! I hate how all those 'self-righteous' people hate on religious people... They think we're stupid and ignorant of science, when they themselves are hating ob us!!! How does that even make sense?
Oh, no. I feel very welcomed on GR. It's on places like Youtube, or just the world in general where they hate on religions.

This is what I see all the time:X: Thank you for posting this. God bless you.
Y: What is wrong with you? Why do you effing believe in something like GOD??

You know that actually happens, right?
I'm muslim, and there is ALOT of hate.
Example...Me and my mum,(she wears a Hijab) were at a french airport.
My bros were 15&16, and my younger sis was 8.
We were the only middle eastern ones, the only ones in the line that wore hijabs........and were the only ones searched.
I now HATE airports.
We also went to the us, and were searched there as well.
These happened 2 years ago, in a society that is supposed to be tolerant. And I know most people aren't like that, but it kinda hurts, to know some people hate you, look down on you because of your religion.

What exactly is the difference? I've been wondering for a while...is it simply theology or something else?
Oh... we have slightly different beliefs, and our roots are different. Catholics are the ones that have a pope and the Vatican and stuff, but Christians don't. Christians claim to be the original that all the others branched off from, but Catholics can trace the popes back to St. Peter, the first apostle. And there are minor differences, like how Catholics have saints and Christians don't, and also how when Catholics get baptized, only their heads get wet, but for Christians, their whole body gets dunked.
Okay, thanks. I'm a Christian, and lately I'd been hearing a lot about how Catholics and Christians were different, and since I'd just always categorized both Protestants and Catholics as "Christians," I was wondering what the difference was. I'll agree with you on the fact that the Roman Catholic church (capitalization?) was formed before any Protestant churches. I mean, there was definitely the early Christian church, but Catholicism was adopted as the official religion in Rome with Theodisus, which was before the Protestant Reformation, which if I understand correctly, began the whole denominations thing. Sorry, I think I'm rambling. :p Thanks for the clarification. :)
I don't mean to pry or anything Lia, but how do you feel about being baptized as a baby? Sorry, you don't have to answer that I was just wondering...>.<
Oh, and as far as baptism goes, some Protestant denominations don't baptize by submersion. Obviously, Baptists do, but Methodists and Presbyterians don't (I believe). :)
Sierra wrote: "I don't mean to pry or anything Lia, but how do you feel about being baptized as a baby? Sorry, you don't have to answer that I was just wondering...>.<"I know this question wasn't meant for me, but I was baptized at a few months after I was born too, and I used to go to a Catholic School. The thing is, some people might find it unfair, because the children don't seem to have a ;choice' in their faith that way, but as they grow up, they can choose. I have some classmates who never actually got to know the Church that well, and I have other friends whoa re really devoted. It still depends on whether the person wants to believe or not. The parents can only introduce them to the faith. Getting baptized means nothing if the person who is baptized doesn't want to be part of the Church.

That's how I feel too. I think that people shouldn't be baptized until they are old enough to make a decision. Thanks for answering :) Other people's religion and beliefs just fascinate me :D
(I'm kind of butting into this conversation...sorry about that!)
I wasn't BAPTIZED as a baby. I was dedicated when I was a baby (about the age that babies are baptized) and baptized when I was 12. I was glad that it happened that way because it was my decision to make a profession of faith and be baptized, and even though I was really nervous about it, it is something I won't ever forget.

No, I haven't been baptized yet. That's just how I feel. I think that baptism is a very serious and meaningful thing and shouldn't happen until a person is ready to dedicate themselves to what it stands for. :)

I have a concern, and I think that this is the appropriate place to put it. I see people complain about other people referencing their religion and "cramming it down their throat" on debate topics a lot, so hear me out on this: I don't know about others, but often, especially in debates, my religion affects my opinion. I'm not trying to "cram it down anyone's throat" or anything. However, when asked about my opinion, I'm going to give it to you, and I will often reference the Christian faith as it is mine and, as I stated above, affects my opinions on certain topics. These are simply my opinions and I don't intend to make it appear as if I'm trying to convert anyone.
Sorry for the rant, but I think it needed to be said. :)
