I watched the movie first with leonardo DiCaprio, then read the book because I wanted to find out more about Frank Abagnale and read his words about those few years he was on the run and writing bad checks, and being an imposter. This night I saw the musical play about Frank Abagnale jr.{pretty good too} anyone else read the book. and watched the movie. and maybe the play?

I did, i actually tried so hard to finish the book first only after watch the movie, both were amazing and enjoyable.

I think this was one of the times I saw the movie first and then read the book.even though he was breaking the law in so many ways, i was still amazed at this brilliant man.

brilliant watch and read. I guess it is one of the few movies, which could do justice o the book.

I have seen all three. In addition, my niece is a performer in the musical! A great musical, by the way.

cool about your niece! we saw the play in Michigan a couple weeks ago. Is she in the touring Play right now? maybe we even saw the one she is in.it was a fun play to see.

Yes, she is in the touring company. She plays the prostitute, and is a backup dancer and singer. We saw the play in LA and had dinner with the fellow who played the FBI agent (hanratty?). A very charming fellow, not at all how I would imagine a "star" to be.

I was reading the book while I watched the movie, listened to the soundtrack, and saw the touring Broadway musical. Quite an immersion! An amazing story about an amazing young man--a story where truth truly is stranger than fiction.

I found the book and movie about Frank Abagnale fascinating. the play came to our nearby town so glad I had the chance to see that too.

Somehow I think I should've read the book first... because after seeing movie and musical I can't really sympathize with the book!Frank anymore (which is sad because he's the real one after all).

I remember seeing the "real" Frank on a talk show. the book had been written in 1980. Frank himself said he was not too happy with the book he wrote because he felt it came off as "bragging" how he did it type of book. this was when the movie came out. he admitted that now that he was older he would have written the book different.

I've come into this thread late as I've just joined Goodreads, but the story hit me hard and I'd like to tell that I've always had a fascination for intelligent people 'gone bad'. I guess it's because i'd too go bad, if I was that intelligent and capable of pulling it off.

I read the book first and loved the movie. D'Caprio and Hanks. Can't get better.

I saw the movie a while ago and just finished the book last month. I liked the book so much more because it got inside Frank's head and showed how one decision led to another. I also got a better sense for how he felt when he was running his scams.

Read the book and then saw the movie. I agree... one of the few movies that did justice to the book(or maybe I felt so because it was D'Caprio on screen :p). The book just goes to show that how many things we take for granted in our day to day lives and it was this vulnerability that Frank took advantage of. Havent seen the play... but musical is just not my thing.
