Iesha, your dragon-scorpion idea sounds fascinating, totally original, yet plausible. Are you writing a novel based on this?
I didnt see this topic here! Wow~!

Oh my goodness, I thought everyone in the group was reading the Dragon Spire thread! In as few words as possible, I'll explain them: the space dragons are a mythos I created for my shared universe, The Society On Da Run. The characteristics of. Space dragon is: 1) they are part of an intergalactic empire of diverse dragons (Wyrms, Wyverns, six limbers, shapeshifters, etc) that come from another planet and conquer other worlds for the sake of expanding. They come in many sizes, can breathe fire or ice or water or explosive rockets, are capable of sapience, pilot and build spaceships and are technologically advanced. Check these threads for more detailed info: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_... and http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...
If you have Dragons and Cicadas, you can read up about them.

His name is Tiny because he's so tiny~! He is an Annundi dragon (like Luccini) so he is metallic and organic (think robot on outside, organic body inside)

I'm new to the group, so thanks for the explanation. Very imaginative world building.

L'Poni, I agree with the others. Very imaginative work there. :)

My dragons are born looking like dragons but acquire the ability to shapeshift as they grow. They can become anything. However, this ability varies according to the job they hold in society.
Observers study and catalog aspects of the universe. They shapeshift the best. Investigators make sure Observers follow the rules/limits placed on them. They can shapeshift but have fewer opportunities to use it, and less need. Engravers, Clerks, and Librarians oversee the archiving of knowledge, while the whole of society is overseen by a group of dragons known as the Grand Aerie. They rarely, if ever, shapeshift.
Because Observers spend a lot of time in an alternate form, they have a tendency to sympathize with their chosen study. It can take a while sometimes to shake off that feeling. Those who don't can lose their objectivity (a vital part of Observing) and, at best, have to find another job. At worst, a dragon could find themselves magically paralyzed eternally.
They can fly, but are forbidden from traveling between worlds outside of their spheres, which act like doors. Spheres also allow communication with other dragons and can allow access to information the dragons store in their incredibly large library. However, most dragons prefer returning to their world for extensive information gathering. They find it refreshing and calming.
When they were first created they were highly competitive and more than willing to meddle with other species, including conducting experiments on them. Now, they do everything in their power to be peaceful and hands-off. Still, remnants of that initial nature remain.
Like I said, not as creative as what I've read here, but I love them. <3

More, huh? Let's see. (Please bear in mind that this is the world for a contemporary fantasy/sweet paranormal romance, so all the worldbuilding I've done so far is geared toward that.)
In the story I wrote, there are three worlds--or scapes, as the dragons call them--that get the focus. (Dragon is a language that can't be fully represented by human language systems, so I'm using translations of the names they give things.) The Dayscape is the world where the dragons live. It's full of magic (in my story, the energy that created the universe). The Nightscape is our world and doesn't have nearly as much magic in it. The Gloaming is "in-between" when it comes to magic, and is where dragonchildren are sent.
Dragonchildren are the result of a human and a dragon mating, also called the First Mistake. That's a story all unto itself, but the summary is that an Observer lost his objectivity and fell in love with a human woman. They created a family, and by the time the dragons discovered what had happened, in order to stay as close to non-interference as possible, they designated The Gloaming as a place for the dragonchildren they could find, segregating them instead of killing them, which is what some of the dragons secretly felt should be done since this area of study had become contaminated.
However, dragonblood turned out to be rather unpredictable in humans and sometimes skipped generations. So, they never fully contained the damage. They could only watch as the initial contamination thinned, becoming weaker with each generation, while trying to make sure that that mistake was never repeated.
If anyone wants to read the story I wrote with my dragons, I can send them a free pdf. Just let me know. :)

(I prefer email, but if you don't want to put your address in this thread, you can message it to me here on GR, or use the contact form on my blog.

It's a new series that got released on the 20th of Novemeber.
If you want Dragons, I've got plenty. Eleven species to be spesific and yes in this one the dragons can shift into humans.
The Rubicon: His name is Blake and the only one of his kind. He is pre-destined to be evil, but if he can get claim, meaning a rider can tame him, he can become good. Now it's not as easy as you think as Blake has ten abilities. He is an acid, fire, lightning and chlorine breather and he can do all other things that makes him deadly dangerous.
Then I have five chromatic dragons and five metallic dragons. The chromatic dragons lean slightly toward the evil type where the metallic tends to be good.
Chromatic: The Moon Bolt: A dragon that can breath lightning and can only see more of the future the older they get.
Snow Dragon - a very clever dragon that has the ability of turning anything to ice/snow/frost...you get the idea, but they are cowards and when the going gets tough they go poof.
Sun-blast: Fire breather and one of the big three (in size that is) They can also track gold and items of value buried deep in the ground. These dragons and their riders always ends up rolling in the money. They do have a thing for virgins.
Green-Vapor: A chlorine breather: They also have the ability to mess with human's memories. They can add things or erase important things, almost like persuasion.
Night-Villain: Black as night and they are acid breathers. They are really evil but not impossible to claim/tame.
Metallic dragons:
Fin-tail. Which is really good, and champion against evil. They don't have an ability but their exterior is rock hard and difficult to kill. They are kind, love humans and like to be where they are needed. Their tales carry tiny spears which they can attack someone with (like porcupines)
Swallow-Annex: Can heal broken bones and most injuries. The older they get the more they can heal and the better they are. Fastest flyer of all the dragons.
Fire-tail: Fire breather; speak a lot, very playful dragon.
Copper-horn: Dragon with also no ability but love telling riddles, jokes, play pranks etc.
Crown-tail: These dragons love theories, they are very smart and usually will ponder on things for weeks to come. They love to unravel riddles etc. A really good dragon to have on your side in every situation.

I'm no J.K. Rowling, I wish. hehe.
It starts with a girl and her father being chased down interstate40. Dragons attack and this girl's, Elena, whole world change when she got saved by another dragon and taken to the Bermuda Triangle which is a hidden world known as Paegeia. It's a word filled with fantasy, dragons, shifters, magic and special humans with gifts known as Dragonians. Elena is destined to become a dragonian as she was born with the mark of the dragonians.
There she has to learn everything about her new world and how to cope. Still plenty happens, dragons prank her all sorts of things.
Then she got her riddle like foretelling. You have to rad the book to understand what they are all about. One she has absolutely no idea what it means. When the King of Lions sword got stolen, Elena felt that it is link to her foretelling and that she can get it back.
I got really good feedback already but I want more, and the best is to ask dragon lovers. You need to be one to appreciate this book, because there are so many species in it, and because of it being the first novel, people want all the answers, which they don't, but they will during all the other novels.

So, my dragons are pretty much the same, but they are not separated in races, but most like in a society. Yes, there are other dragon races, but they look pretty much the same as the others:
First, the high dragons. They are the rulers of all the dragons and live on a palace in a hidden place in the alps. They are as big as a three floor house when they are fully grown. Their wingspan is a little more than their size, including their tail. Their forms of defense and attack are mostly fire, combined with tooth and claw. They have more than two horns in their heads. That is the type of dragons my books refers to.
Then there are the low dragons. They are almost the same as the high dragons, but slightly smaller and their wingspan is less long. Their fire is also weaker, but still lethal. Their heads have only two horns.
And finally the shadow dragons. They are dragons that where changed somehow to darkness, meaning they where involved in dark magic of sorts. They can also he souls of dead dragons controlled by another being against their will. They are small, like the size of an elephant, all black except for their eyes, which are blue. They breath a cold numbing ice-fire, which is a tongue of fire but frozen. It only paralyze. They are dangerous because if the touch another dragon they can tear its scales like butter, and should they reach the gentle, soft skin behind the dragon will slowly begin to turn also into a shadow dragon. They a destroyed by dragon flame. If they touch a human, the human dies instantaneously, turning to dust. In my book those dragons make a fast appearance.

Yes, every book has similarities to other books when it comes to dragons. But you need that extra bit to make yours special. I like what you've done with your dragons.
Let me know if you need a beta reader.

They sound awesome! I can already think of little flash stories of them (if you ever do a tribute anthology, I'll definitely contribute). I really want to read your book, but I've shied away from novels. I have one that I am trying to read now but its so hard for me to finish a novel. Heck, I'll try my hardest to read yours anyway. How long is it?

I've always like the word Dragonian. I just wrote a poem not too long ago for a dragon RPG game where the dragon people are called Dragonians. It's called Dragon Divine Chronicles.
You made the right choice in coming here and asking us dragon lovers. I need to compile a message to send to everyone about the recent dragon books and authors joining so they can read the books. I will add your book to the shelf.

I went with a small indie publisher. The best way is to try your luck with one of them. Just make sure you read fantasy. Some of them don't. Google is the easiest way to find them.
Good luck.

I hope it makes sense now.
