Wynn (wynnga) | 1074 comments Penguin is re-releasing a trilogy from Lisa Gardner that was originally written under her pen name Alicia Scott . The trilogy was written in the 1990’s and it was called Maximillian's Children. Under each NEW book title is what I would say is a subtitle “A Family Secret’s Novel”.

I would think the new books should be listed as:

1) Maggie's Man: A Family Secrets Novel (Maximillian’s Children #1)
2) MacNamara's Woman: A Family Secrets Novel (Maximillian’s Children #2)

Would this be correct? Another librarian started a second series called “The Family Secrets Trilogy”.

What is the correct way the new books should be titled, should the series name stay the same, and is it necessary to name/create a second series?

Thanks.

Monique (kadiya) | 1097 comments I'm not saying what is the proper way to do it, but the way you have it written out suggests to me that the series is "A Family Secrets" and not "Maximillian's Children".

If they are the same books, they should not have two different series with 100% overlap. We usually use the most up-to-date name for a series, and in this case that appears to be Family Secrets. So I would make that the remaining series, and note in its description field that it has also been known as Maximillian’s Children.
