Donna R (goodreadscomuser_ainsco) The first book by Tad Williams published 1985 called "Tailchasers Song". Its a bestiary featuring a male cat as lead and also, as far as I've read, m'an (us), growlers (dogs), squeekers (mice) and Rikchikchik (squirrels).
Fritti is on a quest to enlist the aid of the royal family in finding lost members of the Folk - including his family and 'shecat'.
A gentle read, derring-do and monsters to battle aside. I decided to read it as I enjoy Tad and was interested to see how it all started for him. Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams

Donna R (goodreadscomuser_ainsco) An enjoyable read and great for younger readers too. Bestiary aspect sets it apart from later work by Williams. Three stars and a new favourite.
